I can just imagine some nut case spurred on my the likes of Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson or the like showing up at this woman's home to do her harm.

For whatever reason it has become politically incorrect in some circles to admit that sex really is at the root of these issues. I've never understood quite why. I agree with her though. To leave the sex out of the conversation is to be blinkered about the sexual psychopathology that can upend people’s lives. Abuse of power is indeed intrinsic to the Me Too stories. But power alone does not explain why a man would choose to masturbate into a potted plant in front of a horrified woman rather than have sex with a willing one. Only when we examine the sexual aspect of these violations will we understand fully what is going on—and how to address it.

I'm going to go ahead and admit that I don't think a person's nomination should be derailed based on one anonymous accusation. Of course there is no need to worry about that, since it inevitably takes at least double digits to get traction in these cases. Even then the perpetrator can become president. I imagine whomever this woman is some blogger will out her and death threats will ensue. I certainly do not blame her for wanting to come forward with her name because we all know what is in store if she does.

^ I hear you. I'd guess she assumed. My last word on the topic is I find it really hard to imagine AL crying over what LM said to whoever this was. This is something I was thinking last night about how far reaching LM's power was over our culture generally. I couldn't agree more that CBS needs an huge overhaul. I'm so thankful that network influence is fading. I'm a big believer in the power of services like Netflix to open doors for more women and POC.

Oh, I agree it's completely different. I just meant I agree with DD that we probably don't have all the info.

Probably. I think DD is right and we won't know unless the person comes forward. As for it being AL, I doubt it. Harassment is about power, but it's often about having sexual power over women these guys find attractive. If not, why aren't they doing it to men at the same rate? That said, I put nothing past these guys on a power trip.

^ Damn! I will admit that shocks the hell out of me, but I admit I was wrong. That really sucks and goes to prove women are never safe from these freaks. You hope that you'll get a break when you hit 60, but I guess even then they have to show us who's boss.

But on the opposite end so many of you entertained the idea that it could be Angela Lansbury. There is no way in hell that's the case. He married a woman 20 years younger than himself. He's the type of guy (like Trump) who thinks women over 30 are past it, I promise you. Maybe it says something bad about me that I believe that, but I prefer to think it says something of my very low opinion of Les. As for Tyne Daly, Les is also the kind of guy who has a "no fat chicks" bumper sticker on his dick. The one positive aspect of being a little larger than average is it tends to stop a large number of these jerks from bothering you (But not all! Oh no, no woman is that lucky). If it's not obvious, I speak from experience.

One of the worst people in DC and that's saying something.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
It's appalling. Even she was told not to pursue it because he had more money for lawyers than UCLA. I'm so angry for these women, for you and Chit and everyone who has had their careers tampered with or destroyed by these awful men. How many more powerful men have gotten away with the predatory behavior for decades. And while I do not feel sorry for Julie Chen and I think she has been a bad actor in all this, if she leaves him, she better watch her back. I wish her no harm, but this is the kind of guy that will turn on you in a heartbeat.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread

Now there is some good news! Looks like some of the money is going to #Metoo- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
Damn. The corruption is so intertwined. The board appointed two law firms, Covington & Burling and Debevoise & Plimpton, to investigate the allegations against Moonves. A number of individuals whom the firms have asked to interview said that they were concerned about their independence, given the large amount of legal work they do for CBS. “If you knew how much money these firms were making from the mergers and acquisitions and the business side of CBS, there’s no way you’d think they’re impartial,” one former executive who occupied senior positions on the CBS and Viacom legal teams told me. (Representatives for both law firms declined to comment.)- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
I have no sympathy for Julie Chen. She knows what he is and if she doesn't, she's as dumb as dirt. But she does, clearly. I hope Leslie is prosecuted (but I doubt it). Maybe we can hope these women sue him for everything he has. What a relentless pig. There are obviously even more women who could come forward, since it was mentioned that several massage therapists complained to their boss about him. Lord knows how many victims he has. Hopefully, more will come forward and sure the f*ck out of him.- The Politics Thread
Sure, just having a father from Kenya and growing up in Hawaii made Obama more open in this way. Add to that having a world class education from an early age, being smart and having the opportunity to travel extensively. Now he's incredibly rich and belongs to the class of Americans who can basically live anywhere they want to. That's great for those people, all I'm saying is it's much easier to stay optimistic and grounded under those circumstances. I can only imagine what your mother went through. It's definitely an advantage to know that you can survive if you ever have to pick up and move again. I remember being on the bus in San Francisco with older Chinese ladies who were clearly immigrants. I was pretty sure I would not be able to adapt to Chinese culture the way they had to American. My main point is when your daily grind is in America, I think it's very hard to take the Age of Trump as a bad moment that will pass (which intellectually I believe it is, unless he nukes someone). When he does things like put children in concentration camps, yes, that keeps me up at night. Maybe it wouldn't if I were sipping coffee at a cafe in Paris or eating sushi in Tokyo every few months, but that's not my reality right now. I feel pretty immersed in 2018 America and it's ugly.- The Politics Thread
I had a similar thought awhile back when he said something like liberals need to stop losing sleep over what's happening here. That's much easier advise to give and follow when you can leave the country and take a wider perspective on a regular basis. Most of us can't do that either because of various obligations or money. If I didn't have two toddlers, I would definitely go to Europe or Asia a couple of times a year to save my sanity. Hell, even Canada might do the trick in a pinch.- The Politics Thread
What I don't understand is why the Republicans aren't packing the courts, especially SCOTUS. What is stopping them from making this move preemptively?- The Politics Thread

I can barely stand to hear Obama speak now. It's painful to be reminded how far we've fallen.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
Oh, yes. I understood why. Let me rephrase: How dare that entitled SOB punish JJ for not groveling to him when she is the one who was wronged? That's the real kicker for me. She was exposed on national television! It's just unbelievable. At least JT was actually in the wrong even though it was an accident. It's clear that some of these "Masters of the universe" will go to any length to punish women who won't bend to their will". Probably not just women either. It sounds like this guy just can't stand to be defied and he has so much money and power he can really hound anyone who doesn't comply. Ronan Farrow was just saying how ordinary people don't understand the means these filthy rich men have to get revenge on people. After the Black Cube stuff with HW, I think we are starting to get the idea.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
I really hope some of these women can successfully sue Les Moonves. Why did he feel entitled to an apology from Janet Jackson?? It happened to her. I'm glad she didn't grovel to that POS.- Non-Hollywood Sexual Assault & Sexual Harassment

Me too. I was resigned to him surviving this at least for a few years, but I imagine there are more women. Aren't there always, especially when someone has had a career as long as LM. CBS probably didn't want to deal with the death by a thousand cuts. He was never really gone. I was watching this show called Better Things and his name popped up in the credits. He's not on it, so he must work behind the scenes. I like the show, so I was sorry to see he's involved with it.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
This doesn't seem odd to me at all. It seems like business as usual. I can only hope that some of the women he's screwed with have enough evidence to file civil claim. - The Politics Thread
