Actually, their faces, voices, and overall sucky acting are very very similar. He is a handsome man and mildly watchable, and he has a bit more gravitas now that he's older. I used to think he was wooden, and part of me still does, but I think he's a good stalwart partirach/leading man, like an Eric Forrester figure.
