Thanks!  That isn't who I was thinking of, but I know who it was reminding me of:  John Loprieno.  I know he's Cord on OLTL, but I was thinking more of Star Trek Voyager's "Year of Hell" that he was in. When Johnny was in the plane, with that lighting, really reminded me of John.

A mention of Anna on Days in the wedding outfit thread reminded me of a long-standing grudge I have against Margaret dePriest and I wondered whether she is the only headwriter who resorted to this over and over again: taking (or creating) a character who has never been onscreen and has always been dead when mentioned in the story, and having it suddenly turn out that that character is alive and ready to create conflict.

On Another World she did this 3 times in 1986-1987:

Reginald Love (previously called Brandon) -- Donna, Peter, and Nicole's father. He had faked his death and run away to Paraguay for at least 15 years.

Mary McKinnon (previously called Teresa) -- MJ, Kathleen, Ben, and Cheryl's mother. Reginald had faked her death and given her or taken advantage of her amnesia to take her to Paraguay with him.

John Hudson (previously never acknowledged) -- Michael Hudson's brother. Presumed dead in Vietnam.

There was also the character of Brittany Reynolds Peterson on AW created in 1985 in the absence of any credited headwriter, so I guess I have to admit that Depriest is only 75% guilty here.

However I believe Depriest introduced both Anna on Days and Eric Kane on AMC using the same technique. Are there any other similar back-from-the-dead characters, and if so which HW created them?

I do not count cases where previously alive onscreen characters are brought back from the dead. That is a different thing driven by different backstage issues.

GL's Buzz

Thanks! It's not completely clear to me who the HW on GL would have been when Buzz first appeared. Was it Stephen Demorest?

Nancy Curlee and Demorest, I think.

OLTL/Y&R/B&B/PSSNS: Andrea Evans tribute channel on youtube launched May 2025.

clips from all her soaps, interviews, Emmys, etc

Michael Fairman says it was launched by her family and he typed up description of the contents here:
https://michaelfairmantv.com/andrea-evans-tribute-you-tube-channel-launched/2025/08/13/

Apparently they are continuing to add more material to the channel

https://www.youtube.com/@AndreaEvansTribute

Edit to add:  Fairman says: "At launch, there are currently over 57 videos on the channel, and there should be well over 100 more to be added in the future."

This isn't related to a US soap but I thought it was interesting: https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/hollyoaks/a65795910/brookside-return-hollyoaks/

To celebrate it's 30th anniversary, Hollyoaks is doing a special crossover episode with it's long cancelled sister soap Brookside. Brookside ran from 1982-2003 and basically paved the way for Hollyoaks. I believe they've had crossovers in the past as well.

I thought that was a clever way to celebrate their anniversary and something that was truly surprising. I'd love to see a US soap attempt something like this. We've seen crossovers and some elements similar like Delia in Ryan's Bar on GH but it sounds like they're actually going to bring back some of the popular Brookside characters and let us into that world at least for one episode. They've also gotten permission to film at the old neighborhood used for Brookside back in the day which I'm sure will be exciting for fans of that show.
