Falcon Crest
Seasons 8 and 9 were off the rails plus budget mode. Remember too that 1988/89 was the writer's strike delayed season thus so many shows felt off that season. Season 8 was a chore to get through and season 9 was painful to get through. The final two seasons were not necessary and they only happened because CBS was in their third place primetime mess era. When a salary dump goes wrong. I don't think Kristian Alfonso was hired on the cheap given her daytime popularity and huge following amongst a younger audience that CBS sought after, but she was the show's new pet that became front burner lead right away.

The Taylor Swift Thread
Opalite is Taylor Swift's 14th #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Among solo artists, Taylor Swift has moved past Michael Jackson and Drake and is now tied with Rihanna. Among all artists, Taylor Swift is the 4th artist to reach 14 #1s on the Billboard Hot 100, joining The Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (19), and Rihanna (14). Comparing Taylor Swift to the other solo artists w/ 14+ #1s to see where she ranks in terms of length between first #1 and 14th #1. The dates are when each song reached #1. Mariah Carey: 9 years 66 days, between Vision of Love (August 4, 1990) and Heartbreaker (October 9, 1999). Rihanna: 9 years 297 days, between SOS (May 13, 2006) and Work (March 5, 2016). Taylor Swift: 13 years 180 days, between We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (September 1, 2012) and Opalite (February 28, 2026).

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
You're welcome. I believe it was. Falcon Crest 1985/86 season lows were March 14, 1986 (In Absentia, rating 16.4, 27th for the week), and May 9, 1986 (Consumed, rating 16.4, 20th for the week). Dorothy scalped Frank Sinatra tickets to an undercover cop. The best part of that episode was Blanche telling off the sleazy professor.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
@Soapsuds posted February 17-23, 1986. Here's what happened on the sophomore slaughterer, sophomore surprise, rookie breakout, new hotness, and four soaps this week. The Cosby Show - A Touch of Wonder (February 20): Denise is involved in a car accident with a limo carrying Stevie Wonder. Murder, She Wrote - One Good Bid Deserves a Murder (February 23): At the request of Richard Bennett, a friend and a popular actor, Jessica goes to an auction to bid for the diary of a dead woman whose journal was stolen on the night of her death. Jessica soon discovers that many more people are intent on getting their hands on the diary but before any bids are made, Bennett is found murdered and the diary goes missing again. The Golden Girls - Adult Education (episode 20, February 22): Blanche's professor tells her that she can pass her course easily - in return for unsavory favors. This episode was the season high. Miami Vice - French Twist (February 21): A smitten Crockett places both of the detectives' lives in danger when he teams up with a beautiful French Interpol agent in a search of a murderous international criminal. Dynasty - The Dismissal (February 19): Blake's hunt for Rita and Joel intensifies. Alexis drives Dex and Amanda back together while Blake attempts to separate the two. Adam threatens to expose Bart's secret. Caress pays a visit to Alexis. Dallas - Overture (February 21): J.R. is jealous of Sue Ellen's friendship with Kenderson. Pam offers to buy Cliff's emerald mine holdings. Jenna resists psychiatric help. Knots Landing - Irrevocably Yours (February 20): Gary's gift to the twins infuriates Ben and Abby. Michael is arrested when marijuana belonging to Olivia is found in his car. Falcon Crest - Flesh and Blood (February 21): Peter's children visit their father at Falcon Crest. In New York, an admiring press agent offers to help Maggie.

Falcon Crest
You're welcome. That video didn't mention Raiders of the Lost Ark and it also didn't mention a couple of other classic story influences I've brought up in this thread. I didn't know about the Pollyanna connection. I also didn't know about This Earth is Mine and that one of our CBS soap opera villain Golden Age Hollywood mothers Dorothy McGuire was part of the cast. Hahaha, that's funny, but yeah, there was no need to venture into James Bond territory.

Falcon Crest
Seasons 2-4 had James Bond elements (international crime group, war criminals, henchwomen) and the season 4 war crimes storyline had elements of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Earlier in the thread I posted a YT video that showed classic film influences in the primetime soaps. Falcon Crest
@soapfan770 I wonder if Sarah Douglas being cast was an attempt for CBS primetime to have their own Joan Collins. Yes, they are both British brunettes with shorter hair, but the characters were totally different (Alexis vengeful first wife whereas Pamela Lynch was a henchwoman straight out of a James Bond movie).

Exactly. Fox, UPN, The WB built their networks off the backs of the African-American audience.
