Drew Garrett was the original adult/teen Michael after the show ditched the red headed kid.  DG was ragey Michael that did kill Claudia.  He was around maybe a year?  Then recast during Claudia's murder trial with Chad Duell.  No one really knows why they fired Garrett, but he was pretty good.

Wasn’t the perception that his Michael was not capable of acting out what they wanted with the prison rape storyline?  As in a straight man being assaulted.

His Michael could very easily have been gay from what I remember back then, and he would have been fantastic doing it.  I know he was well liked by MB and other cast members.

Truthfully, Chad has had the most chemistry onscreen with other dudes anyway.

I thought there were rumors DG was difficult to deal with and MB liked him, but not everyone else was a fan?   I think it's a mixture of both stories, as I do think Duell was much more sympathetic with his puppy dog eyes and what not and I do wonder if they were thinking of having Michael be gay with as well.

Who knows what they were going for originally with the prison rape story?  They danced around it for so long.  I felt like the story was too prolonged yet rushed?   The actual timing of the reveal was smack dab in the middle of the Brenda/Balkan stuff and most of the main character's Michael's rape involved were more involved with that story.  So I felt you heard about the rape, the reveal, and how Michael felt for about 4 episodes then we went right back into Brenda/Balkan and Michael ended up with Abby.  It just really felt like that was not the story Guza wanted or how it was supposed to be executed.  I would have to watch it again though.

I was not happy about Garrett being let go, but I thought Chad was a very decent recast initially despite being more conventionally soapy cute. But his skills have completely atrophied over a more than a decade of total dreck, and nobody takes his Michael seriously as a lead anymore. There needs to be a recast.

I'd welcome Drew Garrett back today - but he notably has only worked so much since, which makes me wonder what exactly happened.

Yeah, I definitely have the same feelings as you.  There was nothing wrong with Garrett onscreen to recast IMO, but Duell was very good in the beginning.  I don't even know if CD's skills have diminished or if he was only specifically good at playing that sad sack, misunderstood victim.  It worked great at the time and his awkwardness was perfect, but it doesn't work now.  I think I may have overestimated his range when he started more than Duell himself got worse.  He's just a horrible lead that isn't saved by things like charisma and chemistry with co stars.  I wouldn't mind Garrett back either, but I couldn't imagine him with someone lame like Willow.  I could imagine him taking over ELQ and being much more savage though-which would be a good thing for Michael.  I agree though it's telling DG hasn't worked much and that no other soap snapped him up.

Humm interesting stuff, maybe that's why Michael never really captured my attention, he made me feel sorry during the rape story he was cute and he is a nice back burner I see once in a while, I don't think they'll recast because I've seen worst cases of hamming up and atrophied talent staying on a show for much longer than one would expect, if anything they should've try to write for him in a way to help evolve his acting back (through the years several average actors grew into excellency with the right writing, if anything explore his psyche, rape victims have a trauma for life, and maybe even as you mentioned and I previously discussed on the DAYS thread, have an episode of Sexual confusion, it's time to put those pretty puppy eyes to good use

John Beradino signed a 5 yr contract when he began on GH but Emily  was on a yearly contract. In 1965 she insisted on daily billing before re-signing  and John did also.

i remember seeing their names for years whether they appeared or not. Later Rachel Ames, Peter Hansen,Denise Alexander and Craig Huebing were credited everyday I think.

When did that stop?

Mac Carey and later Frances Reid were billed on every ep of Days. Did anyone else have that perk?

On DOOL? No One that i Know of, But I Think Deidre Hall, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Bill Hayes and Suzanne Rogers were deserving candidates of such Accolades

also this stayed in my mind, it may just be me but I think that when they cast Chad Duell, They had the Wrong AJ in Mind

    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.

    • Lol.  I love that this board still allows misinformation from a bad source.
    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
    • I totally didn’t pick up on that. Just perfect! I don’t get the Maurice Johnson hate around here at all. He didn’t take me out of the scenes at all. I understood everything he was portraying. It was great. I do wonder if there will be a personality shift with the new actor, whom I’m still not excited about. Exactly. Right? I’m in the exact same boat as you. Agree with most of this except I never found anything off with Ted, didn’t suspect a thing. I just watched yesterday’s episode and it was one of the best soap episodes I’ve seen in a very long time. I was enthralled the entire time. Just fantastic.
