B&B Major Character Recast!

After the contractual hickups from 1999-2002 and Brad Bell's VERY harsh way to show Tylo the door in 2002 - by showing Taylor dead in a coffin for an entire episode - her guest stint in 2004 and the fulltime surprise return in 2005 with no more contract dispute afterwards made it seem like the fences had been mended. Then, Brad axed Taylor in 2013 (?) in a SUPER dumb move as Taylor was paired with Eric and one of the bright spots on the show. Tylo was bitter and only begrundingly returned in later years - until the babyswitch/shooting Bill year which gave her some meaty material and recurring stint which lasted almost 12 months. I thought that Tylo while very rusty at first did okay to very good (scenes with KKL) during her final stint. Too bad, for personal reasons or else Tylo no longer wants to come back to the show...

As for the recast: This will not work out well. PERIOD. Part of Taylor’s appeal was the long history and great chemistry with KKL. With Ridge already being recast it’s just not the same anymore if Taylor is also played by someone else. Especially for a group of characters like Brooke/Ridge/Taylor which has been onscreen for so long. Taylor is needed on the canvas but I don’t think that a recast - especially with Krista Allen who is sweet but unrecognizable - will do the trick.

My guess is that it will be  a TK as Ridge situation.
It will probably be a completely different version of the character simply also called "Taylor" and with the existing character relationship with the cast.
It may or may not work on its own terms - just not if we cling to the original version of the character but it might be fine if you stick to what's going on on the screen at this moment.

New pic of Krista Allen, via EW. The EW photo caption says "credit CBS" so maybe this how she'll look as Taylor? Errol's article says she starts taping on Oct 28. She probably came into the set early for publicity photos.  (Unless that's an old CBS pic from an appearance on a different show).

I can't believe folks still think this character has credibility left with Hunter's over stuffed frozen face.  Her scenes were painful and hugely embarrassing.  Bold humiliates itself daily with the 3 minute romances, the triangle from beneath Hell and now Eric has gifted his wife a black buck of her very own.  How in the sam hell is recasting Taylor destruction compared to the trash currently playing out?

Huge Hunter Tylo/Taylor fan...but I get the show must go on, especially if they reached out to Hunter and she declined. As with others I am okay with this casting choice. The younger age difference shouldn't be too hard to get past, although in scenes with Steffy she might pass more for her sister than her mother.

And will be curious to see if Krista and your man Thorsten have chemistry right?!

...Watch out Brooke.

I love HT, but she passed, so that's that.

As far as the age thing, please don't tell me that HT ever 'looked' her bio-age. Even with all her tweaks, she doesn't look 59.

Rena Sofer is 52 and Darin Brooks is 37. And without being mean, they don't even look 15 years apart and it's never been an issue.

    • Nick told Victoria that he and Sharon had married in England.  Victoria was shocked.  Then she realized he was kidding.  He confirmed it was a joke and they're platonic. I don't even know what to say about that.
    • It's funny you say that because part of the entertainment of the trials on the show are all the day players who come on as witnesses and jurors.  I'm certain it was like the Law and Order of its time. It employed so many New York actors, that if you look close enough, there's usually someone vaguely recognizable in the courtroom.
    • I will defend Dante.  People already suspect he may be a bit unstable from time to time (from his time as a prisoner).  And, he's taking care of other people's kids from time to time.  So, he has reason to be cautious with those in his care.
    • Josh continues to try and milk Abbott/Newman rivalry. First it was Billy/Victoria, then Kyle/Summer, then Noah/Allie (that worked out well) and now Kyle/Claire. Do we have any inkling when Billy Flynn will arrive and who he will play? I'm sure Cole's illness will mostly play offscreen. What's in store for Nick and Sharon? Is it time to put them back together? I can't see any other romantic options. Nick has no children on the canvas to play off, as Christian is never seen. Sharon has only Mariah onscreen.
    • I would appreciate (if they're not coming), for future scripts to refer to them by their iconic hairdos.  For example, if Hope needs to call Chelsea because Bo has Sepsis, I'd like Shawn-D to say, "My Mom called Chelsea (the one with the sassy short black hair) for an update." Also, new rule, if Melanie does return, she needs to dye her hair back to red.  I googled who she was five times during Victor's funeral.

    • Broderick, thank you for all of the info [I edited for space]. I am so grateful for everyone filling in the blanks for me. I suspected the Nora/Eliot scene was very important and it was setting something up but I didn't know what. Can't wait to see it play out. The two actors had such a great back and forth. I should have made the Paige/Patty Hearst connection. I thought Paige was in love with Brian from the first episode I watched but it seemed as if they were brother and sister. Steve kept being affectionate with her so I assumed he was the love interest. Then she was affectionate with someone else and well..she's a very busy woman. I can't wait to see Frances Fisher show up. (I'm trying to be vague because I don't know what would be a spoiler in this storyline) Now it makes sense why Draper would be upset. I didn't get the whole background of why he didn't go to NY. I'm a sucker for good acting, so I might still side with April and Margo, if the writers don't give Draper more to do besides yelling.  He had more chemistry with Logan, but I know that's not happening.  Something else I noticed: the show really takes care with even the smallest parts. The acting is superb. Too often, I noticed on older soaps they don't take care with the recurring or day players (Ryan's Hope was so bad with this that I couldn't make it through some episodes). It's only been six episodes, but so far, the casting department was spot on.
    • I thought Dante was overreacting.  Gio made some mistakes but he's young and he tried.  It's not like he dragged two 14 years to a party and made them get blackout drunk.  Dante can have the initial upset reaction, but to go on and on was a bit much.
    • His (adoptive) nieces.  Chelsea and Stephanie.  I think Abby was involved too, but I am not sure if they are related lol.
    • That was such a dark story. I never liked Swamp girl after that. And then the dating your cousin thing. I think wasn’t Max in a triangle with two of his cousins?
    • Thank you, @j swift.  I'm probably more sympathetic to Draper Scott than most audience members are -- even though I'm absolutely CRAZY about Ann Williams & her bizarre Margo Huntington character

The more I watch these episodes -- and I've watched several of them a zillion times, I'm ashamed to admit -- you realize there's a WHOLE lot of passive-aggressive hostility brewing inside Margo Huntington about Draper.  She wants to take April AWAY from him and recreate the childhood that she never got to experience with April, because of the adoption 25 years ago.  Draper has sense enough to realize how heartless and vindictive Margo really is about other people's lives and their feelings, but he bites his tongue rather than poison his wife's mind about how horrible her mother really is.  And I admire him for that.  He's a sweet boy.
