March 4, 200818 yr Member Spooky! Yesterday I was getting into some old, classic episodes of General Hospital... Guiding Light... Loving. I picked the episodes at random, just cause I was bored. Each one turned out to have been written by Douglas Marland. The quality was outstanding. And by quality I don't mean production values (which were pretty simple), I mean the acting and dialogue was such that it didn't feel like "acting" or "dialogue." It felt so organic that I was swept along in the story and the characters. It was pretty hard watching today's soaps after that. Will definitely be checking out this week-long celebration.
March 4, 200818 yr Member Where did you see the Loving ep? He only wrote the first year of Loving and there was a great episode of it on youtube but I think it's been gone the past month now that the poster Washes Whiter's account was deleted

March 6, 200818 yr Author Administrator I never saw any of Doug's storylines, but I do love hearing/reading about writers. So thank you Marlena and Patrick Erwin for sharing your stories and for this tribute to him.
March 14, 200818 yr Author Administrator Did Marland ever write for OLTL? In Tom O'Neil's Emmy book, Marland is listed as HW for OLTL - is this a mistake?
March 14, 200818 yr Member I never saw any of Doug's storylines That's a shocking admission. I suggest a YouTube crash course.
March 14, 200818 yr Member It looks like they forgot to list Douglas Marland in the credits for 'Guiding Light' since judging by the other credits, it looks to be from the early 80's time frame. Edited March 14, 200818 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
March 14, 200818 yr Member Hmm, IMBD doesn't list OLTL as apart of Marland's resume, however, they list a nomination for OLTL under Marland's award section. I always assumed that when he left GL in 82, he left to create Loving and then wrote the first year of that show before going over to ATWT in 1985.

Yeah, it's for the 1982 Emmys. So I guess the book made the mistake of putting Marland for OLTL instead of GL.
