November 23, 201114 yr Member HOw do any of us know what the agreement was with ABC or Disney. Maybe since they are not moving forward they dont owe ABC a dime ot it could just be a huge tax writeoff And do they even have the rights to stream old episodes online? I am with Soapsuds at this point. I just wish someone would start releasing DVD sets Edited November 23, 201114 yr by JaneAusten
November 23, 201114 yr Member And everyone keep in mind, this Prospect Park collapse news comes on Thanksgiving, classic Hollywood PR, they're burying this news by the holidays. Next week, this will be old news.
November 23, 201114 yr Member Perhaps it's my having lived in Los Angeles for years, knowing people in the business for years and knowing of Jeff Kwatinetz that gave me concerns about this venture right from the start. I never believed this project was going to happen and although I sound smug, I take satisfaction in knowing that my instincts were correct. Carolyn Hinsey, ABC, Prospect Park...they're all liars. They knew the financing wasn't there, they knew the market research wasn't there and they knew the timing wasn't there to make this project happen. It is little surprise that Susan Lucci didn't play ball with these clowns, she's been a star for 41 years, she saw the writing on the wall and it wasn't written by Agnes Nixon. I have absolutely no doubt that Helmut Huber, Lucci's husband, was instrumental in encouraging AMC cast members to resist taking the Prospect Park bait. Debbi Morgan, Jacob Young and Lucci herself are likely relieved that they made all the right moves. I'm sorry for the actors who weren't as fortunate. I'm sorry this has happened for the fans who bought into Prospect Park and ABC's version of the truth. Although not a particular fan of OLTL, I loved AMC and said my goodbyes on September 23. Like I said before, I had zero doubt that the Nixon soaps would move online (because I was gullible enough to believe the soap press); however, one didn't have to be all that knowledgeable or psychic to realize that--in the best case scenario--both soaps would have only lasted a year or two online at the most (while looking like the last 18 months of GL). However, whenever one made a prediction (early on) that the PP venture would be less than successful, much of the time vicious personal insults were hurled that person's way. Often, such folks would be dismissed as "disgruntled and bitter" (because their own soaps didn't get saved), and nothing these people said was taken seriously. And even though emotions have been running very high ever since April, there is absolutely no excuse for this type of behavior. Along with most of the others who correctly predicted this venture would end in failure, I am not happy about today's news. I really don't believe that the naysayers were rooting all along for failure. I just think a lot of naysayers really felt the initial PP worship was so over-the-top, and wanted to provide some sort of counterbalance. And in my case, I also wanted to warn people of the dangers of believing in false hope. I have been burned by false hope in the past, and sadly, so many of you are now being burned by the false hope PP, the soap press, and others gave you. Edited November 23, 201114 yr by Max
November 23, 201114 yr Member Not what you wrote dragonflies the stuff about what is going to happen in Llanview.
November 23, 201114 yr Member I'll be buying the DVD when it comes out. I was a fan but have vague memories of it. I'll be buying it also as its been decades since I've seen the show and would really like to get back into it. I wish it could be rebooted someday but that's wishful thinking.
November 23, 201114 yr Member Not what you wrote dragonflies the stuff about what is going to happen in Llanview. LOL I thought that might be what it was, but wasn't sure
November 23, 201114 yr Member I never commented on the shows being picked up, aside from one comment made when the news was first announced. I always thought it seemed good to be true.
November 23, 201114 yr Member Ugh. I know one thing. If I am stuck in the hospital this winter I will not allow the nurses to flip it on ABC. LOL.
November 23, 201114 yr Member I visited another board, and a poster there said something that I think is very true: most fans knew deep down this venture would fail, but adopted a confident attitude because they hoped so badly that these soaps would be saved. I guess it's just human nature, but people just want any sort of hope to cling to, even if it is false hope. I'll personally never understand this, as I believe that false hope is worse than no hope. November 23, 201114 yr Member Max I feel the same way about having false hope being worse than having no hope as you get kicked in the butt twice in this case. The only reason I believed it was possible was due to how they bought the sets and such and had union meetings. Usually people don't meet with the different unions if they aren't serious. I don't think anyone would make that much effort if they didn't at least give it a 50/50 chance of success.

Oh, I think they were serious and sincere in their efforts, but I also think they were naive and a bit clueless as well.
