GH: Discussion for the Month of April

I think she's a far better producer than FV but her handling of pets and firings and show direction is not her strength. I do think over the years she's done a good job with younger or greener actors. I know GH used to have acting coaches on staff under her. I just don't think today's soap environment is conducive any longer to helping actors develop or do better. As for Lexi, shes young so I doubt anyone is going to pay much attention to a teenager.

For the record, I don't think she's as nearly as terrible an actress as some say she is and will even go as far as to say that she is a victim of the OLTL-hate bandwagon that everyone and their mother is on. (Then again, as I've stated before, I don't watch soaps for the sterling acting talent.)

Like you, I watched Starr grow up as the child of one of my favorite soap supercouples, so I, too, have a soft spot for her. Would I be as invested in her if she wasn't the child of T&B? Nope, but I wouldn't find her nearly as loathsome as some do.

That said, I'd much rather watch her college-aged character than the abuse-accusing brat that preceded her on this show.

Agreed. I'm still hoping that he can bring on the musical guests in the same way as he did with OLTL.

Im most definetly NOT on the OLTL hate bandwagon and think her acting on this show is atrocious (not tha it was much better on OLTL). The scene the other day when she was supposed to be "crying" while expressing her pain and anger to Michael at his place was cringeworthy especially as no tears were coming out of her eyes. She's really not that good

Actually, if you read interviews it was JE and TG who trained Berman and NLG who trained Ainsworth. For the first few years of Berman's Lulu, she never worked with anyone but the greats. Directors bring talent out of actors. Producers don't have that role.

Argh, my eyes, my eyes! Totally cringe worthy. That girl has absolutely NO talent. She cannot act, sing, dance, or be sexy. On top of which, she is weird looking. She is lucky that ABCD has no judgement or she would be unemployed.

    • Roger's return storyline may have been silly but Roger's return was what lead to GL's last golden era.  It was the combination of Roger's return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP that got GL to finally hit it's stride after some really bad years. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run didn't reflect the quality of the show.
    • He also gave some of the best episodes, like the episodes surrounding Doug's death. The problem with Days was that Ron had a horrible vision from he top. I don't feel the same for MVJ and nothing that has happened in all these months suggests she doesn't have a handle on the show. Now if it becomes an issue I'll acknowledge it, but I'm not seeing it so far.
    • Jean Hackney was awful and that lead to Ben's exit story which sucked. I liked Ben/Val together. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life and Ben's love for Val made him willingly decide to raise another man's children as his own.
    • It wasn't just a GL thing, it was an 80s thing. Opulent party scenes on soaps were very big back then. Even in regular episodes where people are just going to dinner they're dressed up like they're going to see royalty.
    • Just started the May 27 episode and first thing I see is that Willow got an ugly haircut since hte last time i watched   I dont have the context for how everthing went down but I know its all Lulu's fault which make her a bish for what she did to Gio
    • I'm pretty sure he was. But point taken. GL really had a thing for masked and costumed balls/parties in the '80's. Everyone looks fabulous, but those poor costume designers.
    • Still here ^^ Come on Prime Video, it's due to bring it back!
    • Got through the eighth season, and it was... painful.

    • I agree 100% with both you and Mitch64.  Soaps have been going further and further off-course since 1981. TPTB just don't have a fundamental understanding of what makes soap fans so loyal. I'd love to be on a writing team with both of you.  Maybe we could put together a real soap opera, and show people what its all about...
    • They weren't in town, but Fletcher worked at the paper (and we saw anniversary Journal headlines for the 50th, although I don't remember if Roger was one of them), and I'd think Alex would have at least heard of him due to the damage he did to Spaulding only a few years before her return to the fold. I know I have to remember it's not real life, of course.
