Y&R Recast

When Morrow first startrd at Y&R, he was something to behold so I understood them put up with him lack of acting ability. He is not any more, but he has managed to survive with tons of story despite his absolute lack of acting skills. Even Sharon Case who was mediocre at first improved and is capable of giving solid performances. Of course, Y&R dumped Heather Tom who was their best younger actress in favor of the talentless Amelia Heinle. This is why I will never be convinced that the soap genre is anything special when the talentless and mediocre continue to strive.

I think Blake Hood got better, especially when JG/JFP "sent" him to NY and Kyle came back with the Billy Miller affectations toned down and the voice inflections more realistic and mature. I liked his chem with HK and was warming to him. I also thought they were going to have Phyllis and Kyle fall into bed together just as their relationships with Jack/Summer were getting serious, and that would have been icky but soapy.

TBH, this thin-lipped, washed out-looking recast does nothing for me (the Van Hansis look never did), and the best Kyle was 12-year old Kyle from 1-2 years ago.

I kind of liked the Kyle being older than Summer angle and had finally started liking Blake Hood as Kyle but I can understand a recast. I have been impressed by JFP's casting so far especially when compared to MAB so as long as the new recast can act, I'm good.

I suppose this might be the reason. But then, what is the prupose of it? I thought the setting was already lame but I liked the Summer/Phyllis dynamic recently.

As Cat I suspected Phyllis to follow the tramping ways of Brooke Logan and hit the sheets with Kyle as soon as he and Summer were dating. But with the new teenie actor, not so much.

Don't put it just on DC, you find it at SON, SOC, and all over the soap boards. It is how the online soap fan world rolls. The worse actor will have a vocal fan base that swears up and down that he or she is the next Robert DeNiro or Meryl Streep. How else do these bad actors stay in employed and flourish on the soaps?

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.

I'm sorry but I'm a glutton for punishment. Would love to see this woman OWNING the canvas. Telling off Leslie who tells her she's the head b!tch.
    • And in case anyone is confused; Rusty was hired by HB to work undercover and infiltrate some gang sabotaging Lewis.
