I thought the original casting of the show was perfection. Even though a few actors came across as green in the beginning, they all had a certain "je ne said quoi," a certain star appeal. And they all grew into their roles quite nicely.

Of the original actors that were the Brooks/Foster children, did you think any of them had primetime potential?

James Houghton was part of the original cast of Knots Landing and had a short arc on The Colbys. Brenda Dickson in between her two runs was a guest star on Falcon Crest. Jaime Lyn Bauer got a short-lived primetime soap Bare Essence and made the guest star rounds (Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Hotel, Knots Landing) before returning to daytime on Days.

William Gray Epsy remained on daytime (Another World) with some guest starring roles in between his daytime stints. Janice Lynde also remained on daytime (Another World, One Life to Life) with some guest starring roles before and after her daytime stints.

Trish Stewart and Pamela Peters had some guest starring roles and that was it.

Trish also had Salvage 1, which only lasted a season.

I thought several of the original cast members had enough charisma and star power to make it outside of soaps, but as we know, it often ends up being a crapshoot as to who garners success and fame and who doesn't. Some mediocre talents break through and land great, attention-spawning jobs, while much more talented individuals struggle in the background.

Trish Stewart, Janice Lynde, Jaime Lyn Bauer and William Gray Espy all could have hit it big, had luck shone down upon their heads and careers.

Timing and luck as well.

It's funny that two of the Brooks/Foster children recasts went on to primetime success. David Hasselhoff on Knight Rider and later Baywatch. Deborah Adair on Aaron Spelling shows before returning to daytime on Days.

It is curious, considering that Hasselhoff and Adair were not even the best or most memorable actors in the roles of Snapper and Jill.

James Houghton got a short lived primetime CBS series Code R in Jan 77 that went up against Sanford & Son and Donny & Marie.

Janice seemed convinced her Roxie show was going to make it but NBC didn't pick it up.

For every soap star that gets a hit show there are way more who fail. Once they're out of the soap they were just another unknown to primetime producers.

It's kind to call Brenda a guest star on Falcon Crest. As I recall she had one short scene as Tony Cumson's ex.

did brenda dickson actually spend her entire career playing just that one character jill abbott and did she really never return to acting again after she left the young and the restless back in the eighties or am i missing some other roles she did later on

After her 2nd departure that was it for Brenda. There was some talk of a role on OLTL but it may have been just fantasy.

I do think she was blackballed (at least from daytime)'

What puzzles me is how she has been able to support herself for decades with seemingly no income.

I think she "blackballed" herself right out of the entertainment business when she filed that $10 million "wrongful termination suit" against Columbia Pictures. Would you have hired her after that? (I wouldn't have.) That's the kind of conduct that frightens production companies away from hiring someone.

As far as her finances go, she had Dr. Rifkin paying her bills for several years, and then she had Jan Weinberg footing her bills till he finally got rid of her. She likely had SOME savings of her own, since her husbands had been paying her way to a great extent. I believe her mother might have left her a small amount of money, too. It's probably about all gone now.

I thought it was Said (and this might have been a rumor) Bill Bell considered her for Sally on B&B?

That allegation is on her IMDB page. But take it for what it's worth. The same page also boasts that she's a "former Miss California". I've never found any evidence of that.

I truly can't picture that!
