I don't have any trouble with people cracking jokes. I mean damn, look at that inauguration lineup and tell me that isn't comedy gold. If my intel is solid (my company's DC office is up to its armpits in this circus) we might get a few things to smile about. It'll be a sad, dark day so its more important than ever we take our giggles where we can.

I'm going to the movies. I plan to basically move into one of my local recliner theatres for the day. One serves alcohol and full meals brought to your seat. The other, which has a better seat layout offers gelato, fresh baked cookies and a tea bar. (I'm a tea drinker.) Either way, I'm not going to lay one eye on the fuckery unless I hear breaking news that the event was struck by lightning.

For all the back-patting from some in the media about how they are more intelligent than ever in reporting, scrutiny, etc. the NYT always seems happy to prove them wrong.

He also saw his uncle Ted implode in large part because Ted wasn't suited to the expectations on his shoulders.

There's a history of Kennedys who try to make the big leap and are proven unsuited or incompetent in one way or another. The family mostly had one or two naturally talented politicians and a lot of people who were assumed to be the same because they shared the same DNA. Something always seemed a bit sad and lost about JFK Jr like he was trying to find an identity that would never come, but I was glad he stuck to his guns about politics. I'd like to think he would have even if he'd lived.

With that said, it's sobering to realize the only Kennedy who will have any influence on policy is a hardcore anti-vaxxer.

If only those who had voted for him were as lucky.

Rule number one, FOB: there's no such thing as a "day off" for the President of the United States.  Not even when you're ostensibly on vacation.  You take a day off, and people could die.

That's the sad part. The people that voted for him and are struggling to stay afloat could never get a job one day and decide when they wanna work it. It boggles my mind how these people don't see he's selling him a bag of sh-t. I guess they'll have to sit back and see who he truly is over the next 4 years.

I've said that it is gonna take something catastrophic for his dumb voters to wake up and see he was never presidential.

They all are starting off the day early covering him. I hope people protest his ass and don't watch. I know I am not. There's a familial ban in the house that no TV to is to be turned on a news station tomorrow. He won't be getting any ratings up in here!

In the past, I have read that JFK Jr. seriously considered an acting career while attending Brown University, where he had performed in campus productions.  IDK whether he was any GOOD at it, although close friends and biographers alike say he was promising.  (And of course, there was also the name and the sex appeal, which often trumps (sorry) genuine talent in Hollywood.)  But I could understand the lure of "disappearing" into roles that took attention away momentarily from the family name and good looks, as well as that of carving out one's own niche in a profession entirely different from his father's.

However, Jackie, to whom he was extremely close, reportedly put her foot down -- people speculate it was due to JFK's infamous relationship with Marilyn Monroe -- and that was that.  Which might have been unfortunate, in retrospect.

He dabbled, for lack of a better word, in law (after flunking the bar I don't know how many times -- perhaps a sign that he was not quite cut out for the legal profession?); and of course, there was George magazine, which sought to bring together his family's passions for politics and publishing.  But, you know, I never felt as if he was PASSIONATE about those pursuits...and frankly, I don't think he would have been passionate about running for office either.  I mean, he would have done it eventually, because the pressure on him was just too great.  However, people would have accused him of showing no enthusiasm for the job and running solely because he was a Kennedy and JFK's son and was expected to (and they wouldn't have been wrong).

IMO, if JFK Jr. had been allowed to pursue acting, or even if he had had the courage to do so w/o Jackie's blessing, I feel like there might have been a sense of purpose that his life otherwise lacked.

    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).

    • I did some research and the story wrapped up with Eric,a caretaker responsible for Georgina's death who then  tried to do away with Laurie but a vision of Georgina spooked him and he smashed into a mirror, dying of glass wounds. So there was a supernatural element. I wonder if the Brody character in the credits was Eric Brody?
