I don't see why FS should have to struggle with his weight.  If he tends to be heavier, then let himself be heavier.  This industry is too damn obsessed with everyone being a size-0 or having a 12-pack, it's no wonder so many actors end up with drug problems and/or eating disorders.

I see no reason why anyone should have an issue with his weight, this is a serial, not pornography, and even if it were pornography, "There's a porn for that." I think being an awful actor delivering awful scripts is what's truly egregious in this industry, I don't care about anyone's body type. Look at the UK soaps, I'd rather be taken by good storytelling and good acting than being preoccupied by an actor's looks.

lol all of this!

THIS!

I do notice when he bloats but as someone who can kinda relate to his problems of weight, I try not to judge anyone. As long as someone is happy and healthy, it doesn't matter. But I understand the shallow soap viewers who want abs and hunks running around, but then again, you can always go watch porn.

There really are a lot of shallow fans in the Days fan base. I think even more so than any of the other soaps fan bases. Or at  least more so than the Y&R/B&B fans who usually don't act like this. (An exception being when some mean (mostly bitter Lane fans) went after Beth Maitland's looks.)

They mostly seem to focused on stuff like Freddie/Sonny's weight/looks. They ask how could Evan like Sonny, even though at this point Sonny hasn't done anything to warrant Evan NOT liking him. They have nice/pleasant conversation. There is no reason for Evan to dislike Sonny. But according to some people he should because in their minds Sonny is not attractive and doesn't deserve anyone liking him. That's what a lot of them are pretty much saying. Heck, some of them are flat out saying that. And it's based off nothing but being shallow. It's one thing if Evan got to know Sonny and decided he didn't like his personality and left him alone.

But at this point, they've both been nice to one another and there's no reason for him to have ill feelings towards Sonny. Let alone dislike him the way some of the Days fans wished he would and do. There is enough going on with this show with the time jump, characters exits and the overall fate of the show being up in the air, that people could talk about, instead of the same annoying shallow stuff regarding Freddie/Sonny's looks/weight.

I would like to see more Kayla/Justin before I come to a conclusion of them, but I agree about Eli/Gabi. Eli/Gabi really don't have any chemistry. I think they are pretty together and that's it, lol. I don't think they've ever had much in the way of chemistry. They might have less chemistry than him and Lani. But they put them together because they wanted to push this lopsided rivalry between Gabi/Lani,. Even though prior to Lani shooting Stefan, they didn't interact much together at all.

Before Stefan's death, there was the drama when Gabi found out that Eli slept with Lani/got her pregnant. But after that Gabi went her separate way and got tied up in the stuff with Abigail/Stefan. Gabi really didn't harp on the betrayal too much, she dumped Eli and moved on relatively quickly. JJ was the one who really struggled with the betrayal and hovered over Eli/Lani. Prior to Stefan's death, her and Lani really weren't interacting much and that's one of the reasons why this "rivalry" falls flat for me. I think that Ron is doing this because he loves Gabi/CB and needed something for her to do (like wreck more havoc) between the time that Stefan left the show & they decided to bring him back.

I'm assuming that Lani might be in the convent for mysterious undercover work reasons? It seems a bit far-fetched that two characters would randomly join a convent unless they're going to reveal Lani and Kristen are scissor sisters.

Agreed! It's basically saying "he's chunky again so why would anyone like him" and that says a lot about some people and personally plays on my own insecurities. Anywho ...

I agree the Gabi/Lani rivalry falls flat. It's very plot driven and it just doesn't quite work. Lani could have recorded Gabi and exposed her. But then we'd have no story. Unfortunately also, Lani and Eli were poorly developed too so it makes it hard to root for them. I like them but I really don't care as much as I'd like to.

Eli/Gabi have NO chemistry. I guess I can buy them getting together but it still feels plotty and filler. Like they needed to bust up Eli/Lani (and had no real good reason to bust them up, so the pacemaker thing came up) and give Gabi something to do (why I also think Chabby are back conventiently until Stefan comes back). I like Gabi better this way for sure but it's cartoonish at times. IDK. I want to love all of this more than I do.

I agree I maybe judged Kayla/Justin too fast. I do think Wally and MBE have *some* chemistry. But it feels pointless because we all know Kayla's riding Steve again once he's himself (if that happens) .... also sounds like we'll get "Steve"/Kate ... I get Ron wants folks to be talking but none of these "couples" will do that and could have the opposite effect. I get what he's going for but for me, it's meh ...

lol! Maybe Lani has ulterior motives. I can buy Kristen hiding out in the convent and turning to God. Reilly's Kristen loved her some church I believe before she went bonkers.

I think both have pure and ulterior motives. It's also a convenient way to hide out and not be found, which is what they both want. It does sort of make sense the more I think about it. Still kind of out of left field but I'm surprisingly here for this.

Justin and Kayla screams one of those pointless vet subplot pairings Ron loved to push on GH. In lieu of an actual substantive storyline for those characters of a certain age, he'd awkwardly jam people like Lucy and Duke (or Laura/Bobbie and Scott again) together for a C-storyline to appear once or twice every two weeks, play superficial romantic triangle follies for them as a background plot where most of the beats are offscreen, and call it a day. He tried this with Viki, Charlie, Dorian and David a bit at OLTL too but there at least there was a wealth of history for the fluff, and they'd cycle back into bigger story later.

There is no legitimate reason to pair these two on DAYS other than to fill space and waste time. Ironically, I suspect this old vet formula for Ron is also why SN turned down a proposed return to GH in 2013 - they wanted him back as Stefan but not on contract, and I'm pretty sure they intended to use him as the 'Justin' to Laura's 'Kayla' vs. Luke. How do you play Luke, Laura and Stefan as a C-plot every other Wednesday?

As for Freddie Smith, I don't care about his grift or Sonny one way or the other but I feel like it might be hard for me to care about the feelings or personal life/health/weight/age struggles of my fellow posters if they spend all their time fatshaming an actor half their age and giggling about penis like the neighborhood pervert.

In all honesty, it reminds me when Ron first came on and brought back Hattie and Bonnie - clearly it wasn't well written or anything, but it was clear that both Deidre and Judi got a shot in the arm and enjoyed playing them again so that sort of ended up selling it more than it should've been sold. I assume that Kristian is just enjoying not playing dreary Hope for now.

I still think Princess Gina should revert into being Salem's Heidi Fleiss in a nod to Kristian's Melrose Place character.

Somehow I think the overwhelming majority of FS (FatShamers) are the same people who DEMAND unconditional acceptance from others. I always find it sickly ironic that members of so-called oppressed groups are pretty quick to shame folks on any number of topics, but completely melt down when it’s turned back on them.

I say if you’re gonna shame on a topic, you need to post pix or data on where you fall on that spectrum. Now that would be interesting!

    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.

    • A little too much focus on Chad and Cat today but I enjoyed the episode. I have a feeling that Jennifer’s gonna get dumped on though, even though I think that her anger is completely understandable and justified. And honestly, Ron is finally gone; Abigail can come back now.  But, welcome back, Anna! It was nice seeing Carrie have scenes with her mother. Christie Clark and Leann Hunley have never really had that many scenes together and to see them have them now is really nice. I’m glad that both of them were there to comfort Marlena too. Their words were definitely the thing that Marlena needed to hear. Btw, with all this talk of Noah, does it mean that he’s gonna be introduced soon? Amy, revealing that John changed her flat tire many years ago seemed a little random though. I would rather she have said something about how everybody in Salem knows of John Black because of how he was always such a hero. But at the same time, her story also showed what a great guy John was.  I liked Kate’s scenes with Philip too, and her promise to get back at Xander for what he did. And since we didn’t see JPL in the bed, did he need some time off or something? And yeah, everything involving ‘One Stormy Night’ still seems very Ron-like to me.
    • The second photo featuring the late John Spencer is from the Law & Order episode, "Prescription For Death", which was the (second) pilot/first episode all the way back in 1990! He played the father of a daughter that had gone to the ER for a mere sore throat but ended up dead because the doctor on call was drunk and had given her medication that she had an adverse reaction to, after receiving some other medication. So, he will always have that great distinction in addition to The West Wing. (The first pilot, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", was filmed in 1988! The show was offered to CBS, but they passed. In syndication, it is oddly placed as the sixth episode of Season 1. And Roy Thinnes played DA Alfred Wentworth there. When NBC picked up the show two years later, Thinnes declined to return, and that's how we got Steven Hill's DA Adam Schiff.)
    • exactly. I can understand schadenfreude if it were real, but a lot of this is just an engineered distraction.
    • Days of our Lives S60E204 – Thursday, June 5, 2025 Okay, today’s episode was kind of boring. It was nice seeing Jack and Jen back, but they wasted an entire episode on Jen chatting with Julie - one scene would’ve been enough. Also, why didn’t Jack and Jen go comfort Marlena? And wouldn’t a flashback with Jack, Jen, and John have been great? Maybe something from the Cruise of Deception era? Bottom line - it feels like once John’s memorial is over and the returning fan favorites leave Salem… the show’s going to be dull again.
    • Everything with Elon and Trump is a stunt. If people, and the sycophantic press, are talking about their "feud," they are not talking about Republican plans to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA.
    • I can't fully remember, but I don't think they tried to get Beth Chamberlin back. I think Laibson/McTavish likely saw Beth as old news and wanted to move Philip on; either that or have her return only when Philip was closely tied to a new woman. Thanks as always for these recaps. I think I had stopped watching around this time and mostly kept up by reading in the soap magazines. Bridget's degradation was horrible to watch, as the character had grown so much over the years and was clearly regressed just to be a foil for a "hot" couple viewers had zero investment in.
