Maybe I'm wrong but I assumed that Esther would be responsible for the upkeep since she got a $20,000 per month stipend but maybe that money is for her to spend as she wishes? (*shrugs*). In any case, someone is going to be saddled with a maintenance bill for the mansion.

This episode felt really weird and incomplete with no Brock, Mac, Nina, Phillip or Chance at the reading.

YES. Lord knows I'm not as versed in Y&R as others here are, but I grew up watching these characters and they were real people to me. I tuned in for the funeral episodes last week and some of the will-reading today, and this Mrs. C sh!t is just crazy. I know people sweeten up once a loved one has died, but acting as if Katherine was merely a curmudgeonly grandmother with a heart of gold sucks all of the soapy history out of the character's life. Sad.

Absolutely. The last 7 years destroyed Katherine's legacy. They sucked the anger out of the character and rewrote the dynamic with Jill to the point that it was Katherine the saint and Jill the sinner, when in fact there had been 30 years of symbiosis confirming that each woman was to blame in equal measure and that they couldn't live without each other and that their relationship ended up being the most significant one either woman had in their lives. The hateful dynamic became comic relief, no more apparent than last year, shortly after Jess Walton returned to the role of Jill, when Kay faked being sick to see if Jill cared about her which ended in laughter.

If anything, Katherine, for many years, was a bigger bitch than Jill, even when she had someone to love her, like Rex, she made Jill's life hell. And we loved her for it. The audience, by in large, loved wicked Katherine, we loved watching Jill and Kay tussle because it was a fair fight, they were both, paradoxically, villain and victim.

And yet, LML and MAB disregarded this completely and went with "magnanimous Katherine"...and she was boring to watch and couldn't have been that much fun to play. The Katherine of this last decade had everything "together"...she was never a mess. And therefore she was not the character Jeanne Cooper played the hell out of.

If I took over this show, I would decapitate Cane on Day One.

I don't understand why soap execs are so awed by these marginal celeb hires. The dude had a Beastmaster syndicated cable series. Who cares? At least Corbin Bleu on OLTL is charismatic and a young male of color.

Much to my chagrin, he is the father of Lily's children and she can't have anymore. So now the writers don't have to worry about her having kids with any other characters from core families. Cane has served his purpose. No Winters in the core families. Let's move on from Cane now please.
