Soap Moments You Wish You Could Have Witnessed

Since most soaps before 1975 were subject to wiping (or floods), a lot of soap history has been lost. Most of us only know about certain soap opera moments from recollections, industry magazines, and history books. What are some soap opera moments you didn't see, but you wish you had?

AMC:

Erica's abortion

Ruth's anti-war speech

Brooke arrives in Pine Valley on the back of Benny Sago's motorcycle

ATWT:

The first episode (I've read the script, but I'd love to see it!)

Lisa's first episode (I've read the script, but I'd love to see it!)

Lisa leaves Oakdale for OUR PRIVATE WORLD.

AW:

Rachel's debut on AW

AW's first hour-long episode

DAYS

Mickey learns Bill is the father of his son & Laura's son, Mike

GL:

The first TV episode of GL

Bert learns she has uterine cancer

LOVE OF LIFE

Tuddi Wiggins debuts as Meg

Christopher Reeve debuts as Ben "Beanie" Harper

OLTL

The first appearance of Nikki Smith

Carla Gray sees her mother, Sadie, for the first time in years!

SEARCH FOR TOMORROW

Jennifer crashes through the plate glass window

WHERE THE HEART IS

The final episode

Y&R

Katherine witnessing Jill and Phillip in the stables

Leslie Brooks calling Lorie Brooks a bitch (which I've heard is the first time that word was uttered on US TV)

Nick Reed tries to rape his daughter, Nikki

The death of Phillip Chancellor, III

OLTL- Nancy Pinkerton’s Dorian killing Victor Lord.

I also would love to see the original Victoria Lord, and Carla and Sadie reunited.

AW- just more of the original actors in the Rachel/Steve/Alice storyline.

DAYS- More of Susan Flannery as Laura, and Denise Alexander as Susan when she was scheming.

Y&R- Kay finding out Jill and Philip, and also driving him over a cliff.

GH- early Lesley stuff

AW: Robin Strasser as Rachel, as well as more of 1971-1976ish stuff.

ATWT: Anything Susan/Dan/Kim related, Sandy Wilson’s storylines, Irma’s infamous 1971-73 tenure

Days: Adelaide’s death, the reveal that Mike is Bill’s son, Marlena and Samantha story

Edge: Adam & Nicole’s yacht exploding on them.

GL: Kit Vested’s reign of terror(I’ve heard the audio) Roger & Peggy’s wedding and just in general a lot of 1970’s anything Roger related.

Y&R: The death of Phillip Chancellor II, anything that occurred in 1979(heard some audios and seen a few clips, need more lol), all of Vanessa’s death and Lorie’s trial.

Whichever soap opera it was (one of you fine folks will surely know) where the show was live and the line was "So-and-so cracked on the plane" but the actor accidentally said "crapped on the plane" and all the actors on set couldn't contain their laughter.

It was First Love!! One of the MANY short-lived NBC soaps of the 50s. Rosemary Prinz was part of the cast and said in an interview much later that the supposed scene never actually happened. It'd be nice to know for sure.

Wasn't there also a scene on DAYS (so obviously it's still out there if it happened) in the 70s where Doug asks Julie what she would like for breakfast, and SSH ad libbed "a big pink sausage."

EON - pretty much anything pre 1979.
TD - Buddy's accident while Nick & Althea were together; actually, anything within a couple of years preceding the 1968 episodes.

AMC - Charles Tyler & Mona first falling in love
(was surprised to see Hugh Franklin pop up on Dark Shadows as the Collins family lawyer (currently watching it for the first time)...funny how Phoebe's 2 husbands worked together before);
OLTL - more of Viki & Joe Riley's relationship...she was a widow when I started watching and the only clips they ever really showed was when he brought Clint around

    • Agree on Bruce Gray as Owen; they needed to cast star power. He was too lightweight against Kim and he had no chemistry with Frances Fischer except more gay buddy or daddy figure.  I loved Nola and Eliot together though. Lee Godart should have been longer term.
    • Andre has the worst fashion of the males which is off putting for someone as fine as he is. His jackets and sweaters look dated and no vintage does not work for him
    • I don’t recall MSW having a toy line in the late 80’s or early 90’s like all those Saturday morning cartoons did LOL but thought this was cute when I saw it in a vintage toy store yesterday:

    • Copying and pasting pasting this here as to not to derail the KL thread lol Wow I forgot CBS actually did try multiple attempts to come up with a soapy replacement for Knots on Thursday nights in the 10/9 slots for the 93-94 season.   Angel Falls had promise but CBS didn’t give it a fair chance. Latham’s Second Chances got even worse ratings than Angel Falls and wasn’t given a second chance when the Northridge quake destroyed the show’s sets. One West Waikiki looked gorgeous but was a blink you missed it affair. Finally we got Hotel Malibu, a quasi follow-up to Second Chances that stayed as the summer replacement series it was. CBS switched gears and had Chicago Hope air in the slot…against ER. It made the Top 30 but obviously underperformed below expectations. CBS gave up, and gave us 48 Hours for years there. It wasn’t until the 2002-03 season when CBS finally produced a Top 20 show for that spot with Without A Trace against an aging ER.
    • Of course I join in on wishing that Peacock & Corday & Sony would all together come to the conclusion that NOW would be a fine time to put some of these gems in the archive on full display!!! But, at the same time I'd like to give kudos to the fact that behind the scenes they've been doing the great work of preservation by taking tapes, etc. & converting them to modern digital formats. Besides the important fact of preserving them it means they are ready to go!

    • Bill and Hayley’s living room set should be redressed as their bedroom. We’ve not seen their gorgeous circular entry way set since the first week? Why not utilise that more and build them a living room off those double doors? The hotel room also doesn’t have a bed? Does only Dani have a bedroom?
    • as posted upthread, this interview was on that channel's youtube   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLraEMlqtTw
