  1. I would also enjoy a diverse soap, but unfortunately, I don't think it will be in this country. BtG probably got in just under the wire.
  2. It's not a direct comparison as much as I would say a cautionary tale of seeing old soaps as too much of a part of the past rather than a gateway to the future. Realistically, none of those shows will return - even that AMC movie is a reach - but I think letting the idea stay out there to possibly happen is a good thing for the genre, and the old fans who may struggle to connect with what is being made today but haven't totally moved on yet.
  3. Moving this as my reply wouldn't be on topic for the BtG thread. @Contessa Donatella Now, about telling other fans that it is unlikely that classic soaps will be rebooted. Here I am not prepared to be criticized. For years I have told fans this is unlikely & I have given reasons. In like fashion I have explained why very successful classic soaps are so expensive to prepare them for streaming. IOW, so many episodes, etc. For example the only reason PC would be more accessible than GH is the total number of episodes involved. Back to telling fans "unlikely". These fans are stuck. The past is too enticing. Whether AW or GL or AMC & not only because of nostalgia they are just in love with what they had & it prevents them from moving on. So telling them it's not gonna happen, was the right thing! Now, I am talking quite a lot about a possible soap renaissance. And, I say, "A rising tide lifts all boats." That is because I see BTG as - maybe if we're lucky - a facilitator not a competitor. I don't agree - I think fans can still wish their old soaps would return and argue why they should and still support a current soap. If they say they will not watch a new soap or make snide remarks about a new show because they are angry over the old shows (as some soap 'journalists' did with Prospect Park's OLTL and AMC reboots) that's one thing and should be criticized. I think going too much into how it's never going to happen would take us not far off from where people like Moonves and Frons were in the late '00s and early '10s, acting like the soap genre as a whole was gone.
  4. I may be wrong, but I thought they killed him off in the early '00s as Ben inherited his money.
  5. @Vee Thompson was also trying to play "gotcha" with some of the "centrist" Democratic accounts who had criticized him by showing them his book. I'm sure everyone is in awe of a book 3 people will buy. Astead is giddily retweeting the time Trump tweeted him years ago, Conor Sen is fuming over a centrist account pointing out that no one gives a [!@#$%^&*] (beyond the same Beltway figures on Twitter) about the book or his claim that Democrats are in the same place Republicans were after the Iraq War failures, etc. These people did so much to get Trump back in office and will do anything to avoid talking about the atrocities they have created.
  6. Lisa did join ATWT the same year she left GL, but I don't know if Michael Tylo would have wanted to stay on and I know Lisa and Michael both said no one after Marland understood Quint and Nola. I am not sure how things went with Greg at GL, but I don't think he was ever known as easy to work with. The only time I remember GL mentioning Kyle again is when they killed him off in the early '00s.
  7. Sorry to hear he's gone. He was such a handsome man and a good actor too, even if Kenny was never a great part. I wish I had seen more of his work on Y&R.
  8. James Houghton Dead: ‘Knots Landing’ Star Was 75 Looks like he died last August. Kenny was never much of a part, but James was a beautiful man and did what he could with the role. Sorry to hear of his passing.
  9. If Leo isn't in the scene with Marlena, then yes, I would doubt Ron's involvement.
  10. They should have just had the John material in the promo. The rest looks very cheap (and as always, "hot" RSW has all the sex appeal of a turnip).
  11. As @Mitch64 has mentioned, Long/Kobe did seem to give the Reardons story, and in some ways may have improved the family (I find them tedious and find Tony borderline unwatchable in much of the Marland material), but then they all leave. I guess a lot is down to actor departures, other than Lee Lawson. Unfortunately, other than the Lewises, the replacements are extremely dull and hollow.
  12. I like that idea. I just wonder what they would treat as rural in today's soap world, or TV world. That and they are odes to violence and gore and some kind of cliche struggle of "real Americans." It's hard to know how they would translate to daytime, but if it gets another soap on the air I'd try it.
  13. If we should just start an obscure TV thread instead of placing some shows here, I will, but for now I thought some might be interested in having another show to talk about with ratings. An episode of Our Family Honor. The channel may upload more. A ton of soap names in this as well - Ray Liotta, Michael Woods (I'm guessing he may have left GL for this show), Sheree J. Wilson, Georgann Johnson.
  14. You're probably right, although I think the buzz is in part just because it's the first soap to premiere in over 25 years, and it would still have that buzz even if it were tied to an old show. I agree with those who think the most we will get of old soaps is that AMC movie if it ever actually happens, but a revival of Edge, or, as @Paul Raven said, a show going back to GL's original premise, I could also see working. The only way for daytime to survive is to get new viewers, but a majority of the viewers are always going to be those who were around in the past. If they could find a way to combine both worlds for some future soaps, I wish they could try. Of course, I know that's jumping the gun and just keeping this show on is what matters most for the time being.
  15. @Vee I do think GL and Edge (and maybe OLTL) are all shows that could be revived today due to the core of the show and how easily it still translates today (maybe even more because you don't have to worry as much about pleasing old fans), but in case anyone says no that won't happen, I'm aware. Still, it's always something I'd hope for.
  16. Some of the beauty shots from this era are glorious, if not for the intended reasons. I don't know if you've ever seen the one that is just Jessie talking with her puppet.
  17. Religious bigotry. And a path to overturn the ruling that stopped enforcing sodomy laws. I've seen some Republicans feign discomfort at this bill, but they will go along. They always do. And any gay Republicans will do the same.
  18. @Maxim Thanks for the clip. There's that Janet in Natalie... Such a huge waste of Nancy Addison. I don't know if you have watched the two 1973 GL episodes with her that recently appeared, but she's playing a very similar type of character. Nancy could play anything. Even...this. Dull David. I don't know if those photos are on here anymore but the best thing about him was his workout shots in Episodes Magazine.
  19. One of the finest actors we'll ever have. He could play anything. You never felt like he was phoning it in. Thank goodness for New Hollywood - without it we probably never would have had him. You'd never have anyone like him today. Night Moves is a devastating film, with Hackman playing a deeply depressed man, but never doing so in a showy way. Just watching him in bed, talking about his struggles, could be agonizing, because it felt so personal. Every moment of that performance stays with you. We all knew he was in his last years, but I don't think anyone imagined this. I just hope the passing was quick and painless.
  20. Apologies - I meant I read there's no real physical affection between them.
  21. I never understood what the urgency was in breaking her up with Rick and pairing them with other people. I know there have been claims of some issues between actors in that group, but I don't remember ever hearing of any between Krista and Michael. Was Long just trying to make sure her creations had more of a following, given that Rick and Mindy were both popular with viewers? It doesn't even seem like Kurt was on all that long. When I read synopses, it goes from their marriage to Mindy burning down the house to him dying in Venezuela in what seems like less than two years.
  22. Any time I see those moments on DAYS it comes across as dolls being thrown together (not helped by his obsession with men I find about as sexually appealing as Snuffy Smith [and I am not talking about Greg Rikaart]), but you're right, it is still more than GH. I haven't seen BtG yet - I've heard they have nothing for the gay characters but I am not judging them on that, considering where this country is headed. Lois does deserve a new man. I just find most of the new male characters in that age range to be such dullards. It seemed like whatever she tried doing in primetime dimmed her spark. I guess that's why Frank brought her on, from friendship, as it doesn't seem to be down to writing her based on who Brook Lyn used to be. I'm half-surprised they didn't have them actually have sex around the time of Carly lying that they were hooking up in Tracy's room or wherever the alibi was.
  23. Rena does project as younger than Setton, even when she isn't trying to be young. She also dresses younger. If they did pair Lois with anyone it would just be filler, but if Rena is willing to stay around, I wish they'd try. Maybe they could bring Justus back from the dead and pair them up.
  24. Thanks. I thought it was somewhere after her relationship with Jax. I may be thinking of some later moment with them. That makes sense as a story idea for Sonny and Gio. The show has such a confused relationship with the mob, because you will still have a few characters who protest the mob for brief story purposes, but never in a manner that feels like a point being made - Jagger hated Sonny but he was meant to be a prick, Sasha doesn't want to be tied to the mob but she is fine with Jason. Yet the mob is still inescapable because it's just blended much more into the canvas than in the days where characters like Edward or Alexis were putting them on blast. So I don't think you could have a story today like Sonny grooming Stone and the different reactions those around him had...but I think there are scraps which can be found if the show tries, even as they will never actually be against Sonny. I do remember when Dante was meant to be more sexual. Given Sam's sexier pairings in the '00s it's too bad they never did more with a more erotic element between them. I guess it's just not a part of GH anymore. Or any soap, frankly, not only in the US, but internationally. As we're in an era where gen Z is asking to bring back the Hays Code, I don't see that improving.
  25. I don't want Gio to be another Jason or to be all about the mob life, but when his grandfather is the mobster of all mobsters in GH-ville and his grandmother is a lifelong friend of mobsters, I think it's an inevitable part of his story to explore. He will also be dating a girl whose mother and grandmother are close friends with mobsters. I think it would be some good conflict for Dante as he would finally have to face a choice he mostly avoids, beyond some moments of doubt - he could forgive Sonny for almost killing him, but knowing his son could be killed at any time (even if he swore off mob life) may be another story. Of course all will be fine soon enough, because it's Sonny, everyone loves Sonny in the end, but it's one of the only beats I can see being played with giving Dante an adult son. I don't think Dante and Brook Lyn will be too desexualized by this reveal - I think Sonny and Carly were [!@#$%^&*] in limos when Morgan and Michael were older than Gio is now (although my memory of their grotty relationship isn't the best) - but I do think that Setton being so Pureflix adds a more somber atmosphere that the story didn't need.
