GL: September Discussion

It is absolutely disgusting that I had to skip to the last 5 mins of today's show because it was boring on every level. Ellen Wheeler, if you're reading this, you should be ashamed of yourself for allowing such stupidity and trash (I know you're trash, Ellen) during a finale week for a legendary soap like GL.

I saw the previews for tomorrow's show - I guess everyone will be kissing except for Otalia. I could care less about Ellen and her freaking church. I hope to God I don't see this woman in my life. If I ever see her and I get to sit down and chat with her, she'll cry like there is no tomorrow. Bitch is stupid and ****** up.

I do like Cyrus and Mel together (I think Shane deserves better than Marina), but Cyrus/Marina should have reunited. He made her less old and bitter.

I wasn't a Jeva fan, I thought they were very self-destructive, so this might color my opinion of them, but even though I hate that their fans don't get to see a reunion, I actually think it is a better fit for the characters to just be friends, and for Josh to try to find himself. Josh has been lost for years, he has existed as Reva's crutch and then wandered around from woman to woman and job to job once he didn't have Reva.

I thought it was funny they had him going back to Venezuela. Maeve Kinkead used to say that in the mid-80s, when GL had to write out a character, they would send them to Venezuela.

I wish Michelle Forbes could have returned for a cameo. Wouldn't you have loved to have seen Josh, priest for a small village, shocked when a confused woman who looked just like Sonni staggered into his church? They could have even had Joe Breen do a cameo as Will Jeffries.

Eddie made my day - when he blew that kiss - it was like DAM was doing it to us and like Eddie I was laughing at Mr. Agent man who keeps looking more and more like a idiot - that can't use a gun and didn't DAM look cool in shades - don't care if story is silly - they should have given us more Eddie than a min. a week.

Yeah, there are definitely WTF moments in this final week. Some things are coming out of nowhere (like Ed and Holly, even though I adored the moment), some things feel rushed (like Vanessa and Billy---SERIOUSLY, TIIC had weeks of Reva talking to her six month old about NotPrinceDaughterBoffer, and the buildup to Villy was an odd mention about every other month until about three weeks ago), and then there things that are just boring and strange (like Cyrus) that really didn't need any kind of closure in the first place.

And WTF...who is responsible for that "memorial" for Alan? I get not wanting (or being able to do) a "big" funeral...but did anyone else get weirded out watching his family grab a handful of ashes and then sit there with ash-y hands after they polluted the lake with him? Couldn't they have at least stood on a dock and poured him in?

And WTF is the point of yet another Remy/Christina non-wedding? Good grief, who do they think they are? Danny and Michelle?

I did LMAO at "super agent" NotPrinceRichard not even bothering to take cover and snipe at Eddie, only to get taken out by some lackey. What is te POINT of this crap?? How is he that stupid and yet able to breathe?

Ed and Holly had no build up or any hint, but I'm just glad it happened. I loved that moment, as brief as it was. I always wanted those two to end up together by the end of the show, and it happened. The show is dead, would I have liked for this to have been explored weeks ago? Yes. But since the show is ending anyway, I'm glad it happened now.

That said, I found Thursday's episode to be a disjointed mess and the weakest episode of this final week so far.

After all the disappointing posts...THANK GAWD!!! As a poster said...EW sucks as EP of GL. She doesn't know how to end GL on a high note. I havent watched all week but have them on DVR....all thess negative comments make me not want to watch. To think this show was golden to me once. It's just fizzling out...EW cant even maintain last weeks ratings. EW sucks!!

Oh, I agree, there could have been better planning story-wise for the show's final week. But I had a very surreal moment coming to realize that Guiding Light only has one episode left. I didn't want to dwell on how bad some stuff is and how much better things could have been. A piece of television history ends tomorrow, it's very surreal to me.

That said, there was some good this week, and though I would have liked to see more of the returning veteran characters, I'm glad I got to see them one last time before the light went out.

Agree that this was the weakest episode thus far. I am LIVID that Ed and Holly get a five second reunion while we get to see Jeffrey fingerfuck Random Thug #1 and whisper sweet nothings into Edmund's ear. Seriously? I swear that character ruins every single thing he touches, including the second-to-last episode of GL ever. They should have just blown his brains out months ago. How's that for closure?

But Ron, you should definitely watch this week. There was quite a bit of good for the last few days even if the long-term end planning was horrific on the part of the writers. They wasted so much time on things that didn't matter and now they are paying for it with having no room for any real closure.

But what we did get this week was pretty good. I've cried during most of this week save for today's episode. Wait. Scratch that. Marj Dusay got me twice today. My bad.

That's the problem with this show...hell with most of the soaps. They still give all the airtime to characters we DONT want to see. I'd rather see a whole hour of Ed and Holly than Edmund and Jeffrey. Ed and Holly are GOLDEN GL...Eddie and Jeffrey are post GOLDEN GL. I was never a fan of either one. What a waste!

I will probably watch. I have plenty of time since only one show is left. I dont need to rush and catch up. The clips from 60 minutes of GL made me miss those golden days. The show isnt 1/10 of what it once was. I could go on..but whats the point. I think the best thing that could happen was for GL to get cancelled. EW cant damage this show anymore. I will miss the GL I once loved but not this hot mess that EW and her hacks created.

It's been so weird I've been DVRing and taping this last week too but it does not feel like a soap's final week at all. I loved some of the scenes on today's GL but just does not feel like a show that's going to end tomorrow. Wheeler and Kriezman really should have spend weeks, months wrapping everything up instead of these brief, rushed scenes. I've been loving it to an extent but I can't believe how some of this stuff has been so poor.

When Tom Pelphrey Jonathan gave Reva the hand, didn't you think that was a little rude, even for Jonathan? I mean, TP and KZ are cut from the same scene-whoring cloth, but I didn't like that acting choice (which felt improved) and honestly I felt a little insulted, like it disrespected Kim. I really wish she would have smacked his hand out of her face. Sure, it seemed like something the jerk in Jonathan would do at a vulnerable moment, but my point is it felt more actor (going for a clever moment) than character.

I thought Marj Dusay (the lady Constance Towers is serving a palm sandwich in my avatar) was wonderful today, I will miss her and hope that she lands even a dayplayer role on another soap very soon. She would be awesome as Dorian's fabulous PR person/fundraiser on OLTL or something.

    • That's true. He may have ended up keeping her on a recurring basis, like Dr. Michaels on ATWT. I'm trying to remember if GL had a similar long-running therapist.
    • Oh in terms of ratings I think it would have been in a dicey place probably even before then. I mostly was just thinking of if the show could have carried on creatively.
    • Even if by some miracle Knots Landing continued, 1994/95 it would have been killed by ER.

    • Assuming that Marland had been allowed to write the Carrie story the way he'd envisioned, Millette would've been involved in the story. And she might've played a role in Andy Norris' return (if the speculation on that had ever materialized, and Marland loved bringing back bad boys) But he doesn't seem interested in Sara's personal life. And the women of Springfield could only be analyzed so much.
    • This better be something, because as I said, so far it's just cliches and stereotypes -- the story we've heard a thousand times about the homeless person who doesn't want a home and prefers to live on the streets.
    • @rsclassicfanforever thank you very much for the recent uploads of season 13 containing some episodes that were skipped or glitchy on YouTube!  I had a look at 3172 though and there is no audio for most of it? Would you have a copy with complete audio? Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
