AMC: Jamie Luner In As Liza

So we're supposed to believe that Jamie Luner as a character that went to high school with MEK, Debbie and Darnell? Sure. Why not. Have at it.

And honestly soap writers need to realize that there are other careers besides lawyer, doctor, cop and "business tycoon."

I know Carrie Genzel had her fans, but she was fired after 9 months because as then-AMC Executive Producer Felicia Behr said, IN PRINT, the audience wouldn't accept anyone other than Robin Christopher in the part.

So let her play Liza. It's a done deal, anyway.

Carrie Genzel played Skye for a year and a half - from Spring of 1996 to the Fall of 1997. And Behr was long gone from AMC when Genzel was let go. In fact, Francesca James had just taken over as EP when Genzel debuted.

I'm not a big fan of Genzel or anything... just wanted to clarify those events.

As for Luner, I was actually bothered by the idea of her playing Skye.... and am, to my surprise, a bit LESS bothered at the idea of her playing Liza.

I have ZERO worries about her "appearing too young." Luner has never appeared young to me by any stretch of the imagination. If she really was born in '71 (and I have serious doubts about that), I think she has always skewed older in her looks and delivery. And I'll tell you this... her voice and Marcy Walker's voice, as distinctive as they sound, are actually pretty similar to eachother.

If Luner goes blonde, the physical transition will be a lot easier. Beyond that, we'll have to wait and see. I'm curious how she'll do it.

As I mentioned in the other thread, it's ironic that Luner replaced (quite unsuccessfully) Ally Walker as the lead in the TV series, Profiler. Those two actresses couldn't have been more different... Yet, here's Luner assuming Marcy's role today, while Ally Walker was a near-recast-for / eventual-co-star-of Marcy from their days on Santa Barbara. Weird.

i dont think the hair color should be an issue - if Liza changed and became a lawyer why not dye her hair? lol.

that said, it is an odd choice. really odd.

WTF!? I wanted Marcy Walker to come back as Liza...

But I will see how Jamie is as Liza. I am willing to give her a chance.

as long as she does not talk in that fact southern accent she used on Savannah when she was portraying Peyton Richards Massick I will give her a try as Liza!

LOL! What the hell is wrong with AMC?!

I agree with the consensus, she should have been a recast for Skye. Unless they plan on bringing Robin Christopher back.

Wow! She's a worse choice for this than she was for Skye!

Let's recast the entire show with well-meaning but horribly miscast Aaron Spelling people! Starring Josie Bissett as Dixie! Laura Leighton as a too young Skye (yes she is too young)! Josie Davis as Kelsey, who is now apparently a hardened cocktail waitress! That superstar in the making Angel Boris as Anita, whose face in no way resembles the grille of a mack truck!

LOL. I love you Vee!

Ummmmm... really?

Marcy Walker ... Jamie Luner

Really?

Good actress, not so sure on the character choice.

Agreed. This recast makes absolutely no sense. Looks like those who were dreaming of Mary Beth Evans as Liza can continue dreaming. I would have much rather seen Marcia McCabe take on the role.

Yeah, what a horrible choice for a role like Liza. But I guess Pratt plans on reinventing the character, which sucks for longtime fans of the character, especially Marcy Walker fans.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so hoping this was a rumor!!!! I will continue to watch, though I am sorry for the Marcy Walker fans!!

Sure does suck for us! I miss her, but understand she's happy with her life now.

I am not sure I am going to like her as Liza. But I am glad Liza is coming back - Marcy Walker or no Marcy Walker.

From what I have understood from everything published Walker has moved on with her life in a new direction. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't have Liza just because of that.

I would love to have Walker back on my TV but if she is happy then that is all that matters. And it seems to me that she is doing what she wants to do now.

Co-sign.

Carie Genzel played Skye in the mid 90s and was very well recieved. She made me a fan of the character and I only came to love Robin's Skye after the character became a favorite of mine under Genzel.

I LOVED Carrie Genzel as Skye! She is love.

Genzel appeared for much longer than six months, as has been previously pointed out. Still love her & wish she'd return to daytime. I'd LOVE to see her as Victoria on Y&R.

I'm right there with ya, but what can you do?

I won't judge until I see her on my screen.....but right now, I'm really wondering how she is/can be/will be Liza!

I've never seen this actress perform, but by looks alone, I see a Skye or even Dixie, but Liza? Hmmm...

Wow. I can not picture her as Liza. At all.

Very strange.

Quick question to the AMC history buffs - was Marcy Walker the ONLY Liza?

No. Alice Haining (sp?) briefly played the part in 83 or 84, when Marcy left the first time.

Behr/James, doesn't matter who said it....it was said, lol, in print. That Genzel was dumped because the audience wouldn't accept anyone other than Christopher in the part. (Like I said, I know Genzel has fans, but that was the reasoning given by the EP at the time for firing her).

Here is what happened to Carrie as Skye in her own words:

Despite the popularity of Skye as a character, the Producers decided it was time to go a different direction and Genzel was let go. "Fans were so great, they would cheer me on, even when Skye did some of her nastiest stuff," Genzel said. "It actually wasn't my decision to leave… I was told at the time that the writers didn't know how to redeem Skye after the whole paternity test debacle so they wrote her off."

"I was very disappointed to leave and thought Skye was just catching her stride, so it was sad to go and feel like I had a lot more story to tell," Genzel said. "I never really talked to the writers about storylines or who I was working with. I was happy to be working as much as I was."

"I didn't watch the show all that much after leaving. I found it too hard to see all my friends still working where I had just left and still wanted to be… it was sad for me to watch," Genzel said.

In a surprising move by ABC in 1998, Skye appeared on sister soap One Life To Live, this time being portrayed again by Christopher. "I didn't know she was returning," Genzel said. "I know the fans really love her." Christopher eventually moved Skye to General Hospital where she stayed until 2008.

You are so right Junior, It was only our dream!

On the plus side, besides hopefully meaning appearances for Jen Bassey, Liza's return should increase airtime for Debbi and Darnell and give them something more substantial to do than just play town docter and police chief. I will be very disappointed if the show doesn't tap into Liza's rich history with these characters, especially Jesse.
