  1. Y&R hasn't been the same since they killed off John Abbott. It felt like the end of an era.
  2. @SteelCity Yes, it's been posted here before that Bill Bell offered Stephanie to Jaime Lyn Bauer.
  3. The original Equalizer is streaming The Equalizer - NBC.com
  4. ‘Promised Land’ Gets Series Order at ABC — Latino Family Drama | TVLine ABC Winter Premiere Dates: ‘The Bachelor’, ‘Black-ish’ Last Season, 3 New Series – Deadline
  5. All those big miniseries based on best selling novels. Finding those miniseries on YouTube are such treats for me.
  6. @Bright Eyes You got to live the entire 1990s with us
  7. @soapfan770 I chalk up PB's 1991 and 1992 Emmy wins to weak competition in the Lead Actor category. I was not riveted by his Emmy winning episode that was rebroadcast during the classics and the clips shown during the Emmy broadcasts those years. It was posted here before that EB would not submit his name for Emmy consideration. He also didn't mention much about the Emmys in his book and I don't recall EB commenting in the soap press about the years he lost (1987, 1990, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2004).
  8. Big hair! All that hairspray probably caused the hole in the ozone layer.
  9. Days going the sci-fi route in the aftermath of OJ almost resulted in them beating Y&R in the summer of 1997. Also Y&R went off the rails a bit in the aftermath of OJ so they were vulnerable.
  10. 1980s music to me will forever be defined by four artists: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson. 1990s music to me was the R&B/Hip Hop decade, from New Jack Swing to West Coast Gangsta Rap to East Coast Rap. 1998 was probably the last good year for music. It's been downhill since then.
  11. Yes it was. Then we became teens in the 1990s.
  12. Yeah, it looked like they were ready to kill each other. I'd say their beef went back to 1989, the tension between them was visible from the onset, and I felt it was there until maybe 2005 or so. EB didn't really delve into details of the beef in his book, but he seemed regretful of it.
  13. @Bright Eyes I find it so hard to believe that Jaime Lyn Bauer actually played the Days character originated by Susan Flannery. Speaking of Jaime Lyn Bauer, I'm surprised that after she left Y&R CBS didn't try to keep her in the family so to speak and cast her on one of their primetime soaps. She seemed so made for that genre.
  14. @Paul RavenMaybe for Y&R some of the big 1970s storylines/characters could have been an influence, ie. Chris/Snapper/Greg triangle, Chris's rape, Leslie/Lorie/Brad triangle, Lorie's parentage, Lance/Lucas/Leslie/Lorie quadrangle. Then again, brothers fighting over a girl, sisters fighting over a guy, heroines that are rape victims, and parentage reveals are classic soap elements. Also Victor's 1980s character arc, introduced as a villain but with the unexpected popularity of the pairing with Nikki, the orphanage backstory, and his other storylines, Victor was more of an anti-hero by the end of the decade.
  15. @Xanthe @FrenchBug82 When Brenda Dickson returned to Y&R in 1983, the announcement was something like "today Brenda Dickson returns to the role of Jill Foster Abbott".
  16. We often talk about the Dallas/Dynasty influence on daytime soaps but how about the opposite direction, daytime influence on the 1980s big four primetime soaps. For example, characters/situations from Y&R being used on CBS's big three primetime soaps, or characters/situations from ABC's big three daytime soaps being used on Dynasty.
  17. @FrenchFan Thanks again, and as always, much appreciated. The Lance/Lucas/Leslie/Lorie quad is coming up and from what I've read, what a tangled web that was. Leslie was recast in 1977 but what month?
  18. That's where I saw it. Maybe someday the full episode will surface and we'll know for sure if December 1981 was the first reference to Victor growing up in an orphanage.
  19. Remember in 2018 there was a flashback to Victor and Nikki's first Christmas together in 1981? In the scene shown Nikki mentions Victor having an unhappy childhood. Was this when it was first revealed that Victor grew up in an orphanage? I can't find any recaps from December 1981 that delve into the details of the Christmas episodes.
  20. @YRfan23 In a business battle, I say a draw since they are equal in character and one would recognize the other as someone not to mess with.
  21. What's this board's take on this tweet?
