Y&R: December 2025 Discussion Thread
PM left GH because of constraints so I don't see him wanting a job at Y&R. I'll settle for someone who can write the show to fit in with the budget . No more psychos from the past. No more tedious business stories. No repetitive stories where Victor vows to destroy an enemy etc. Bringing back Faith, Reed, Allie etc so vet characters can be supporting to their offspring.

These stand alone episodes are purely budget driven I think. A couple of recurring characters, one set etc etc It's kind of an insult to the actors/characters. We'll give you a tribute episode but otherwise ..nada.. It's easy to keep a couple happily married for 20 years with limited appearances and no storyline.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Millette as Sara seems so much older than in the 1973 episodes posted. The severe haircut ages her. Thinking about hairstyles GL had a lot of actresses sporting short do's at one time or another. Jackie, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hilary come to mind. Leslie always had short hair and I think Peggy at one point. Whereas you wouldn't see any Y& R ladies at that time with short hair.

What's worse, apart from the stories bearing no relation to what would actually occur IRL, is that there are no sets or cast to support the stories. It mostly happens in restaurants. The show had Jabot and Newman as the two key businesses in town and they could have been used effectively. Instead we have to start Newman Media, Chancellor Communications and God knows what else. Arabesque, Cassidy One, McCall, Marchetti and on and on. Remember the months spent talking about podcasts and now there's no trace of it. What happened to that game Daniel was developing? We had the train set, now the LA bar sucking up dollars that could be spent elsewhere.Billy got a house that we never see. No more recast villian's from the past. There was no need for Cane or Matt. They could have been clean slate new characters. They really need to do a reset and come up with a more effective way of matching the writing to the budget.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
I wonder if CBs should have moved both Magnum and Simon & Simon to Wed.? Either Magnum /Simon or Simon/Magnum. Moving Magnum to Wed worked out OK as Dynasty was weakening. Both shows worked well together so might have both been salvaged by a move to Wed. And something like Twilight Zone and Mike Hammer Thurs. .

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Both times CBS moved Knots to 9pm they followed it with a female lead drama - Jessica Novak (reporter) Nurse, and Kay O'Brian (surgeon). All flopped. Knots stayed at 9pm in 81/82 and Nurse took over at 10pm doing better than Novak but there were a lot of bts issues with that show. When Knots finished its run that season CBS went with Cagney & Lacey at 9pm but that didn't work so Simon & Simon was tossed there and bingo ! CBS solved that Thurs issue allowing Knots to head back to 10pm the next season.

AW Susan Trustman had been front burner on AW since the premiere as Pat Matthews but Beverly Penberthy seemed to slot in well. I think the audience was invested in Pat and because Bev was a good actress they went along with it.

I have a vague recollection of Erica or was it Silver and a soap Time and Time Again. Maybe one of them auditioned or was being considered-really can't recall more.

Y&R: Old Articles
A Patty return had so much potential. Maybe she came back a new confident woman that Jack found intriguing. Patty encourages him only with the intent of dumping and humiliating him. Or she returns still a little fragile but not the full blown psycho we got under MAB. So many better ways they could have gone w/o the ridiculous Emily angle. But it became shock and awe over well written character drama.

Fire Don Hastings??? Please explain! GH was never a family based show in the 60's and early 70's. The arrival of the Webber's changed that somewhat, but the Quartermaines were really the first family with parents and children. That was part of the move away from the hospital as the centre of everything.

From Lily's lips- 'it will be tedious and boring' The show is now blatantly describing the week ahead so we won't have any grounds to complain.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
At that stage Cosby was unbeatable and the opposition needed to counterprogram and put up with whatever rating they could achieve. CBS weird lineup was not necessary. Just program and hour Twilight Zone and be done with it.

Y&R: December 2025 Discussion Thread
I think Lucas Adams is doing well as Noah. The character seems more dynamic than what we got with Rory Gibson. I'm questioning why Mitch had to be Matt Clark. So far all they've said is 'somehow Matt faked his death' Credibility is stretched for no reason. Why not have Mitch be a new character- a sleazy dude who isn't thrilled to find out Noah is messing with his wife. Everything could have happened in the same way, with Sharon and Nick trying to find out more about Mitch in LA. Or if they wanted a stronger Newman connection, have Mitch be the son/brother of someone Victor had tangled with-there are a lot of them to choose from. He encounters Noah accidentally and then realizes who he is and sees this as an opportunity to plot revenge. And there is still nothing particularly Noir about this story.

Agree but as the LA story goes on, if recent history is anything to go by, it will trudge along and peter out. See: Aristotle Dumas, Mariah' trauma, Ashley's personality disorder, Ashland Locke etc etc.

@dc11786 Your observations on shows like Rituals and Another Life, which I will never get around to watching fully, are as interesting to me as the shows themselves. So keep posting!

How about Keith D Robinson on BTG? I guess we have accepted him as Ted, but I think a lot of us would have been interested to see how Maurice Johnson would have handled the role had he stayed.
