AOL Video: P&G Soap Channel

YES! YES! YES! YES!

I've never seen ANOTHER WORLD or THE EDGE OF NIGHT. I'm soooo excited!

And there better be some DAMN GOOD episodes of ATWT.

I wonder if they'll show "Best of" episodes or actually begin from a certain year and play them in order.

Man, now I need AOL. :( We only get 4 hours a week to use it, but I think I'd be willing to pay for it just to watch this channel.

I love the P&G soaps so much. They're definitely the Crème de la Crème of soap operas...I don't care what anyone says. They're a part of my childhood. Soaps would never have been what they are without P&G. I can't wait to see AW. I miss that show so much. :( And they better show classic eppies of GL and ATWT (from the 80s preferably) and not just new stuff. I never saw EoN and SfT, so I can't wait for those.

Also, I prefer the internet too. When I'm at school, I can't get a lot of stations, so I'd rather have a channel on the internet than on cable. Smart move P&G!! The internet is the way to go nowadays.

I'm pretty sure it's just for AOL viewers. Still, my computer shows videos like crap so I hate watching them on mine. I wish they'd just go ahead and release some of the soaps on DVD.

This is a good step forward, but DVD releases are what they need to do. They give us crappy mugs and tshirts, but we want DVDs. Even the most obscure tv shows are on DVD so it's time they get the picture with soaps.

I'm more than willing to shell out cash to see this.

I hope they charge per channel, not per download.

$9.99 for ALL P&G soaps seems reasonable to me (old SoapCity price).

It would suck if one had to pay 9.99 for ATWT, ANOTHER 9.99 for TEON, ANOTHER 9.99 for AW....

I'd totally spend my money on an official feature like this. I hope they will charge like a monthly fee. There's nothing like HQ Video from the source itself. I'm in!!

It says:

Available for free to anyone on the Web at http://www.aolvideo.com, the new AOL Video is an all-in-one, high-quality entertainment destination to find, watch and share millions of the best videos across the Web.

But does that mean only AOL users? Because that would suck. I'd be willing to pay a monthly charge for the channel, but I don't want to install AOL on my computer. I don't know how much that costs either. If it's like 20$ a month, I would consider just getting AOL. Yes, that's how much I love the PGP soaps.

EDIT:

My roommate has AOL, so I guess I could use hers. But my laptop shows videos really nicely.

I think this will be available to anyone on the web a la You Tub or Google Video, not just AOL users.

It says "open to anyone." It does sound like it will be, in part, like youtube, since users can upload vids, too.

That looks like one heck of a catalog they are going to have! For EON alone, I am thrilled, lol. I have missed that show since they took it off the air. Sky, Raven, Gavin, Miles, Derek, oh my. And I haven't been able to tape AW off SN since they reduced it to just the afternoon showing so I'm thrilled about that, too. I wonder at what point in these shows AOL will start off. I have watched 2 or 3 of the vintage comedy episodes AOL has of "Chico and the Man" and "Alice."

Another great thing about having this kind of thing on the internet is that you can watch something at your convenience and not have to be worried that it's on at a time when you can't see it, tape it, etc. Also great for people who may not have SN or cable tv, period.

Ooooh, I'm so excited! :D

Hmmm, that's a good question. I guess we'll find out soon. I've noticed that with the In2TV, the episodes that I saw a couple of months ago, the pilots of the sitcoms I mentioned, don't appear on the listing anymore. I don't know, maybe they reside somewhere else, in an archive, or got moved off but I didn't see them in the main screen anymore. They do seem to be going in order, but in limited amounts of eppys and continue to add more. I wonder if the new channels will work the same way. Still....as others have said, it's better than nothing at all!

That'd be cool. Yeah, I hope they turn up on YouTube or some place where I can watch them. I think I could use my school's computer to view them anyway, so I'm looking forward to that, since I can always find an open computer available. I have an AOL account, but it's not installed on my computer. Maybe they could do something where you can download them onto your iPods or something. I know they mentioned cell phones, which is a good idea too.

AOL already has other channels and I haven't seen people able to copy the videos to put on YouTube. I'm pretty sure it's just streamin videos. I also don't think non-AOL users can see them.

One of you who don't have AOL should go to the website and see if you can watch any of the channels. Here's the link: http://television.aol.com/in2tv

I hope it's open to everyone and the end credits will be included because I'm all about the end credits. LOL :D

Yes, In2TV is open to anyone online. I don't use it, but at another board I frequent a ton of people use that site. Most of them don't have AOL. Most of them did have to download the AOL media player, because without it playback is slow as heck even with a broadband or cable connection. The P&G Channel seems like it will be free and open to everyone just like In2TV.

Yeah, it worked on mine, but I had to download a bunch of crazy s**t to do it. Hopefully, it will be better on a less crappy computer (mine is riddled with viruses thanks to my sister).

I might try downloading them onto my cell phone. I think Cingular does something with AOL, so I'll pay for that.

instead of complaining about them doing this, why not be just happy that they are taking the steps to go forward with this bc the alternative is that we get nothing at all.

Well, I woke up pretty crabby this AM when I wrote that. As happy as I am that these shows are being seen again, I just WISHED PGP would go all out an do a channel.

If it is successful, maybe PGP will wise up and finally do a soap channel!

It is good news, don't get me wrong! I just wish there was a REAL channel, so these episodes can be properly archived for my library or someone else's.
