Members Soapsuds
Well, they need a 1.9 or so to stay alive. Phillip's return might get them up there and challenging the rest of the soap linup. It is possible considering the have a 1.6 without him. Members dragonflies
I think it's possible GL could go up with GA's return. Yes IMO stagnant ratings are ALWAYS bad. It means not drawing in NEW viewers. Sure it's important to keep the ones you have, but it's also important to bring in new viewers as well. When nothing is doing that, that is bad. Where would tv shows be if they didn't bring in new viewers every week? Cancellation heaven.
Members rangethatrover
I feel like Y&R and OLTL are my two kids. Y&R is my popular and well behaved kid who gets good grades and has lots of friends. OLTL is my crazy kid who does terribly in school, is totally gothed out, quit the baseball team to listen to deathmetal and smokes pot. But I still love him, maybe even a little more than the perfect one. But I am starting to want to get prepared for his/her inevitable demise. Members SteveFrame
I would agree at any other time in the history of soaps, but in this climate esp in the last year when ratings have been plummeting for most of the soaps - stagnant ratings are not a bad thing. And that is not spin. You better believe when Days quit bleeding and went stagnant at 2.0 for a couple of months there Days wasn't saying it was a bad thing. They were happy. AMC and OLTL have both been bleeding for awhile now. So being stagnant is not a bad thing right now. Back in the late 1976/1977 when GH was about to be cancelled Gloria Monty had to stop the bleeding that was happening on GH then. She did. She stagnated and stabilized the ratings first and then and only then did they go up. As to AMC it wasn't exactly stagnant this week. Yes they kept the same number of households, but they attracted bigger households giving them a bigger set of viewers. Everyone had to to realize that in this climate a show is not going to attract new viewers every week. IN this climate of fewer people watching soaps and television as a whole that is just not going to happen. Plus these soaps did not get into the positions they are in now overnight and with that they are not going to go up overnight either. Trying to look at one or two weeks ratings and judge it or a writer as a failure is not logical. It is looking at the overall. Right now Pratt has the ratings stabilized and that is a good thing - just like it was for Days. Days stabilized and they are now slowly building back their audience. If Pratt continues to do what he is doing and continues to build trust in the viewers who have come back then he can do the same. And there are many of us who have come back and enjoying the show. Members Ann_SS
GH is putting all its eggs in this big upcoming sweeps event that lasts 6 weeks. It usually gets a bump during these sweep stunts if they are well advertised so we'll see if the ratings respond in any meaningful way.

And if you want to talk about stagnant ratings, Pratt has only had 4 weeks taht the ratings stagnanted the same and that was early. The rest of the time he has stayed the same only 2 weeks in a row. If you look at B&E they were the ones who were stagnant more often, and at the end just bled the show down from 2.2 all the way to 1.8. So even though some of you are wanting Pratt to fail ABC is actually looking at the ratings under so far as very good esp. when they are compared to B&E's dismal ratings at the end. Members dragonflies
Shows need NEW viewers to grow and thrive. That's how shows build an audience. The same viewers every week isn't likely to keep a show on the air, new viewers tuning in every week, and staying tuned in is what shows are about. Members SteveFrame
Also on B&E's last week they had 2,355,000 viewers. Compared to this last week Pratt has brought the show up to 2,776,000 So he has increased viewers too not only more than a year ago but more than it was in August when he took over. Members rhinohide
Me thinks the Y&R 4.0 projections were premature. I'm just glad that OLTL held at 2.0. There seems to at least be a bandaid on the severed artery. Keep Marty and Todd front and center (because TSJ and SH are the bestest talent evah? And they have the most wonderfullest chemistry?). The Marty hour will eventually drive the show into the ground. Not because SH isn't talented, or Marty isn't an intriguing and strong character, or because the story isn't well written and executed, but because no single character should be at the center of the universe because there are a lot of diverse viewers and not all of them are going to be interested in this particular story. It's becoming the story that ate Llanview. OLTL has become extremely unbalanced again. RC needs to reel it back in, and get over his own personal fascination with this story, and remember there are just as many people who are disgusted by it as are fascinated and compelled by it. And he needs to tie the Montez story to the rest of the canvas. And John McBain sucks!
