From what I've heard about Alden's run, she really did a number on the show overall. Wasn't she responsible for the sperm story which has forever ruined Ashley? Or Olivia sleeping with her best friends husband? That was the end of Olivia right there. One of the main reasons for keeping these two on is because they work with Bill Bell and know the characters, but what I saw of their writing I'm not seeing that.

These were about two flaws but as Sylph already mentioned Alden rejuvenated the Kay-Jill-feud. The attic fight anyone? The courtroom battles? Kay on the verge of drinking and suicide... The mirror scene... Jill & John - as friends and parents.

Then the Carl Williams mystery... Diane's ugly divorce from Victor - Leana Love anyone?

I also liked Alden's obsession with the black knight. It was too much on some levels but never boring. Man, those Victor-Jack espionage wars and fights... I also enjoyed Old Vic stranded in the dessert a lot. Vickie's stalker was also brilliant. Actually I loved all of Alden's stories ecept for the Winters folks (hit and miss) and the teens which I usually totally dislike but they were at least okay and embedded in the adult community. The sperm story was so cheesy who had to take it as the amusing extra ingredient.

The perfect writer is right HERE :D

Alex Donnelly saved that sperm stealing story. Love her!

BTW check out the "video bash" forum for a Y&R episode from 1975.

I just bumped onto something on the Net where it was mentioned that those three (LML, KA, JFS) actually/really shared head-writing duties and that they mentioned it in the interviews. Has someone read those interviews? Because I think stories are a complete invention of Latham's.

Since she arrived, it's pretty much been said that Latham has been running things. Kinda like when Jack Smith was headwriter, but Kay Alden was still around. I think the second person is more of a collaborator, but the lead headwriter is who comes up with the stories.
