Members sivad40
It might not fully happen under Trump's regime, but America will be back under Jim Crow laws within next 10-15 years. A Pence/Kushner/Ivanka Trump regime will make sure of that. Edited September 3, 2019 by sivad40
Members I Am A Swede
The chaos in British politics continue. Prime minister Boris Johnson has lost his majority in the parliament after a Tory MP, Phillip Lee, has defected to the Liberal Democrats. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-49570682

Members DramatistDreamer
To call this a "Longread" seems like a massive understatement. It is a highly granular, detailed and lengthy account of the ties between Tulsi Gabbard and the right-wing Hindu nationalist party. It begins with the origins of the RSS that had roots in fascism and even admiration of aspects of Nazism, it's spread the Indian diaspora outside of the continent, up to Modi's rise in Indian politics and how it intertwined with Gabbard's development in a Hari Krishna sect and her political rise and cultivation of as well as reliance on a network of Hindu nationalist donors. This article references an article that was published in the Intercept several months ago (which, I read, I believe it was the Intercept anyway) but this article is far more detailed, some might say exhaustively so. I read the entire thing, likely because of my interest in world politics, particularly in the Caribbean, Latin America and the Indian Subcontinent but to others who may not want to read the entire thing, the author has a series of subtweets that seem to highlight the important aspects of the article.
Members DRW50
Jim Crow laws are already in place - they just have different names.
Members DRW50
Biden's campaign says Iowa is not "must-win." Maybe not the best idea to say this with months to go, but if it means one more step toward breaking up the Iowa and New Hampshire monopoly, I'm pleased. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/03/joe-biden-iowa-super-tuesday-1479854

Members DRW50
A part of me thinks this was deliberately railroaded through to get a GE more quickly, but more likely, Boris and his equally craven advisers got too cocky and overestimated the splits between the Tory rebels, Lib Dems, and Labour.

Members DRW50
Control of Parliament and therefore the Prime Minister job. Anyway, here's media darling Dan Crenshaw, bragging about how he just lets his friends borrow his guns.
Members Khan
Dan Crenshaw: "I always let my friends borrow my guns, bruh! 'Cept these guns right here!" (Kisses his biceps in macho-like fashion.) But seriously. He dumb.
Members Gray Bunny
Well shoot, my hubby and I would be doubly dis-invited! Oh Mississippi, you keep holding onto that "Least Educated State" title...
Members DRW50
Jim Sensenbrenner is outta there. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/04/republican-jim-sensenbrenner-wont-seek-reelection-1481765 Back in the days of the Bush administration he was something of a bogeyman for Democrats at places like Daily Kos, which seems like a lifetime ago. I remember someone there who lived in his district and was a very active protester for many causes. He passed away a while back, but wherever he is now I think he'll be pleased. Susan Davis is also retiring. https://www.politico.com/states/california/story/2019/09/04/california-democrat-susan-davis-wont-seek-another-term-1168795
