  1. Shari Shattuck is one year younger than ED, so age-wise her casting was fine. I agree that Bill Bell should have rested Ashley from BE departure until ED return.
  2. Just in time for the rise of Oprah.
  3. I say blame Les Moonves, Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, and Paul Rauch. When I saw MZ daughter on The Locher Room, I got the impression she wanted to call out those three and put them on blast but she held herself back.
  4. Not sure if this would apply but Maura West on Y&R as recast Diane. Somehow I remember a Maura West interview from when she started on General Hospital where she did not speak positively of her time on Y&R so I think she knew that she was not well-received by Y&R viewers. I think Diane was the wrong role for Maura West. I thought she could have worked as a Grace Turner recast.
  5. Val's babies and Ava Gardner arc were the highlight of season 6 and to me the final 10 episodes of season 6 were the peak of the series. Empire Valley started good in season 6 but became a mess in season 7.
  6. GL became CBS's lowest-rated daytime drama in 1989 but it did not enter cancel territory until 1995. During 1996 it looked like Bradley was preparing for a B&B expansion which I thought would line up with the 10th anniversary in March 1997 but for whatever reason that didn't happen.

  8. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
  9. I figured that. We're good, no worries.
  10. Especially when Abby was a mother herself that had been a victim of that particular crime. Abby may have been a villainess, but she loved her children and was for the most part a good mother to them.
  11. No. My earlier post was to address the two comments.
  12. @JoeCool @Khan As we've seen in this thread and the 1980s ratings thread, 1979 Y&R was challenging General Hospital and All My Children for #1 but the expansion derailed all the momentum. Y&R doesn't rebound from its post-expansion slump until the second half of 1982 and we know the rest.
  13. Kelly was a thankless role that was a waste of Cynthia Watros talent. I think she would have worked better as a Patty recast.
  14. 1999 was Victor's third "death" but there was no funeral. The 1983 and 1993 "deaths" had funerals.
  15. I remember a Donna Mills interview where she said that Abby becoming a kidnapper would make her irredeemable to the audience. There's also the conflict of Abby being a kidnapper when her own children were once kidnapped.
  16. Angela may have been a business-minded messy matriarch, but she was all about preserving her family's legacy. I also loved that she took down her enemies with words and not with bitch slaps.
  17. Brandon Stoddard goal was to get Aaron Spelling hit factory off ABC and Robert Iger was the one who did so. Primetime soaps peaked Fall 1982-Spring 1985 then tanked Fall 1985 and were creatively exhausted by Spring 1988.
  18. Same here.
  19. Another bible to add: Coming of Age.
  20. Y&R from the beginning As the World Turns 1985-1993 that aren't online Guiding Light 1976-1980 Bill Bell Days 1970s/1980s/1990s SOD
  21. 2006 onward are not classic years. I consider John Abbott death the end of Y&R as we knew it.
  22. I didn't know GL was broadcast in Spain. Have any Spain broadcasts turned up online? I've seen broadcasts from Germany, Italy, Iceland online.
  23. William Devane did not get love interests 20 or more years younger until Nicollette Sheridan and Lar Park Lincoln. That's nothing, especially when compared to Dallas and the numerous love interests Larry Hagman had that were 20 or more years younger. In 1992 Ted Shackelford was 46 and Stacy Galina was 26 and the age difference was apparent.
  24. I didn't like Bill Bell having BE Ashley and Traci as romantic rivals. When the Abbott daughters were introduced, it was shown that Ashley looked out for Traci and was protective of her. Bill Bell kept ED original recipe Ashley and Traci in separate orbits as far as their romances and romantic rivalries went (Ashley/Victor/Nikki, Traci/Danny/Lauren, Traci/Brad/Lauren). Keeping it real here, Bill Bell probably realized that Don Diamont was no match acting-wise for ED so that's why he had Brad original storyline pursue Traci and not Ashley. With the way Bill Bell wrote BE Ashley plus Traci role being reduced, BE Ashley seemed like she was both Abbott daughters as one character.
  25. @dragonflies Thank you for the link. Beth Maitland is a treasure and Traci really is the heart of the Abbott family. I'm so glad that Traci finally has long-deserved happiness in her life.
