Members jcar03
They desperately need to take more time off. Close the gap to even half of what it currently is, take a gamble on who might leave in that time (I think the odds are low a bunch will suddenly get better offers). Members beebs
*sigh* they never learn. Glad to hear the show is picked up, but that gap desperately needs closing.
Members Soapsuds
The show got picked up because NBC doesn't have anything to replace it with. The sets keep getting cheaper and cheaper. The paycheck for the cast is peanuts.
Members te.
FFS. The break in filming was a good thing. As others have said, the odds that the cast suddenly would land a bunch of new deals in this time were quite low. At worst they might've lost some of the younger cast members. Plus they could've just negotiated for new contracts in advance and had them officially start those in March. If Corday was afraid of losing some specific people he could've just had them do additional web series for the Days app or something.
Webmaster Errol Posted November 21, 2019 Webmaster Share Posted November 21, 2019 To be clear, the earlier production start was reported by TheWrap: https://www.thewrap.com/days-of-our-lives-renewed-by-nbc-for-season-56/ "Despite the cancellation rumors, production will resume in January, according to another source close to production." Webmaster Errol Posted November 21, 2019 Webmaster Share Posted November 21, 2019 They've since updated their story to say the following: "Despite the cancellation rumors, production is expected to resume in January, the person added. Another source said the deal has not officially closed yet but is very close."

Members edgeofnik
@JAS0N47 Did DAYS wrap on Nov. 15 (with 7/13/20 episode) or are they filming this week? If they start in early January, they will still be 6-7 months ahead. Clearly we all agree is far from optimal, but if its the only way to keep the show going.... Members beebs
So they say. I'd be interested in someone trying to work out some other way to achieve similar savings and not cause such upheaval in the production, as well as burning out the actors. Even taking more frequent shooting breaks surely would achieve similar savings without causing a situation as ridiculous as the one with Brandon Barash, where his death was shot before his first scene even aired. It's at that point where it stops being a measure to ensure the show's survival and becomes a liability to it.

Members edgeofnik
@beebs Don't get me wrong - it's a complete liability because the show is unable to both correct course when a S/L is rejected OR take advantage when lightning strikes (Brandon is a perfect example). Granted B&B is 30 minutes, but the contrast is remarkable - that show seemingly pivots so fast, it's mindboggling. But even Y&R adjusts pretty quickly. Members KMan101
This is good news. Not surprised, wasn't expecting cancellation. NBC wants to keep it. It's had the most buzz it's had in YEARS. Ranks top on NBC app. Nothing to replace it with. Makes sense. Wonder how much cheaper the show will look next year? The cost per episode can't get much lower at this point.
