Yeah, it's free for everyone. I read an article about AOL in Time Magazine. It said they are transitioning from a subscriber-based company to an advertising-based company. They will also be allowing people to have free AOL Broadband with an outside DSL connection.

Give me some vintage VI from GL in crystal-clear clarity and I'll be in heaven! :)

THANKYA, JESUS! The chance to see Edge once again, even if it's reruns.

I don't believe there will be any classic ATWT or GL right now, only original content for those shows.

While I'm excited to see AW again and get to watch other P&G soaps, I kind of figured that they wouldn't show vintage GL and ATWT. Maybe they think that people will watch them and be like, "WTF happened??!?" That's how I feel, especially w/ GL...but ATWT too to a big extent.

They may show classic eppy's on days there is no orginal GL and ATWT. That is what they did at Soapcity when they show same day eppy's of ATWT, Y&R, and Days.

They have issues showing classic clips of the current shows. They have to get clearance from all the actors on those shows so if they were to ever show classic ATWT or GL it would probably the same few episodes we have seen already. Alina explained this on the P&G board, something about an AFTRA agreement.

So has anyone else tried it yet?

I did searches on Another World and Search For Tomorrow and nothing came up related to them. I searched for Edge of Night and what came up were the openings and closings from the WOST site, and the links were invalid.

I'm guessing there will be episodes at some point, since that's what the article says?

I didn't see the P&G soap channel on there either!

You have to pay to see the WOST themes now. That's why they come up invalid.

Yeah, I can understand about not showing them. It must be difficult w/ soaps to get all the actors' permission and such. I noticed that when CBS used to do the "vintage soaps" during the holidays that they'd only show episodes that included actors that (for the most part) were still on the show. At first, I had thought that they did it so that viewers wouldn't be as confused, but now it could have been for legal reasons instead.

I wonder if it's the same as it is w/ shows in syndication, where the actors get royalities. It must be if they're getting paid from ads.

July 31, 2006, AOL, a leader in live and on-demand entertainment video programming and video search, today announced that it will preview a beta version of its new AOL Video portal later this week. Available for free to anyone on the Web at http://www.aolvideo.com, the new AOL Video is an all-in-one, high-quality entertainment destination to find, watch and share millions of the best videos across the Web.

Channels Programmed by Leading Partners:

* -- Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc. - The company that put the "soap" in soap operas presents the P&G Classic Soaps channel, featuring episodes from "Another World," "The Edge of Night," "Search for Tomorrow" and "Texas," including some available for the first time since they ended their successful runs. In addition, this channel offers original companion content for the contemporary classics "As The World Turns" and "Guiding Light."

Looks pretty crappy to me.

I haven't seen any good episodes of anything listed.

Yep. The set up looks like pure crap and I think our chain was yanked regarding a P&G soap chanel.

Umm...yeah, where is the P&G channel? Didn't realize that they weren't going to show episodes in succession; instead, they're going to be isolated episodes? That's going to be hard to pull off w/ soaps.

Since it's in beta previews, maybe the P & G channel is coming later? But then why not say so?

Anyway, I went to their beta survey and answered it (http://beta.aol.com/projects.php?project=a...&loc=survey). I mentioned the absence of the P & G channel that was mentioned in the press release. I also suggested that, if they are going to link to sites (like WOST) that require their own payment to access, then AOL Video needs to indicate that somehow...otherwise, there's gonna be a lot of disappointed and disgusted folks who won't understand why a bunch of links don't work. I also suggested adding season and episode numbers to their own listings (like from In2TV). I think I've seen them within AOL but didn't notice them on the website. I mentioned seeing limited amounts of shows (like maybe a season's worth) and what happens when they add new shows, do the previous shows disappear? And, I wrote all this in less than 500 characters, which I had to whittle it down to in several attempts because it doesn't say that until after you hit "Submit."
