  1. There are some Neighbours fans at Television Without Pity. If you made some general comments about the show and then mentioned the poll, some might vote. They hate the Kennedys so they might say they prefer teens to the Kennedys, but some might vote for the 20/30/40 group.
  2. I voted. (for 40+)
  3. So the promo was more interesting than the show? I had to laugh at Anthony Abbaddo kicking some guy, another woman seductively licking an ice cream cone, and the close-up on a tight tush in a red teddy. It reminded me of Robin Mattson around this time saying she was offended when the script called for a closeup of her butt in a teddy, along with some sort of joke or something she found distasteful. I wonder if someone at NBC Daytime had a fetish.
  4. I had seen that episode on archive some time back but hadn't connected it to this story until you pointed it out to me. I watched again. Thanks! This was a good episode, another example of why 15 minute soaps can pack a punch. I wish that someone would invest in them again (I'm not talking about websoaps, I mean shows with more of a profile too). Whatever happened to Judith and Carol? You'd think the show might have brought an adult Carol back when Paul returned, to help give more story.
  5. Do they take votes of people not in the UK or Australia?
  6. It's a shame that all the meddling seemed to kill the show so quickly, after it had built up success. I'd love to see more of the show, as the characters and setup seem fascinating, and I'd also like to see some of the writing of Sam Hall's that got him fired. Irna Phillips had so many similar themes yet her shows also seem to be very different from each other.
  7. Thanks for reading them. Unlike other soaps, we know quite a bit about GL of the 50s, so I appreciate you still reading those even though you probably know all those stories. I have been meaning to watch more of 80s GL while I have a chance. I've been trying to get through ATWT and that's been taking quite a while.
  8. Irna Phillips would be proud. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s13/hollyoaks/news/a303797/public-jury-for-hollyoaks-rape-trial.html
  9. From the April 1952 Radio TV Mirror's Daytime Diary section. This just covers the radio show obviously. As Althea Dennis and her daughter appear to be embarking on a promising new life, the rest of the Dennis family also faces a situation that may be more trying - and more rewarding - than any they have yet faced. It is a time of trial for a whole township, and Reverend Richard Dennis at last shows the true strength and quality of his character which in the past has often appeared so deceptively gentle. What effect will all this have on his youngest daughter, Patty?
  10. From the April 1952 Radio TV Mirror Daytime's Diary. In spite of the warnings of her stepmother, Meta Roberts, Kathy Grant allows moral cowardice and stubbornness to keep her from revealing to her young husband, Dr. Dick Grant, that the child she is carrying is the result of her brief secret marriage to Bob Lang. Only when Kathy is accused of planning Bob's death does Dick learn the truth - from the police. Will he ever feel the same toward Kathy?
  11. Thanks. That sounds interesting. So they advertised a wedding and never had one. I wonder how that went down. Do you think Cat Hickland was good in the dual role? Did she ever have scenes where both characters interacted?
  12. I'm glad that people enjoy them. That was a piece on unforgettable characters in SOD's 10 year history. It's kind of funny seeing the character names first, as it leaves the impression Myrna and Clarissa were building sand castles together. Who was shot at their wedding?
  13. From the November 19, 1985 Digest.
  14. From the October 1979 Daytime TV.
  15. I think they will just have her on long enough to die, and they may have Janine inherit her money, with a lot of speculation about whether Janine killed her. My guess anyway. When Frank died, Diane mentioned at his funeral that she now had a female partner.
  16. Wisconsin's governor says he will call the National Guard out on unions if they don't go along with his plans. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-11/wisconsin-gov-says-he-won-t-negotiate-with-unions.html

  19. From the October 1955 Radio TV Mirror. Daytime Diary, a synopsis of each soap. I'm not sure how far behind this was. Editor Max Canfield has had one unhappy experience in romance. Is he heading for another as he learns the truth about Lydia Harrick, the charming sister-in-law of the temperamental, selfish architect whom Revered Dennis hired to build the Youth Center? Has Don Harrick a hold over Lydia more significant than his own demanding nature? How will Grayling Dennis and his bride Sandra be involved in Max's love affair?
  20. From the October 1955 Radio TV Mirror. Daytime Diary, a synopsis of each soap. I'm not sure how far behind this was. The meeting between Kathy Lang and Marie Wallace leaves each of them wistfully certain that the other is the woman in Dr. Dick Grant's life. Are they both wrong? Meanwhile, Kathy's friend Bertha Bauer struggles through a serious problem as her recently widowed mother shows every intention of taking over her daughter's life and home. Will Bill permit it? How will young Michael react?
  21. From the October 1955 Radio TV Mirror. Daytime Diary, a synopsis of each soap. I'm not sure how far behind this was. Vanessa Raven knows she is taking a chance when she makes a foster-home for the unfortunate little daughter of the deranged Judith Lodge, Paul Raven's first wife. But the child's need - and Van's need for a child - override caution, and Van devotes herself to helping little Carol despite the knowledge that Judith will never allow this opportunity to pass. Can Judith reassert a claim to Carol - a child she doesn't want?
  22. From the October 1955 Radio TV Mirror. Daytime Diary, a synopsis of each soap. I'm not sure how far behind this was. Young Melanie Pritchard has been very frank about the reason for her trip to Henderson - her desire to catch a rich husband. Is her frankness a clever way of disarming her victims? Is Marge Bergman right when she finds herself unable to take Melanie to her heart? And what about Nathan Walsh, who seemed like Melanie's logical quarry - until certain unexpected changes took place in the Bergman household?
  23. From the October 1955 Radio TV Mirror. Daytime Diary, a synopsis of each soap. I'm not sure how far behind this was. Defeated in her last vicious effort to ruin Peter, Pauline Tyrell knows a momentary pang of real remorse. Will her evidently sincere apology deceive Peter into trusting her, and treating her once more as the sister of his dead wife and the loving aunt of his children? Or will his need to protect Jane Edwards make him as cautious as he should be in dealing with Pauline? And what of Jane's husband, no longer missing?
