Exactly. I really enjoy this show, as most can tell from the shameless avatar. Alot of people who have utter contempt for the show probably have never seen it. I have yet to hear anyone bark a valid argument other than "It replaced ATWT," "Les Moonves got his wife in charge," "It's a ripoff of The View." It's no secret that this show is doing "good:" women who watch soaps are sick of the misogyny and tastelessness that runs rampant on the soaps, and women who don't are probably looking for an afternoon alternative to the The Shrews.

And again, thank you for the ratings, marceline/Lskreet. :D

Very happy to see that last weeks' cliffhangers and the drama had an impact on the ratings, as I hoped they would! Thank goodness, sometimes quality does get noticed, although not often. Monday through Thursday were stronger in the ratings for AMC and that was from great cliffhangers and storytelling Monday-Wednesday. Thursday's cliffhanger was weak, and Friday was weaker in the ratings for AMC compared to the other AMC soaps. It is almost too perfect a correlation.

Yes, all ABC soaps did better, but AMC was beginning to be seen as something of a particularly struggling soap, so this is still great. And not only good news in the overall, but also in the demos!

However, the negative is, if this was Damon/Liza and Annie-driven, then that's not going to help when a couple of those characters are off the show. I prefer to hope it was cliffhanger and story quality-driven.

It's not cynical to acknowlege reality, marceline. BIG bumps across the board have little to do with soaps contents. Last week in December was the perfect storm for soaps with combo of holiday break AND bad weather.

No surprise ABC soaps spiked up big last week as the Northeast had a major blizzard and that's its most watched area of the country.

Anyhoo, that's why I like to look at the MONTLY trends:

Over the last 6 weeks GH is UP 430,000 viewers and trending above it's pre-Brenda averages. Thus far Jan 2011 is beating its Jan 2010 viewership average but under performing in key demos.

Trends watching

July's pre-Brenda averages:

Jul 2010 2,538,600 806,400

Oh surely you have something better to post about other than my "sweeping generalizations" and "judgments."

No, "OMG! Hope OLTL went up this week! ON FIRE, BABY!"?

No, "Let's see what next week's numbers are gonna do on a non-bad weather week before we start calling The Talk a success."?

No, "Great work! Valentini, Carlivati, and co. are really putting their foot into this FAKE HD stuff."?

Good point. I had all but given up on AMC weeks ago. The only story I tuned back in to see was Damon/Liza because I wanted to see how the actors played it. Once they hit the sheets I tuned out for good. I'll come back for the birth of Baby Hubbard but other than that I've moved AMC onto the junk pile with OLTL. I'm done helping Frons keep his job.

The soap fans are aging and shows aren't attracting younger viewers to replace them. Even when AMC has a big spike up its demos rarely rise as they just merely attract former OLDER viewers. OLTL is in same boat pretty much.

However, GH is the one soap who has had some pretty wild demo swings.
