BTG: April 2026 Discussion Thread

Martin ought to just lose his seat and move on and let that be the end of it. I know someone who is a political organizer and there is drama heaped upon drama and absurdity that has absolutely nothing to do with partisan issues. It's obvious that the writers/producers do not know how to capture that so they should just have Martin join his granddaddy within the ranks of former politicians. Most times the dialogue that they write for Brandon comes off as lacking in warmth and robotic anyway, so BTG should just let the "political dynasty" DIE (nasty?) with Martin.

On the day of the press conference, it was in the dialogue that Martin was a man of the people so Orphey Gene's made sense. (I don't remember how it was stated, but it was mentioned. The show was basically acknowledging that this was odd, and turning it around instead to make it something intentional from the characters.)

but they do tell political stories all the time without always accounting explicitly for who's in office at the time, or can eschew specific party details while exploring fictional narratives.

I do have high expectations for writing in soap operas, however I am not the person who suggested the absolute details of political reality should be included in the political storyline. That was someone else. Creative license is used in all writing genres (as you know). And using creative license does not equal low quality writing, in my opinion, as long as believability is maintained.

And when I notice bad writing on daytime, I don't just shrug it off and say "it's just a soap opera." I say -- "That was some really bad writing and they should have done better." I tend to do that for any soap opera that I care about. But again, I think you and I are in agreement about the political details issue.

Long post. If it bores you, just skip it, it's unimportant..

Every state has two U.S. senators. Each senator has a 6-year term. The terms are staggered by law, so that they are never up for election at the same time. One-third of all US senators are elected in 2024, one-third in 2026, and one third in 2028, etc, repeating.

Detailed explanation behind spoiler tag, so as to prevent this post from taking up too much space.

(examples behind this spoiler tag)

Within a single state, the elections would be:
First election year: Elect US Senator position #1.
Two years later: Elect US Senator position #2.
Two years after that: no election.
Two years after that: Elect US Senator position #1.
Two years after that: Elect US Senator position #2.
Two years after that: no election.
Etc etc etc, repeating that cycle.

Another state might be
1st year none,
Two years later, position #1.
Two years after that, position #2

Another state would be
1st year, position #2
Two years later, none,
Two years after that, position #1.

The only exception is if a senator dies or resigns, and then there's an appointment by the governor to temporarily fill the vacancy, and then there's a public election to fill the spot. (There are variations on this procedure, slightly different procedures in different states). But still, the "replacement senator" only fills out the ORIGINAL term of the senator who left. Even if there's only one year left in the term, that's all they serve. The regular election is always held on the longstanding date for regular elections for that position, so the state maintains the ongoing rotation of senatorial elections for that state.

Here's my point.

I have seen at least one primetime drama that depicted a senatorial election on the OFF year. This was the regular main election, and not a special one. What I mean is, if that state had this rotation:
2016, position #1.
2018, position #2.
2020, none
The show was written that that state had the election in 2020 fictionally and the characters were running to be elected then. Even though 2020 didn't have a US Senate election in that state.
I don't remember what state it was, or what show it was, or what year it was --- but the premise was the state was doing the fictional election on the year when that state had none in real life.

* in real life *, Maryland has US Senate elections in
2022-yes, 2024-yes, 2026-none,
2028-yes, 2030-yes, 2032-none.

* in real life *, Virginia has US Senate elections in
2018-yes, 2020-yes, 2022-none,
2024-yes, 2026-yes, 2028-none,
2030-yes.

For fictional drama purposes, I think it would work better if Martin were running in 2028 for Senator from Virginia; so there's no real-life campaign playing out at the same time.

We know that fictional Fairmont Crest is in the D.C. area, and is similar to real-life wealthy Black communities in Maryland. Are there any wealthy Black communities in Virginia?

BTG has been renewed "through at least the 2027-2028 television season". Is that through Sept 2028? or through Dec. 2028? (I'm not clear if they will keep BTG on a January-December season model, or if they'll eventually convert over to the standard autumn-to-autumn model.)
Questions:
A) Will Martin actually run for Senate, or will the Kenny's brother secret derail his goal?
and
B) Will BTG be on the air in November 2028 when the election is held?

WTF would Ren stab Grayson like that? With him severly injured or god forbid dies, thats going to F up the money as he's the primary contract at the hospital thats actually has access to and can exchange the plasma. Why not just beat him up like Jacob to teach a lesson?

Why did Jacob call Smitty and not cop? Still makes no sense he has no official that he is working with.

How did Grayson get to Ashley's apartment in his condition? He didnt drive and theres no way he got in a car like that. He would he even leave the hospital grounds with no one noticing he was injured

Bottom line - why give a character an occupation if you are not going to explore it in some way?

Martin could have been in another occupation in the sense that him as a politician hasn't really affected the story. The 'secret' was something anyone with some prominence could have not wanted exposed.

Like Derek the fireman-why? As it turns out they dropped that anyway and he's now at the phantom free clinic.

Vanessa the realtor now is more interested in Joey's businesses. Maybe she should have just been a bored, frustrated housewife. That would have given her more motivation to get involved with Joey than being super successful already in a legit business.

she being a realtor is what even got her involved with Joey and I feel they've used this profession effectively over the past year. She is the go to person when it comes to not only finding homes for people to live, but also building space as was the case with Leslie's clinic. I dont know what exploring you need them to do with her in this space for it to work

Point taken. I do remember now Joey and Vanessa discussing property when they first met. She supposedly has a team working under her, but she seems to have plenty of time to hang around the casino and various eateries.

TBF, Martin has/had TWO staffpeople. The FOINE man at the start of the show. And now he has the lady.

Chelesa and Kat continue to be the most consistent when it comes to seeing a character at their job.
