I swear, it's always the biggest losers who start talking about a "master race". They have nothing else going for them, so they need to believe that.

^ Yes, we do. I know voter suppression has always been a problem, but seeing it happen live is so enraging. It's not a party issue to me, even though we all know it's usually rich white Republicans trying to repress the non white vote. And this is the most sickening case that I know of in this cycle. The blatant corruption should not be allowed to stand. I don't know how anyone values democracy can be happy about this.

I agree. I think he might have been a good high profile lawyer, but he ruined his own chances at that.

I was hoping he would harangue Trump for the next 2 years. Oh well. Hopefully, his ex will recover and get in line to sue his ass.

^ The increase in hate crimes is both disturbing and predictable. It was so obvious that a vote for Trump was a vote for hate. It's sad to think that people are so easily led down the wrong path, but we know from both history and social science that it's true. People can be led to unleash their worst selves by a bad leader. We have got to get ride of him ASAP. Meanwhile, I do wonder what the numbers would be if we took out the hundreds of calls that Israeli Jewish boy made to JCCs. Should it count if the person who made the calls has a mental disorder and belongs to the very group he's threatening? Maybe it should, I'm no expert, but I do feel a little bit better knowing that these statistics The FBI released its annual report on hate crime statistics yesterday. The overall number of hate crimes in 2017 was up 17 percent from 2016, with a 37 percent rise in crimes targeting Jews and Jewish institutions, which was highlighted by the ADL. Last year, 938 anti-Semitic incidents were reported, up from 684 incidents in 2016. were driven in part by someone who couldn't follow through without getting on a plane.

Of all the self serving decision Amazon could have made this takes the cake. Why on earth did they need to choose two of the most expensive rental markets? Well yeah, I know why, but it still makes me sad when I think of the gentrification and housing crunch this will cause. Why not choose places where there is actual land to expand? I suppose Nashville fits that bill, but choosing NYC is just eye roll worthy. Neither NYC nor Virginia/DC should be paying a penny to Amazon.

It seems that way, but it's not a done deal. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-is-preparing-to-remove-kirstjen-nielsen-as-homeland-security-secretary-aides-say/2018/11/12/77111496-e6b0-11e8-bbdb-72fdbf9d4fed_story.html?utm_term=.9133853f21d9 Hopefully this will be an indictment Friday.

So true. Then it looks like they are getting rid of the head of Homeland Security as well. It's not like I have any sympathy for people who choose to work for this administration. I sure don't, but the instability is alarming. I guess we just have to hope that there is someone still there who is in on the plan to tackle 45 before he tries to nuke anyone. 🙃

This administration is so unstable. Well, in more ways than one, but they just cannot keep people. https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/13/politics/melania-trump-mira-ricardel/index.html He needs to do every minute of that sentence. One of the saddest parts to me is that the shooter is a retired firefighter.

As much as people criticize Netanyahu, he never really goes for the jugular in Gaza the way he could. I'm glad for that, but as an American it's not a mindset I really understand. It's also impossible for me to imagine our military "warning" people before they hit a physical target so civilians can evacuate.

They do deserve to be punished in some way, but the adults in this country have seriously let them down. They live in a country where the actual leader has encouraged white nationalism and calls himself a nationalist. We have teachers wearing "wall" costumes. Then we punish young people for responding to this toxic environment. I see people saying this should follow them for the rest of their lives and they should never get into college. Ok, but this nation gave the most important job in the country to a white nationalist. I feel like I'm living in bizzaro world sometimes.

^ Right, we tried that and we know it doesn't work, but statistics do seem to indicate that making 21 the drinking age does help. In other news, no surprise, but it's always nice to have more evidence.

It's so strange to think this happened only 80 years ago. Also strange to think that AM won't be leading Germany much longer. I would argue that 18 year olds are intellectually capable of understanding the issues involved in voting. That's so different from seeing the consequences of drinking. Even many older adults can't or won't do that. I've known more than one person far over the age of 18 who claim to be better drivers after they've had a few. So damn stupid. Also, voting is a constitutional right. Drinking is not. To me the closer one is driving itself. In some states a 15 year old can drive. When you think of all the judgments drivers make every day, I find it terrifying that people under the age of 18 (and over the age of 80) are out there doing it everyday. The self driving car revolution cannot come soon enough for me.

@Khan I'm not seeing the connection between the drinking age and the voting age. Why would we change the voting age? I don't see the benefit to life or health that would come from that?

Well, it certainly did reduce the amount of drunk driving going on. I'm not saying it's good to send 18 year olds off to war, but I'd rather have them trying to kill our enemies in a war, then kill me on the highway. https://drugfree.org/learn/drug-and-alcohol-news/drunk-driving-crashes-reduced-since-drinking-age-was-raised-to-21-study/

As it almost has here, since Trump is arguably a right wing populist. I agree with some of the ideas behind leftist populism, but really, has it ever turned out well?
