It’s funny, as someone that did not watch the show back then, you would think the loss of Reva would be the situation that derails the show.  I had never watched GL back then but I knew who Reva and Josh were from soap mags.  But my YouTube viewing started in 1990, and the show gets better after she leaves.

For me, the insurmountable losses are Mindy, Blake, Alexandra, Maureen and Harley one right on top of another, some

with lackluster recasts.  As someone that watched OLTL and GH, the JFPisms really start with Maureen’s death and the Buzz invasion.  But even with those issues, it seems to me that the show isn’t truly gutted until after JFP is gone.

I’ve seen a lot of Marj now as Alexandra when the show was still well written.  I really believe her as a businesswoman, but she doesn’t have that special something that Beverlee brought to the table.  I loved her on AMC.

Watched an episode from May 1997 and it seriously puzzles me how well produced GL was under Rauch for his first year and a half and then by 2000 it was a brightly lit mess. Writing aside, I love the direction in this episode.

It does look nice, especially compared to what comes down the road, lmao.

All I can focus on is Soccer Mom Blake trying to be sexy with Ross. Like, Liz Keifer could pull of sexy stuff. Why was she like a soccer mom from the start? Ugh. I like Keifer but Sherry was just so wonderful as Blake it's hard to get past the difference now that I've seen so much of Sherry in the role.

Rick Hearst is a great interview. I was dying at his stories about the Emmys and the Universal Studios wedding. It's a shame he's not on daytime now, he still looks great.

Edit: I found the scene where he has tell Lucy that their wedding is at Universal Studios, Orlando LOL

Sherry is so great in that bad girl formula- she is ambitious, sexy, smart, and also vulnerable, angry, desperate and longing for love.  Sherry also adds a fantastic sarcasm and biting humor to a lot of her scenes.  She really stands out, has specific relationships with many characters and holds her own with characters like Alex, Roger, and Holly.

I loved her character on ER. Susan Lewis was my favorite back then.  Now that I have seen so much of her Blake, I really am impressed by her talent.  Blake and Lewis are so different, and I love them both.

I remember reading the rumor that she was in the running for Phylis on Y&R, and they chose Gina.  I think that was a real missed opportunity.

I'm dead. So accurate.

I do think it got better around 2002-2004 (maybe it lasted through 2006 but my viewing was spotty at the time mostly due to the Jonathan propping; ConWest really turned me off before that though) and then ... (EDIT: The lighting I'm referring to, not the writing ...)

I love Gina but I can't believe they passed on Sherry Stringfield! And that she even wanted to do a soap again is amazing.

Sherry was just perfection as Blake. Blake was such a fun and fascinating character as you described. They tried to keep Liz similar to Sherry initially but it quickly faded over time. JFP doesn't seem to like smart and strong capable women.

Susan was my favorite on ER too.

Honestly Sherry/Liz reminds me of Anne Heche/Jensen Buchanan. Like, the look is there, but the style is all ultimately wrong for the role. Remember how they had Jensen looking like Anne's Vicky for a while but then ... soccer mom Vicky (and then soccer mom Paulina)

    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.

Newsom is a craven opportunist, but his comments today were exactly how better people need to handle Trump.
