Also LOL still performing quite well six months on post-Labine/Mayer. Margaret DePriest seems to have been able to keep things afloat rather well at this point, keeping the show quite competitive vs. virtually anything at ABC. Will be interesting to see when things start to decline there.

I am also surprised to see EON and OLTL getting identical coverage at this point. I wonder what caused affiliates to start dropping EON after this point, considering the relatively strong numbers they pulled. I assume it's down to preferring to air syndicated talk shows and the like in that slot (Donahue in particular), but these strong showings suggest that EON could have really thrived at 4 on ABC if more affiliates had kept it on and in sequence. Particularly once GH took off in '78.

What could've been, etc.

Not to derail the thread, but what were the big talk shows pre-Oprah? Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Donahue, Hour Magazine, Sally Jessy Raphael are main ones I can think of.

Thanks for sharing all this Jason. I am very excited to see the coming weeks ratings for Days as this was the time (after 8 years) the infamous Mike Horton paternity story had its climax and the aftermath of that! Interested to see if audiences tuned in.

Here's a look at the ratings for the series Deidre Hall did just before joining "Days" in June 1976. "Electra Woman & Dyna Girl" aired from September 1976-December 1976 as a segment of "The Krofft Supershow." Wikipedia lists the only first-run episodes of Deidre's segment as airing from 9/11/76-12/25/76, so I posted those weeks below:

    • It definitely flowed beautifully. So much that I was annoyed when Vanessa/Doug because I wanted to get back to the party. I know it was intentional to build up tension and suspense. It worked. lol. I'm glad it was there in hingsight because it gave us that great conversation between Doug and Vanessa. Foreshadowing? And yesss!!! This episode was sooo old school soap giving beat after beat after beat leading up to the unveiling of Eva as Ted's daughter. And we still have plenty of fallout/aftereffects to work through.   Speaking of...Bill, Bill, Bill lol. Good to have confirmation HE was the scary lawyer.   I'm sure I will have a busy Monday, but I can't wait for it. I don't know what I'm looking forward to more. Probably Anita vs Silk Press Sheila tbh. And yes, I feel they will be matching each other 'blow for blow.'
    • And if they go there, it could also be tied to Johnny completely cutting him off, possibly going to work for Titan, etc.
    • @AbcNbc247 maybe it is just that they've gone to that well too often, and I don't like when DAYS goes dark, but I'm OK with EJ abusing drugs, and just skipping the whole sobriety part. Side note: experiencing hallucinations of my son killing me would be enough for me to never want to take a pill again.

    • Part of the reason that Courtney worked at OLTL was because the show had an actual character for her to play.  One that was somewhat different than her character on AW, and after the way she was treated over at AW.. it had to have been nice to be courted onto a new soap that actually valued your contributions.
    • I figured the "long" was already implied

    • The show has finally figured out the correct scene to have at the end of the episode. The one thing I loved about the show today was that we got a pretty decent length scene of Silk Press Sheila at the celebration without any cutaways.  It reminded me of an old school soap opera scene that would run several moments (i.e. Renee's long speech going after the upstanding citizens of Salem on Days in 1983 before her murder).   I think Anita and Silk Press Sheila would be evenly matched.. she would be the one person that Anita would have to work to get the best of.    I do agree that Derek/Ashley were probably cut from the episode.. and maybe their scenes will be used in a different episode.  The scenes that were included (Bill/Hayley and Vanessa/Doug) had something to do with the scenes going on at the party.    Unpopular opinion:  I actually prefer Bill with Hayley.. .they make a good couple.
