Good & Bad Soap Timeslots
The 3.30 pm timeslot seemed to be the death zone for NBC soaps in the 60's and 70's. They had a solid competitive block of soaps (Dool, TD ,AW) from 2pm till 3.30 pm but could never build on that with a 4th soap. They tried Bright Promise, Return to Peyton Place and How to Survive a Marriage but no dice. It wasn't until AW expanded to an hour that they had success in that slot.

Y&R 1980 Expanding to 60 min and changing timeslots put Y&R to the test. The ratings fell but Bill Bell perservered and creatively and ratings wise things got back on track.

Y&R February 2022 Discussion Thread
What? Once again the idiots in charge show their total disregard for the essence of Y&R. All stories should be played out at Crimson Lights, Society and the Goopy Parasol. If this continues we might see homes for other characters as well.

Good & Bad Soap Timeslots
Despite attempts over the years, soaps in the morning have never worked. Having said that, many parts of the country saw the soaps earlier because of time zones and daylight savings, so I guess those folks were used to watching Y&R at 11am or whatever.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Yes these were the season debuts. The previous week, while some shows were debuting (Cosby/Golden Girls and others) to get sampled, CBS aired reruns of Dallas/Falcon Crest -probably the previous season cliffhangers- which ranked 43rd and 46th. Will post them if I find them.

ALL: Proposed Soaps Over The Years
Oct 96 The playing field for late night opened -at least, temporarily -last week when Fox announced that it will retool the new 13 Bourbon Street for a prime time, rather than an 11 p.m., time slot. The network had planned to release the show -about a group of youths living in a funky New Orleans hotel -in January, marking its latest foray into the late -night circuit. But Entertainment President Peter Roth, whose first month on the job has included the cancellations of prime time shows Lush Life and Love and Marriage, said "we're convinced the show can be a prime time hit." 13 Bourbon Street will debut sometime next year. Over at Fox, the late -night potential of 13 Bourbon Street certainly appeared uncertain. Affiliates, especially those owned by Fox, reportedly were unhappy about having to give up lucrative late -night advertising time to the network. Some also thought that the series, developed under John Matoian, didn't show promise.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Actress Mira Waters appeared on ATWT around 64/65. That would make her one of the first black actresses to appear on the show,I think. Irna spoke at the time of her battles with P&G to have black performers on the show in substantial roles and not as janitors or waitresses.Perhaps she had a role as a nurse?would that have been unusual in those days?

Neighbours: Discussion Thread
Channel 5 has a run of the show contract for Home and Away. H&A is in a much stronger ratings position in Australia. It runs on a primary network, unlike Neighbours which was demoted several years back. It leads off the 7 networks primetime schedule and although numbers are down it is still a solid performer.

Thanks for the correction.I was going by French Fan's summaries which listed O'Shea. I've often thought of starting a timeline for SFT -a year by year summary of plots, comings and goings, headwiter changes etc but it seems to daunting atask to commit to.

He wrestled with Joey and when Joey pulled a knife, threatening to kill him if he and Robin couldn’t leave, Tony clutched his heart and fell down the stairs, where he laid dying while Jo was wondering where he was. i believe the money received from Channel 5 has been making it viable to continue in Australia, so if that tap is turned off it won't make financial sense to keep it on there.

ALL: Proposed Soaps Over The Years
November 1995 13 Bourbon St article Fox soaps up after taking bath with Chase Serialized drama to compete with late -night talk shows, appeal heavily to men More than two years after the disastrous, short lived Chevy Chase talk show experiment, Fox is venturing back into late night with a serialized drama to air at 11 p.m. The untitled project will debut in January 1997. Rather than return to the talk show genre, Fox hopes the soap will serve as strong counterprograming to Leno, Letterman and ABC's Nightline. "We have had such great success with our prime time dramas Melrose Place and Beverly Hills, 90210 that it makes sense for us to expand what has been a very successful franchise for Fox," says John Matoian, president, Fox Entertainment. "A late night serial drama is ideal counterprograming and will expand Fox's strength into a new arena." The hour long show, which will air Monday through Friday, will be set in New Orleans at an aristocratic mansion turned -hotel in the French Quarter. According to Executive Producer Linda Gottlieb, filming will take place primarily in New York, with some shooting in New Orleans. Although there is speculation that Fox will push the boundaries in language and sexual content with the project, Gottlieb says Fox's mandate for the show contains no excesses. "I've never been out to do shocking stuff. I want to do a sensual story because that's the kind of city that New Orleans is," she says. Gottlieb, who executive -produced the theatrical "Dirty Dancing" and was in charge of the daytime soap One Life to Live, says the show will be "completely different" from daytime serials. "This will have a completely different look and feel and will also include a heavy music component because that's a big part of New Orleans," she says. The show is expected to differ from its daytime cousins in that Fox expects it to appeal heavily to men. "Fox's mandate is to do a show that draws men primarily, along with women," says Gottlieb. Also, she says, the serial will feature a murder mystery at the outset. The network has made a significant commitment to the project with an initial order of 65 episodes, which will take the project through 13 weeks

Y&R: Old Articles
Thurs Oct 26 1995 Y&R primetime episode 9pm #56 9.1/14. This episode was up against the world Series on ABC #1 and a special line up of comedies on NBC (Frasier/John Laroquette)#15 and #22 Does anyone know what happened on that episode and why CBS aired a primetime special? It must have been in the planning for sometime as it had to fit in with the daytime schedule. As I recall, the nightime eps had a more primetime filming and pacing feel? Am I correct?
