Also- the internal inverstigation over Moonves and the findings are how the public learned about the payout for Eliza Dushku this week.  I wonder if there is more to Mal’s exit as that cast member claimed and rumors has been saying for months.

They did??!  That's not what I heard when I contacted their NYC office.  Did you know any participants?

P&G had a writers' program as late as 2003-2004. I actually toyed with applying. I recall you had to come up with a story bible for characters that were currently on the show. I remember telling a co-worker that I was thinking of applying. She was aghast. "Why would you want to write for a soap opera?" she asked. "They're trash. You're a much better writer than that!!"

Wow, were you in school at the time?  Were you NYC based?  I mean, ATWT was basically trash by then but I have questions, lol!  ATWT was probably the only soap I ever even considered wanting to write for but it would've been the ATWT of one of the Golden Ages, not the fare of that last decade, which was filled with crap that set my teeth on edge.

Wasn't Melissa Claire Egan one of the actors Mal fired?

I wonder that myself.  MY and TPTB might have reached a "mutual decision" in order to avoid a potentially ugly situation down the road.

Well he did get rid of her character although I loved it when her character was actually awake and not in a coma being nice and with frat boy Nick.

The feeling, frankly, I got (and these are not her words) is that any blame that happened while she was involved after Bill's death, she'd get thrown under the bus for.  The existing Bells sound like a family that really does not know what's in the best interest for their own soaps, as much I am not suggesting they sell the shows outright.  But they seem extremely conservative and close minded about creative decisions that Bill would not have been about (mind you this is all I have gathered and assumed from a 20 minute conversation!)

I agree.  I didn't expressly ask about her role as a consultant during the Sussman era, so I'm not sure what went on there (though she did laugh when I asked if she could define the role of creative consultant on a soap--and she basically said it was someone who offers suggestions that are ignored).

Thanks for the insights! Considering how she was treated eventually, that wouldn't be surprising.

She could return classic Y&R to us, if allowed. But that's the key thing.

Hoping Morina brings back the old Y&R composers so we can finally hear those classic cues again.....but I don't have high hopes.

I could swear someone posted on SON about JFP selling the classic scores... Did I dream this or can anyone confirm?

If that's the case, then the classic cues are definitely not ever coming back.

I was pursuing my MFA in creative writing at Rosemont College at the time. I live in southern New Jersey, so not far from NYC. I can't recall how I learned of the program. It was definitely 2004 since I started the creative writing program that January.

You’re not wrong. I don’t recall the poster but if I recall correctly, it’s in the Classic Y&R/Old Articles thread.

If true (and no reason to think it is not, given they completely vanished by November/December 2012), then an absolutely bone-headed decision, either absent of consequential awareness or a deliberate and wicked attempt to get rid of the past for a few quid.

Just 🤦🏿‍♂️

DD needs to STFU. he honestly thinks the show should wrap around him. he's such an overactor now, Drake Hogestyn would guffaw at him.

I'm so tired of him and EB and their entitlement and Twitter antics.

Dumping Chelsea was one of Mal's better moves.

Thanks for confirming.

I think I was so furious to read that I delayed processing it for a while. Not that I'm surprised, but the thought of them selling off the scores... that the classic Y&R scores do not belong to Y&R anymore... OMG.

Yeah, now I remember that you told me about this recently.  by '04, I had completed my coursework and was finishing up my thesis.  I wasn't able to watch any soaps at that point, too much to do.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out with the changes at Y&R. I wonder whether any meaningful change can really take place with the current budget that Y&R currently has.
