  1. ^ He's disgusting. Meanwhile this thread:
  2. Another thing that isn't surprising. The death threats and harassment are so bad CBF and her family had to flee their home. https://www.yahoo.com/news/brett-kavanaugh-accuser-christine-blasey-153135511.html
  3. Of course you would because you are a good person. It's always the people who would never listen to that kind of advice that really need it.
  4. It really would be smart to cut bait. The Republicans don't have much to lose except this public relations nightmare. No surprise here: Good idea, I believe I'll follow you on that.
  5. The way that woman was treated will always be a shameful moment in history. I was in 11th grade and far from "woke". I was raised by evangelicals to believe it was always the woman's fault and men couldn't control themselves. Even so, I understood that Anita was being bullied and dragged through the mud and that she was telling the truth. Her honesty and poise in the face of that debacle really did shine through the muck. Now the idea of a bunch of white men grilling and judging a black woman in that way just makes me sick. We need more women and more people of color in Congress and I can only pray that happens in November. And to be clear I don't hate white men (I'm raising one). They should be just as much a part of our government as everyone else, but not control it all, as they have for far too long.
  6. That's one of the reasons I think Marceline was right to suspect he's a troll. When you really want to debate an issue, you counter the other persons arguments. He just ignores them and keeps on with his script. His last couple of posts make it pretty clear to me he's just trolling us.
  7. Again, look in the mirror. Ellison's accuser said she had evidence. Then she didn't produce it. That produces a credibility issue. Kavanaugh's accuser hasn't done that. See the difference there? Perhaps you are too brainwashed by Fox to get it? It's becoming more obvious with each post you make that you are a time wasting troll. You're a little better at it them some of the others that have come to this board, but that last post really tipped your hand. Try harder.
  8. There's no need for that. He had a tremendous amount of power in the film industry at one time and he absolutely should have tried to lift other people up and give them representation. Woody seems like the kind of guy that is most concerned about Woody. What kind of person drags up their daughter's allegations just to do damage control for their own reputation? Because one thing we know beyond a shadow of a doubt is that one of these parents deeply damaged their daughter when she was four (Ronan was the six year old) years old. If he's the innocent party, I'm not seeing a lot of compassion for what Mia put her through when she was practically a baby.
  9. Well, yes. I admit, I do find molesting one's six (?) year old child much more outrageous than not having a diverse cast in your movies. That goes for grooming your wife's daughter as well (Soon Yi was never his step daughter, I'll give him that). One makes you a criminal, one makes you a creep and the other makes you a racist jerk. They are not the same in degrees of harm. The waters are muddy enough that we will never really know what happened. Woody was in therapy because he had an inappropriate fascination with Dylan's body, that's pretty sick. The judge in the case though Dylan was not safe with Woody. Those are things we seem to know for sure. What I don't understand is why Woody and Soon Yi dredged this up again? Nothing Mia did changes what Woody did (or didn't do). It seems like a deflection, but to what end? It's not like Woody has been sidelined in any real way and needs a comeback. Also, f*ck Shawn Penn.
  10. Yes. The death threats and rape threats will follow, of course. I feel badly for her. I'd say her first instinct was probably right and it would have been in her personal best interest not to tell.
  11. Referring to an accusation of attempted rape as "theatrics" is certainly shameful. You don't even know what the allegation is, but by all means continue to try to school the rest of us. Trying to push this guy through without a fair hearing is certainly cowardly. What's the rush? Afraid more women will come forward or more details about his finances? But then the Republicans wouldn't even give President Obama's nominee a hearing, so your own hypocrisy speaks loud and clear. Maybe look in the mirror before making a fool of yourself and coming across as a misogynist. As for Ellison, show the video and I'll happily see him ousted, but let's not pretend head of a political party is the same as being a SCOTUS. It's a ridiculous comparison, but then all you have to grasp at is straws. Good luck with that.
  12. She gave her husband's victims the finger. Screw CBS, they would have kept him if they dared.
  13. I hope so. As Vee said, maybe the culmination of these issues (Puerto Rico, child internment camps, trade wars) will keep Republicans home. I'm going to have to believe it to see it this time around though.
  14. Sadly, I agree. Why does anyone believe this? We had video tape of 45 bragging about grabbing women. I doubt two years later the country will rise up due to a SCOTUS nominee.
  15. I believe her. Also, this makes me sick, especially when you add in POTUS and his long list of sexual assaults and harassment.
  16. I can just imagine some nut case spurred on my the likes of Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson or the like showing up at this woman's home to do her harm.
  17. For whatever reason it has become politically incorrect in some circles to admit that sex really is at the root of these issues. I've never understood quite why. I agree with her though. To leave the sex out of the conversation is to be blinkered about the sexual psychopathology that can upend people’s lives. Abuse of power is indeed intrinsic to the Me Too stories. But power alone does not explain why a man would choose to masturbate into a potted plant in front of a horrified woman rather than have sex with a willing one. Only when we examine the sexual aspect of these violations will we understand fully what is going on—and how to address it.
  18. I'm going to go ahead and admit that I don't think a person's nomination should be derailed based on one anonymous accusation. Of course there is no need to worry about that, since it inevitably takes at least double digits to get traction in these cases. Even then the perpetrator can become president. I imagine whomever this woman is some blogger will out her and death threats will ensue. I certainly do not blame her for wanting to come forward with her name because we all know what is in store if she does.
  19. ^ I hear you. I'd guess she assumed. My last word on the topic is I find it really hard to imagine AL crying over what LM said to whoever this was. This is something I was thinking last night about how far reaching LM's power was over our culture generally. I couldn't agree more that CBS needs an huge overhaul. I'm so thankful that network influence is fading. I'm a big believer in the power of services like Netflix to open doors for more women and POC.
  20. Oh, I agree it's completely different. I just meant I agree with DD that we probably don't have all the info.
  21. Probably. I think DD is right and we won't know unless the person comes forward. As for it being AL, I doubt it. Harassment is about power, but it's often about having sexual power over women these guys find attractive. If not, why aren't they doing it to men at the same rate? That said, I put nothing past these guys on a power trip.
  22. ^ Damn! I will admit that shocks the hell out of me, but I admit I was wrong. That really sucks and goes to prove women are never safe from these freaks. You hope that you'll get a break when you hit 60, but I guess even then they have to show us who's boss.
  23. But on the opposite end so many of you entertained the idea that it could be Angela Lansbury. There is no way in hell that's the case. He married a woman 20 years younger than himself. He's the type of guy (like Trump) who thinks women over 30 are past it, I promise you. Maybe it says something bad about me that I believe that, but I prefer to think it says something of my very low opinion of Les. As for Tyne Daly, Les is also the kind of guy who has a "no fat chicks" bumper sticker on his dick. The one positive aspect of being a little larger than average is it tends to stop a large number of these jerks from bothering you (But not all! Oh no, no woman is that lucky). If it's not obvious, I speak from experience.
  24. One of the worst people in DC and that's saying something.
