Based on how flat the new characters and most of the returns have been in recent years, it's hard to care, but best of luck to them.

I was never a huge fan, but I'd say there's quite a bit. She has a sister on the canvas as well as the man she was in love with when she left (Adam).

Soaps aired five days a week and were looked down on (and still are), so there was never the care or effort to keep them. And some of the moments that were kept were destroyed in fires. They aren't usually that successful when repeated, although Dark Shadows did well, probably due to only being on about five years and being seen as more of a horror/fantasy show.

And of course, Republicans are ignoring this or claiming they are plants. Republicans always do whatever they want, even as Democrats are constantly worried on public opinion.

It's very sad to live in a world where Amazon will get more of Mr. Beast ripping off Squid Game but not this. Given the ever-shrinking economy and the industry supporting actors and creatives less and less, I do wonder if we will ever see any real support for soaps. I think the revival just made some very weird choices, maybe down to budget issues - it's never good when your show is run by guest characters and much of your cast is part-time - but even if it had been superb I don't think they would have had another year. I still think 15 minute soaps, with just a few cast and a few sets, may be the way to go.

To be honest I had long stopped watching B&B by that point, aside from clips here and there. I had forgotten about her being on there. You're right, she was well-liked.

Considering that the show had a noticeable ratings drop last year after making very minimal changes that amounted to canning FOFs, longer scenes and "a few characters think Sonny is bad...for a month," ABC may think people will move on even more with extra changes. Looking at the ratings year on year it seems GH actually went up in a key demo, so maybe ABC figures that's alright? I don't know. I wonder if that exec who wanted to have soulless GMA clones replace GH is still working at ABC.

GL had Reva on trial for Annie's miscarriage. AMC had a trial for Michael Cambias' murder. I generally find trials on soaps to be tedious and prone to self-parody, although they have their moments.

That makes me laugh. If anyone knew that it was Peggy. Reminds me of the story she told about making Lad, a Dog, and how they had cheap cars while the dog arrived in a limo.

I still think Diane dying by the hands of Carrie rather than the people viewers had seen her battling for years was a bit of a copout, but I also know I've only seen some scattered episodes so shouldn't assume. Likely so. I wonder if Long/Kobe always planned the story of Philip going bad (the first version, in 1984, not the second version in 1988). Unfortunately, between firing Tom O'Rourke and Chris Bernau quitting, there were no ramifications, beyond some brief angst for Beth. Then Grant quit so viewers had even less reason to care, attractive as John Bolger may have been.

They did confirm that Nate was dead, if that counts...still, the show could cull so many. What I notice most in these clips is how bleak the show is. I am not sure if there are any laughs to be found. I guess Mandy is meant to be the comic relief, but that's not very much.

I have a lot of respect for MVJ. I just don't have any trust in the other people involved. I hope it works out. You're right that the Sprina fans may watch. I was thinking more about the current GH viewers as I assume most of them quit last year, given Trina's treatment. The scene alone of her groveling to Joss and calling herself a bitch would have driven me away if I had mostly been invested in the character or her relationships.

I don't think GH in of itself is going to be a lot of competition as they likely have different audiences - GH caters to an older, conservative base who are likely disgusted by the idea of BtG - people like that fan who went on a racist rant against GH and Y&R last year. I think that show's biggest issues may just be the issues that have hurt daytime soaps so much, much-discussed - a social media world, many who don't have time now for soaps, or see them as old hat, etc. I wish they had tried a half-hour soap. But CBS asked for what they asked for and I hope they will stand by the show. I mean I am not sure those who want BtG to be a break from GH will get that full break given that so many who ran GH (into the ground) are working at BtG.

Yes. Outside of Lois I am not sure Rena ever found a role, although I like her work on Loving. Not sure if she left that show or if she was fired.

I find that plug-pulling murder mystery type story distasteful for what Search was meant to be even at that time. @dc11786 Appreciate your help as always, and the reminder to listen to those radio soaps. There's so much potential for 15 minute soaps, especially in these budget conscious days. I wonder if it was ever said why Len calls his mother Andrea. Maybe she didn't want to ever be called Mother or Mom. The second set of clips is marked as 3 hours and 20 minutes but ends around 2 hours and 20 minutes (and the last episode is the Christmas 1966 episode we've had online for years). Not complaining as I'm so grateful to get so much of this, just letting people know if they haven't dived in yet. I wonder if there's a bit of a time jump (only a slight one) in this third set or if it's just some overworked actors rotating out for a short period. The stories haven't really progressed, but we suddenly get Eunice, who wasn't seen or even mentioned in the first two blocs. We also see Emily with her other beau, Cal - I assume this is the professor she had a snotty phone call with earlier on...? Do we know who played him? (I haven't gotten to any other cast crawls yet). Every word out of Emily's mouth is so florid, I almost wonder if just one writer was assigned to her and no one else. Andrea says she's leaving in this set - I wonder if Gilmore comes back in the last few blocs or if this actually is her end. As time goes on in these episodes, I feel sorry for Patty as she tells not one, but two men that she doesn't want to be with them, and they insist to her that she is their girl whether she wants to be or not. It's interesting to see Ann Williams here without the more stylish coifs she often had. She looks younger. She also reminds me of Geena Davis in these, for some reason.

I still have no idea who most of those people are... I wonder if Silverman was just saying that to get out of a project that wasn't his idea.

I think any writer tends to deplore cliches in others but uses them in their own work. On GL, wasn't Carrie and Diane meeting up again in Springfield meant to be a coincidence? Unfortunately, thanks to miscasting Jackie and then all of those characters becoming so defined by Carrie for Marland's run (and Alan on redeeming himself, although I think that would have regressed even if Marland had stayed) the layers and power of the story were completely taken away.
