The remaining contenders are all relatively accomplished players who’ve been discussed as potential major singles champions at some point in their careers (not to mention two-time RG champ Swiatek—even Khachanov has a Masters title). This year, we don’t have relative randoms like Raducanu or Fernandez (which was fun in its own way—Leylah had a Slam on the juniors circuit, which isn’t the same) or even a doubles specialist like Krejcikova suddenly redlining at Roland Garros. The epic, five-set quarterfinal—which Alcaraz won, 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3—started on Wednesday night and finished in the early hours of Thursday morning in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Would’ve loved to watch the Alcarez/Sinner match.
