Point taken@Nothin'ButAttitude :)

I came across a couple episodes from 1983, the first one (where Craig is acting like American Psycho) is only part of an episode though.

I didn't recall too much of Frank and Maggie. I had even forgotten that Maggie was Lyla's sister. Both appeared heavily on several episodes on the ATWT DVDs and were so boring to watch. I am glad Marland wrote both of them out.

yeah, uhm, just no to the idea of Lucinda and Lisa fighting over John. Besides the fact it would have given Fulton every opportunity to overact more than she did the last ten years, both relationships were already way past their expiration dates. As much as I admire Bryggman, I really don't know what they could have done with him those last five years. He wasn't going to be happy with being trotted out two or three times a month in the role of "wise(ish) grandpa". (I guess I can't say if Don Hastings was happy with that kind of role either, but he stepped into it gracefully.)

And I thought the story was that Marland consulted for ATWT before taking over HW duties in 1985?

I was diplomatically trying to honor her status in the soap legend pantheon. I don't know at what point she started overacting. It would be interesting to sample her work and see at what point she just let go.

I guess I was trying to also get clarification---was Marland hired in Sept 85, or was that when his work started airing? If it started airing in Sept, my guess is he could have impacted whether or not Frank and Maggie stayed or went. He would have surely had a plan in place and probably been writing/outlining for a couple of months before that.

I think Fulton did really well in the lawsuit storyline..and back in the day when she came back to the show preMarland  and she was the McColl matriarch. But she was TERRIBLE during the Dobsons's second go around and later years..i think when she was bored or felt that the material wasnt good she chewed the scenery to get attention...when she felt comfortable she was okay.

I loved LIsa but yea, Fulton's stuttering and jitterness could be annoying. Funny thing is, she always did well with Wagner, it seems Wagner was to Fulton like Nancy was to Lisa....My favorite line of the last five years..."Your NOT helping things DEAR!"

That person who uploaded the late 90s episodes and early 00s episodes is my personal HERO. It's basically every episode and I'm so addicted still.

Mid-August 2000 now and I am reminded how much I loved Julia Lindsey. I don't even know why but I think it's the actress. Julia's descend into madness was ultimately interesting to watch but in hindsight very sad knowing how it all ended up.

I can't believe Simon and Lily have been stranded on the island for two whole months. I knew storytelling back then was slow but they were really milking this Lily/Rose thing for all its worth (and why wouldn't they to be honest).

    • Thank you. You guys come to the rescue again. I'll take a look later.   Thank you for the info!!! Now I find myself less confused. You and @DRW50 are amazing.
    • I know Passions used this trope with Ethan and Sam to drag out the paternity, but GH seems to speed through certain stories while dragging others.
    • For any other soap, I think I’d agree, but GH, I don’t know

    • Agreed, that there was some strange choices in the episode, especially at the end, but overall, that was some great drama that opens up the potential for so much future storyline. Kat vs. Eva having the most potential, especially over Tomas. I have mixed feelings about Martin/BC though. I thought he did pretty well in scenes with Smitty/MM, but the scenes of him confronting Leslie and of him throwing the books were bad lol she acted circles around him.  It’s similar to what Harding Lemay said about George Reinholt at AW; he could be brilliant in one scene, but then mediocre in the next.
    • I know some of y'all really like Brooke Kerr, and so I've tried to give her a shot, despite her frequent flat line readings and distracted "did I leave the front door unlocked?" facial expressions. But lord, she is so bad at playing a tough-talking badass that I was actually rooting for Brad today to spill the beans to Drew.
    • Googling does tend to ruin it.  For those of us who were teens in the late 1970s and early 1980s, you can't imagine how much fun it was to watch the show in the afternoons.  (It came on right after school.)  There weren't any "spoilers" at the time.  We would always try to anticipate how each crime and each mystery would be resolved, and we were ALWAYS wrong, because the stories are filled with so many weird twists and turns.   The head writer (Henry Slesar) and his dialogue writer (Steve Lehrman) invariably toss genuine clues directly into your face in the most unlikely ways, but then they provide a host of "red herrings" to completely confuse you and send you off on the wrong path.  Once the story reaches its conclusion, all you can think is Why didn't I figure that out weeks ago?  lol
    • Does the vault have the original scene and not the short flashback?
    • I appreciate that you are using AI with the knowledge of it's limitations. Some posters take everything it produces as fact.
    • And of course Mama Ru herself appeared on All My Children.
