It's appalling. Even she was told not to pursue it because he had more money for lawyers than UCLA. I'm so angry for these women, for you and Chit and everyone who has had their careers tampered with or destroyed by these awful men. How many more powerful men have gotten away with the predatory behavior for decades. And while I do not feel sorry for Julie Chen and I think she has been a bad actor in all this, if she leaves him, she better watch her back. I wish her no harm, but this is the kind of guy that will turn on you in a heartbeat.

Damn. The corruption is so intertwined. The board appointed two law firms, Covington & Burling and Debevoise & Plimpton, to investigate the allegations against Moonves. A number of individuals whom the firms have asked to interview said that they were concerned about their independence, given the large amount of legal work they do for CBS. “If you knew how much money these firms were making from the mergers and acquisitions and the business side of CBS, there’s no way you’d think they’re impartial,” one former executive who occupied senior positions on the CBS and Viacom legal teams told me. (Representatives for both law firms declined to comment.)

I have no sympathy for Julie Chen. She knows what he is and if she doesn't, she's as dumb as dirt. But she does, clearly. I hope Leslie is prosecuted (but I doubt it). Maybe we can hope these women sue him for everything he has. What a relentless pig. There are obviously even more women who could come forward, since it was mentioned that several massage therapists complained to their boss about him. Lord knows how many victims he has. Hopefully, more will come forward and sure the f*ck out of him.

Sure, just having a father from Kenya and growing up in Hawaii made Obama more open in this way. Add to that having a world class education from an early age, being smart and having the opportunity to travel extensively. Now he's incredibly rich and belongs to the class of Americans who can basically live anywhere they want to. That's great for those people, all I'm saying is it's much easier to stay optimistic and grounded under those circumstances. I can only imagine what your mother went through. It's definitely an advantage to know that you can survive if you ever have to pick up and move again. I remember being on the bus in San Francisco with older Chinese ladies who were clearly immigrants. I was pretty sure I would not be able to adapt to Chinese culture the way they had to American. My main point is when your daily grind is in America, I think it's very hard to take the Age of Trump as a bad moment that will pass (which intellectually I believe it is, unless he nukes someone). When he does things like put children in concentration camps, yes, that keeps me up at night. Maybe it wouldn't if I were sipping coffee at a cafe in Paris or eating sushi in Tokyo every few months, but that's not my reality right now. I feel pretty immersed in 2018 America and it's ugly.

I had a similar thought awhile back when he said something like liberals need to stop losing sleep over what's happening here. That's much easier advise to give and follow when you can leave the country and take a wider perspective on a regular basis. Most of us can't do that either because of various obligations or money. If I didn't have two toddlers, I would definitely go to Europe or Asia a couple of times a year to save my sanity. Hell, even Canada might do the trick in a pinch.

What I don't understand is why the Republicans aren't packing the courts, especially SCOTUS. What is stopping them from making this move preemptively?

I can barely stand to hear Obama speak now. It's painful to be reminded how far we've fallen.

Oh, yes. I understood why. Let me rephrase: How dare that entitled SOB punish JJ for not groveling to him when she is the one who was wronged? That's the real kicker for me. She was exposed on national television! It's just unbelievable. At least JT was actually in the wrong even though it was an accident. It's clear that some of these "Masters of the universe" will go to any length to punish women who won't bend to their will". Probably not just women either. It sounds like this guy just can't stand to be defied and he has so much money and power he can really hound anyone who doesn't comply. Ronan Farrow was just saying how ordinary people don't understand the means these filthy rich men have to get revenge on people. After the Black Cube stuff with HW, I think we are starting to get the idea.

I really hope some of these women can successfully sue Les Moonves. Why did he feel entitled to an apology from Janet Jackson?? It happened to her. I'm glad she didn't grovel to that POS.

Me too. I was resigned to him surviving this at least for a few years, but I imagine there are more women. Aren't there always, especially when someone has had a career as long as LM. CBS probably didn't want to deal with the death by a thousand cuts. He was never really gone. I was watching this show called Better Things and his name popped up in the credits. He's not on it, so he must work behind the scenes. I like the show, so I was sorry to see he's involved with it.

This doesn't seem odd to me at all. It seems like business as usual. I can only hope that some of the women he's screwed with have enough evidence to file civil claim.

This! They get how absolutely awful and crazy this is and they are part of it. Yes! An attempt to act like they aren't culpable for helping keep this man in office. Plus, if you really are an underground resister, you keep your mouth shut. This person will eventually be outed and act like a hero and make money from the situation. It's disgusting on every level.

Yes. These terrible people feel entirely too comfortable launching these kinds of racists attacks. At this point it's impossible to be surprised. I'm sure he's getting death threats like that woman in Vermont.

Perhaps he should have said "real" chance. Still, in this type of high stakes scenario I'm not sure "good" is the wrong word. If someone said I had a 25% chance of winning the lotto tomorrow I would think that's a damn good chance. If it's really true that there is a 25% chance the cover up works, I find that pretty damn terrifying.

Is it really possible to put a reliable number on a scenario like this?
