When I tell you that I am not surprised.

Wow, in addition to sexual harassment of this actress, he also referred to a Black actress as having a hot body but the head of a "Chia pet". Y&R ought to clean house. They've allowed misogyny to reign over that show for too many years. The entire daytime industry has.

The daytime drama genre has acutely suffered because of their misogyny and racism. No wonder daytime soaps are circling the drain.

I wish they'd start with with Steve Kent and the Sony peeps who have helped oversee a precipitous decline in quality.

No way Y&R/CBS/Sony would promote a junior creative. Best dip back into the same ole dried-up well! With our luck it'll be JFP or Mal. Heck, TPTB may even be too lazy for that and they'll just have Josh Griffiths pull double duty as EP/HW.

I was just thinking JFP or JG double-fisting. Either would be no bueno. JFP would at least give it direction. A sh!tty direction, but a direction nonetheless.

That Chia pet line is not surprising but still sickening. Alongside the potential sexual harassment and retribution. My god.

Indeed! And they don’t even have to be so explicit in their racist feelings. Watching the show is enough to show how they really feel.

I remember Abhi Sinha flagging Mal Young for abuse. Just seems like a very toxic set. I know Y&R has a rep. I agree Steve Kent needs to go too.

Speaking of Sony, Mike Richards is stepping down from Jeopardy (as new host but keeping his EP job).

Okay now I am seeing the news about Mike Richards stepping down, but how on earth was he ever allowed to name himself as co-host??! How ridiculous

Now the show is conducting a new search? Even if some are recalled, it looks like a full waste of time and energy for the candidates.

Aww, Abhi, had Y&R had an ounce of competence, that situation should easily been worked out. Abhi is a cute guy, seemed professional and has done good work on other shows. Y&R could have brought on Shenaz as Treasurywala as a big sister and struck gold. Instead, the same lackluster stories.

If Sony did more than talk about diversity, Y&R could have had an Asian family. It should now be clear, the reasons why these shows are such a mess.

While I would *love* to see this on ANY soap opera, I feel like it would give me whiplash reactions a-la the Rosales clan.

These are my guesses:

  1. Promote Josh Griffith to sole executive producer and head writer.
  2. Promote from within the company.
  3. Re-hire a former producer for a short-interim period of time, which will either become permanent or until another person can be found.

It wouldn't do any good to try without changing the executive and writing staff first. The current group have no idea how to write for diverse characters, or well, anyone at this point.

Of course not. Nor did I even expect things to change after Moonves got the boot, which is why I stopped watching a long time ago.

I have to be honest. I rarely watch CBS anymore.

Wasn't it Sony that had their files hacked by the North Koreans , only to uncover a barrage of offensive e-mail correspondence? That company has been an entire mess for ages now. This was so blatant though.

The shade--I must hand it to whomever runs their social media account.

    • There are the makings of good Emmy reels in these past couple of episodes, but the industry is still going to favor even the most mediocre stories and performances on the older soaps. And with the pressure from the government over race I can see the academy shutting out Beyond The Gates to avoid criticism from the administration and the far right media.
    • oh, definitely! It's too bad she hit the start of a rough transition period for the show. She shines, but she's stuck with bad story and some (if not exactly bad) not great co-stars.  Uh, who did Maureen O'Sullivan play? (Sigh--and only if I'd understood exactly who and how wonderful Teresa Wright was in '86) God, the summer of '84 was literally one event after another. Kim's outfit alone must've been worth a small fortune. And poor Maeve. She looks so uncomfortable. Rebecca Hollen told a story on Locher Room where Maeve dropped the f-bomb during the shooting of it. For some reason, she wasn't being listened to, and had just had enough. As a producer, I would've been holding my breath as my pregnant actress kept walking around strange and undoubtably uneven sets in that long skirt.
    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.  These episodes aren't consecutive, but if you ever have time, they are worth a watch. They are bits and pieces from January and April of 1979 - April in and out of prison, her past calling to her via her psychic powers (and the suicide of Miles' wife Denise, who had murder framing in mind). April 1979 has the end of Winter Austen (such a fantastic soap name).  I don't want to drop a ton of links but you can find playlists on Youtube.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
