Dark Shadows ended nearly 55 years ago yet it is probably the only daytime soap opera that will live on forever thanks to cable, DVD, streaming.

Aaron Spelling shows are very much products of their time and they haven't aged well.

For an NBA nepo baby, Marcus Jordan is such a waste of space. https://sports.yahoo.com/marcus-jordan-michael-jordans-son-arrested-on-dui-cocaine-possession-charges-140327283.html Perhaps Larsa dodged a bullet here.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
@Soapsuds 1984/85 was the best and most pivotal television season of the 1980s. Pre-Super Bowl was Dallas vs. Dynasty, post-Super Bowl The Cosby Show blew up and Murder, She Wrote would shock the world.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
40 years ago. Week of January 28-February 3, 1985. The Cosby Show finishes ahead of Dallas for the first time. This week was also The Cosby Show's third finish ahead of Dynasty. Here's what happened on the soaps and two rookie hits that week. The Cosby Show - Jitterbug Break (episode 16, January 31): Denise's friends show off the latest break-dancing steps while Cliff's buddies demonstrate the jitterbug. Dynasty - Triangles (January 30): Blake refuses to include Krystle on a business trip. Alexis wants in on Blake's South China Sea oil deal. Dominique turns to Blake instead of Brady when her company is threatened. Amanda moves into the mansion. Dallas - Legacy of Hate (February 1): Jamie and Cliff sue the Ewing clan for their share of Ewing Oil. Bobby and JR have a fist fight. Sue Ellen rallies around her husband's battle to save Ewing Oil. Knots Landing - Lead Me to the Altar (January 31): Joshua's ego is getting really big. Joshua tells Cathy she needs to mend her ways and sing in church, not in a bar, and he breaks up with her. Murder, She Wrote - Murder to a Jazz Beat (episode 13, February 3): A talk-show host and a cab driver help Jessica solve the murder of a New Orleans jazz musician. Falcon Crest - The Showdown (February 1): Chase's investigation endangers Gustav's plans. Lorraine learns that she's pregnant. Mary Giannini tells about her husband's murder.

ALL: General Retro Soap Discussion
NBC never really recovered in daytime from their ratings drop in the second half of the 1970s. The only highlights you could say NBC had in daytime in the 1980s and 1990s were supercouple Days but even that collapsed at the end, Santa Barbara Emmy/SOD awards run but that didn't translate into ratings, and Reilly Days which shook up daytime at a level not seen since ABC's huge rise and domination some 15 years earlier.

The P&G shows were effectively over in the aftermath of OJ. The ABC shows were effectively over with the sale of ABC to Disney.

Dynasty Discussion Thread
Dynasty is very much a product of the Reagan era and to me it was the epitome of Reagan era excess and greed. It's quite telling that it's run began just before Reagan took office and ended shortly after Reagan left office.

In the grand scheme of things Pamela Sue Martin was smart to walk away when she did. She probably saw the weaknesses showing in the writing.

ALL: Couple vs SUPER Couple?
We saw in the 1980s and 1990s Ratings threads that Days had a ratings drop in the last year and a half of the supercouple era (Spring 1989 to Fall 1990). Lots of factors in play I think: viewers getting tired of the supercouple and action/adventure trends, head writer change from Leah Laiman to Anne Howard Bailey then Richard J. Allen and Anne Schoettle, lead-in change from Scrabble to Generations, time slot rival Y&R being #1 by a large margin, time slot rival B&B showing growth.

James Reilly work as part of that great GL early 1990s writing team is such a contrast to his work at Days. James Reilly worked fine as part of the GL writing team but AFAIK he was left to his own devices at Days, and we saw what happened from 1993-1997. Yes Days recovered in the ratings, but daytime was shaken at a level not seen since ABC's huge rise and domination some 15 years earlier.

Thanks @JAS0N47 for compiling these. I'm interested in CBS coverage of NBA regular season and playoffs.

Murder, She Wrote
Angela Lansbury had a presence that radiated comfort and warmth, and that's why to this day she has a fanbase of all walks of life. Angela's career ranged from Golden Age Hollywood to Broadway to television, but for me and many of my generation (1980s kids/1990s teens) her two signature roles will always be Jessica Fletcher and Mrs. Potts.
