Yes. Me too. It's sickening. Plus blatant cheaters still win and there is so much corruption. One thing about 2018 is you can't hide the dirt as well anymore. We could all see these cheaters and their voter suppression tactics in real time. Hopefully, the people with power can do something about that in 2020.

^ Yes, I do relish getting rid of some of the worst ones. I also celebrate some of the firsts, even though I don't agree with all of their positions. There were some real victories last night. I was seriously worried that the elections would be hacked, so in the big picture it's a relief to me that doesn't seem to have happened. I remember as a child my mother telling me that felons lost their right to vote with the implication that this was the way it was and the way it should be. It's not something I questioned much until the last few years. I didn't realize it was rooted in Jim Crow either. Anyway, I'm glad Florida restored people's votes because it seems to me that once people do their time they should have their rights back. Closer to home, I'm thrilled and amazed that Kara Eastman came within three points of Don Bacon. Carl, this tells me that you were right and a more progressive candidate can motivate people to come out, more than trying to play to the center. Plus Nebraskans voted to expand Medicaid for all, which I did not expect to happen.

I think Stacy Abrams is the race I'm saddest about. Injustice truly prevailed in Georgia. Steve King is disgusting. Kara Eastman came pretty close for Nebraska all things considered, but I never really believed she could do it.

Yeah, me too. Like every group out there, white women are not a monolith. Expecting Republican white women to vote for democrats is to be disappointed. That's a lesson I took to heart in 2016. They have a very different world view from Democratic white women. Sure, some small part of me hoped that seeing children in internment camps would be a breaking point, but deep down I knew it wouldn't. No, you didn't at all. For tonight I'm just going to be thankful for the victory. I think there are some pitfalls ahead, but maybe we can hope this is the beginning of the end for that awful man.

I see your point, but I meant a chance to stop the creeping fascism. I understand that not everyone thinks that's what's happening, of course. Beyond that I am very thankful to have a check on Trump when it comes to day to day business.

I agree. If we had lost we would have been well and truly sunk. This at least gives us a chance.

@Khan 🙂 Dare we hope?

I agree with you, especially when you see the severity of the voter suppression in real time. I'll be happy for whatever check that we get on this administration. Also there were some real wins tonight. Having the first Muslim woman and the first Native American women elected to congress are real achievements for those candidates and the people that elected them.

We're in the same boat, but we did what we could.

I will take any victory we can get. Looks like Mitch is a little confused, luckily there was someone to set him straight.

I hear that. She's just so much better than he is in every way. Plus he tried to cheat every which way. I voted about half an hour ago and there was a decent sized line. I brought a cheat sheet the democrats sent out and several people wanted to look at it (some of the races here are technically nonpartisan). There were a lot of women in line.

Yes. Let's just hope that we can at least make it better before 2020.- The Politics Thread
^ That's great news. The times are so random. Would it hurt someone to make it 7:15?- The Politics Thread
🤣 Once in awhile the universe just gives us this kind of gift. It just proves that SA is right and this man is completely incompetent.- The Politics Thread
This really is outrageous and a sign of how corrupt things are.- The Politics Thread

😂 It's the least of what they deserve. Really they need to be kicked to the curb. These people should not have a position of power in our democracy. I hope you feel better soon though Khan. Those numbers posted above about the uptick in first time voters seems like very good news to me. All of those numbers concerning turn out look good. Fingers crossed for the results.- The Politics Thread
Think of it as a massive **** you to everyone trying to suppress the black vote today. It's just insane watching this illegal, immoral behavior in real time. If democrats are ever in charge again we have to get this under control. Human decency demands it. I expect to have a similar experience later this afternoon. It's how it should be for everyone.- The Politics Thread
Good lord, there are some nuts out there. Stacey Abrams needs some good security if she wins. And yeah, I would love few things more than seeing Don Jr. indicted.- The Politics Thread

The idea that some of these Republicans are going to lose because of Trump's hateful rhetoric fills me with joy. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Most of them have been silent and complicit because he was getting them what they wanted.- The Politics Thread
^ That's good news. I'm pretty hopefully about tomorrow. I'm glad the wait is almost over.- The Politics Thread
Right. In the big picture, I do worry that the hate is going to continue to build the longer he's in power. Did you see those teachers in Idaho who came to school dressed as "The Wall" for Halloween? I know it's Idaho, but when actual teachers are doing this kind of $hit, it is very disheartening.- The Politics Thread
I wonder if this will backfire just enough to lose tomorrow. Far too many people are on board with his message, but I don't think they have the majority. I may be wrong, but I don't think most people like the way the country has changed over the last two (but really three) years. - The Politics Thread
