GH: February 2025 Discussion Thread
All true, along with the rest of their post. I have no pity or sympathy for GH's creative regime at this point. I feel for the actors struggling with the mess. But that doesn't mean I don't think over half of the cast should be fired, because they should. Sorry, but loving these soaps means wanting better for them. Not blindly cheering bad work and extraneous actors or characters on. Is it good for the genre if the Bell soaps stay on even in their current state? Maybe, maybe not. Do I watch them or care what happens to them at this point? Not at all. Will I weep if they go? Not particularly. For GH, sure. But I'd rather GH take the lesson, take the damage and get better. It won't do that if I develop parasocial relationships with actors I don't know, who don't know me, and think that being a fan means I have to always be positive about a show that has gone to shít. Finally. Far from Jeff Kober's best work. He should've been gone four years ago.

GH: February 2025 Discussion Thread
I don't support soap operas that are bad. This isn't a pep rally. I love GH and have watched it most of my life. I also think GH is mostly bad these days and a great deal of the cast should be cut, along with the creative regime. These people aren't my friends IRL and I don't know them. They're not owed lifetime jobs. If you want to know why people are supporting BTG, it's because they're tired of the same old grinding mediocrity (as well as self-evident racism) and are very hopeful for something better. And if it came down to one show I'd watch at 2 PM, it would absolutely be BTG first. Just because I grew up watching this show does not mean I am obligated to always support it blindly, and don't think massive changes need to be made. Despite being mostly terrible at present I am sure GH will be tough competition for BTG. So am I rooting for it to fail against BTG? Absolutely. The only way GH can get better is to take real losses.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
As part of the press rollout for Beyond the Gates, Tamara Tunie gives a lecture and talks ATWT around 12:50. She discusses the FBI being called in over hate speech and death threats. She praises the writing as 'brilliant' but also critiques the issues with diversity, etc later on around 1:02:30.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Oh, not Angie finally. I guess I'll have to find a way to watch. An interview with Anita.

They're going to need some stunts or action and major galvanizing events to get eyes on them in this still-competitive environment (particularly against GH). That's where someone like Guza comes in handy AFAIC. But it doesn't work without, as you say, rich characters and detailed stories.

Knots Landing
This is where @Darn comes in. I dragged him into getting into the show (and may have to help him secure finding it again!) and he insists they should revive the viable property while the cast is still alive. If it is that popular, he has a point. I've laid out some thoughts on that in the past as have many of us in this thread, but while I think Knots is a fertile brand for a new take I just don't see a way to realistically have enough of the families or their kids all reassemble in the same neighborhood, and I don't think a full new cast reboot would last ten minutes either.

GH: Classic Thread
I remember this. It was barely there and was more of a very minor side beat to Nikolas and Courtney getting it on, with Courtney and Lucky being somewhat jealous of the awkward situation. It never went anywhere. I think it was only a means to an end to make Nik and Courtney jealous/out of sorts and help to trigger their affair (which had many factors, including Nik's frayed relationship with Emily), and also make both them and GV's Lucky look worse. Out of all the characters in that story, Liz and Jax were the ones with the least airtime and perspective.

Knots Landing
It does seem truly bizarre to pull them so soon. I do wonder if they'll be back, but I am securing them for myself in the meantime nonetheless.

The authenticity re: DC/MD and the DMV are what particularly interest and excite me, having grown up in and around there. I was lucky enough to go to public school there back when it really was everyone from all walks of life, and before they had overdeveloped my area trying to turn it into New York or the Capitol Mall. A lot of bigwig DC families* (who are still big, though mine wasn't) lived in my neighborhood alongside working class people and sent their kids to school together but my area at least was still very much about the small businesses back then. You only see certain pockets of that today. *(I remember the kid of a guy from a certain less than renowned president's administration got to walk up front in a certain decades-later inauguration procession by virtue of his connections, while the rest of us were in the back. But I digress!)

They didn't mention or cover half the cast, including most of the core characters' spouses or love interests. They didn't cover Bill or Hayley, they didn't mention Nicole's husband or Tomas Navarro (apparently for Kat), etc. I don't think it's a specific thing re: the gay couple because it was across the board. Cady's character was said to be a local spa owner, so I can see her hanging around. I suspect both of them are recurring.

I'm so happy for Daphnee, but whenever I see her each day now I still shed a tiny tear for what might have been with her and Dan Gauthier. They could easily be Kevin and Rachel Buchanan, a tentpole couple for a 2020s OLTL lol. But that would never service her as well as BTG clearly is.

Styling Aiden as an Oompa Loompa from 1994 today was a bold choice. I've said it before, but I'm mildly stunned they got lil' Charlie Besso, a reasonably famous influencer/boyfriend to the stars, to play Tobias a.k.a. Aiden's George Glass. For all of his two lines. He's a little too big for this show. But I still don't particularly care about these two, because the Aiden situation still feels so strange to me re: its treatment on the show. Guy Wilson has clearly had a rough few years and looks like he just escaped the Indigo Girls, and it was terrible of them to let a sub play these LNL2 scenes. But I'll always think Guy is underrated because of those intensely horny love scenes on DAYS where he didn't giggle and smirk his way through them like Certain Parties.

What's surprising is how little Eva has been on lately, which may be partly them hoping people will forget (while recently trying to present Natalia as nothing short of a GLAAD mom). Of course now they've introduced the tedious Sidwell twist we all saw coming, which will lead to at least another year of these two or I'll eat my hat.

GH: February 2025 Discussion Thread
I think the Spencers just aren't a priority for the show which would rather push other storylines and favored actors. Right now FV seems predictably fascinated with Sidwell and the vague imprimatur of another actor from bad cable shows, yet another tedious secret baby saga (BLQ/Dante/Gio) and making sure Sofia Mattsson has a job for another five years, as well as straining to find a way to justify last year's re-investment in Steve Burton. Everything else is secondary, so the show's priorities are Bizarro World. That's why you get so many talented people sort of swimming about in limbo between the cracks getting B story, when Alexa, Jonathan, Becky, Dominic and Genie should be frontburner. Dominic and Alexa will have plenty of material with the Gio story shortly, I'm sure, which will provide angst and be a continued spoiler for the inevitable Lulu/Dante reunion. But it's still less about centering them and more about the fallout of this unnecessary story. I'm sure BLQ will not lack for airtime in her willow's weeds. That's why when you finally get to key reunions on this show in recent years, as Lulu/Dante or LNL2 inevitably will, they don't hit the way they could because the show either stalled it out or prioritized the wrong things.

There's lots of embarrassing things on GH, but the extended interlude of Brad at the gym talking to himself and his muscles was definitely in a league of its own. Sure. Half the main Black cast wasn't featured in today's special either, but oddly enough you are uniquely focused on the one white guy.

It amazes me that they recast Lucas with a daytime name (who would not have been my choice for the role, to be clear!) only to keep him on recurring and in a D-plot where he just... rehashes the same idiotic business with Brad that the show had already retired years ago. Like, why? I like Parry Shen and I am long since sick and tired of Brad and his nonsense. It's just embarrassing to watch.
