True.  DYNASTY wasn't everyone's cup of tea - it certainly wasn't mine! - but even I would be hard-pressed to write the entire show off as a failure.  It's just my opinion that what it was in its' first season - and, to a lesser extent, what it was again at the end - could have been a successful show in its' own right, too.

You knew the show was toast when the 85-86 cliffhanger was so bad....

Claudia and her open window candles mess.

Blake strangling Alexis

And the worst.....Amanda and Sammy Jo physically fighting over the dull love boat guy.

This teen did. It was a devastating revelation that resulted in a lot of torment and name-calling from my classmates. In 1981, having parents who had a, what was called "shot gun wedding," made one a pariah at school in middle-America. So that storyline was extremely timely and exactly how a teenager would react, again, at that time. (Still, I couldn't stand the character of Lindsay. But at least that storyline gave her something to actually cry about. LOL)

I agree.

If Heather Locklear had played Lindsay instead of Sammy Jo, she would have had two reasons for seducing and then marrying Steven: to grab a piece of the Carrington fortune for herself; and to humiliate Claudia for humiliating Matthew when she admitted to the affair with Steven at Blake's trial: a revelation that led to the breakup of the Blaisdels' marriage, which, in turn, caused Matthew to flee with Lindsay to South America, where he ended up getting killed.  (If I had been in the Shapiros' or Pollocks' position, I might even have thrown in a twist: Blake, concerned that Steven's homosexuality will prove to be an embarrassment to the family and a detriment to Denver Carrington, offers Lindsay $1 million to seduce Steven into marriage, and another million if their union produces an heir).  To make matters worse, Lindsay pretends to bond with her new stepmother-in-law, Krystle, despite still being angry over Matthew and Krystle's affair, because she knows how much it would hurt Claudia to lose both her husband and her only child to the same woman.

Kirby exemplified the Pollocks' tendency - both on DYNASTY and on THE DOCTORS - to make their "good" characters passive to the point of being frustrating.

I would have gone in a completely different direction with Adam.  For one thing, I would have introduced him as a priest, someone who wants even less to do with the Carrington empire than does Steven.  If nothing else, it would have provided actual conflict with Steven, as Adam struggles with reconciling the tenets of his faith with his long-lost sibling's homosexuality.  And you still could have the triangle with Kirby and Jeff, and even the baby, but you wouldn't have needed the rape, because Adam/Kirby clearly would be the couple to root for, with Kirby marrying Jeff and lying to Adam about the baby's paternity, because she doesn't want to cause Adam to leave the church.

But, when Kirby pulls the gun on Alexis, and Alexis hardly flinches, while Kirby is trembling like a mouse, that was a good scene.  It's got all the Dynasty characteristics. Kirby in a tiny hat with a veil.  Alexis being threatened, but knowing the stakes are low.  And, no follow-up discussion when it's over.

Totally inappropriate by today's standards, and apologies in advance to anyone who has pulled a gun on their mother-in-law, but, very entertaining within that context.

"Who Shot Alexis?" would have been just the shot in the arm that DYNASTY needed at that point.  I mean, she finally - FINALLY! - got the revenge she had long sought against Blake.  What better time to have someone try and off the witch in her penthouse?  There were certainly plenty of suspects to go around, lol.

Who looks like Hillary Clinton.

I am in the middle of season two when Dynasty is not quite *Dynasty* yet. It is nice to find myself watching in the moment with only minimal mental flashes to the show's future. I wonder how many first run viewers forgot about the utterly camp Alexis and Adriana the fortune teller scene with its major foreshadowing.

Nice to see PlutoTV has made it to Season 9 (“No Bones about it” is on right now) and Amazon Prime has it back on again. It’s been years since I did a full rewatch, and I mainly remember Seasons 1-4 and 9 the most.

Still to this day never understood why Fallon’s UFO story was carried onto the main show lol. There are still jokes about it in Season 9, yikes!

    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.

    • I started a separate thread for the same tribute, but of course it can be discussed wherever. doesn't matter where. Fyi  Jason Cook, Staci Greason, and Eileen Davidson will be there as well as Reckell and some of the current cast Thread for Live tribute to Drake https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/68987-days-currentformer-actors-live-video-tribute-for-drake-hogestyn
    • Seeing Nicole and Martin together reminds me of watching Alice with Mickey Horton in the 90s and 00s. The seem more like peers than mother and son.  The younger half of the cast (35ish and below) is playing younger, and the older half (35+) is playing older.
