Good for them! I'm not begrudging their children the work - Labine's children worked well with her on her shows. This just reminds me, though, of what was discussed a number of years ago by lifers in the business - these jobs, especially now in the streaming era of the WGA strike full of short-term 'mini rooms', are often ironically some of the most secure and lucrative writing positions in the field. They are carefully guarded and at times jealously protected by lifers who go from show to show, and provide for each other or for their families. Breaking in is very difficult because of that. Ten years ago I would never have thought we'd reach a point where writing for daytime is a safe harbor for the professional writer.

I’m seriously curious what happened here, even though we can assume, but it does strike me as particularly bad optics in today’s climate unless it’s merely coincidental and Davis/Giddens/Brown all booked other projects, or a combo of booking other gigs and bad fits for the show, which is indeed possible. But it is curious.

SONJA ALARR, WIFE OF "DAYS" PRODUCER/DIRECTOR ALBERT ALARR, WRITES TODAY'S EPISODE...

Sonja Alarr, the wife of long-time "Days" producer/director Albert Alarr, was listed as the script writer of today's "Days" episode. She also wrote a few "Days" episodes in 2018.

I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned yet but GH stopped showing fill writing credits this week. Just the HW and associate HW. Does this mean they’re down to the final breakdowns and scabs are writing the scripts?

I wonder if Y&R is now at scripts that were completed by the scriptwriters before the strike but had not yet been edited by Boyd.

Or maybe JG took over script editing duties in addition to EP, HW and breakdowns...

Today Days tapes last of Ron's scripts before strike started. Ron said he wrote up to Xmas and this week Days taped up to 12/26 episode. I'm looking forward to hearing how Sheri Anderson retools the show with the January scripts.  The best thing about a protracted strike is that Ron can't turn in any material. I'm hoping Ken fires him once the strike is over and keeps Sheri as he did during 07-08 strike when he rehired Dena and kept her, firing Hogan Sheffer.

    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.

      look who’s at a party I’m at
    • Yes. We should absolutely move on from John/Drake's 40 year legacy on the show to see what Leo is going to do tomorrow.  Lol.  This can't be a serious post.

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!
