I imagine the GOP will makes these types of insinuations, but they will do that with anyone who supports equality. The alternative is for Democrats to go back to reminding us how anti-gay they are. I agree with you the GOP is going to come up with a smear. They had incredibly vile smears against Biden, including claims that he abused his daughter. I don't think they ever reached the public in any meaningful way (just as the Tara Reade claims never did), but they probably still see it as a win and are plotting for more. Beyond the usual I remember some people who took issue with some claims she made about her bio - I think she may have claimed she caught a baby and saved it from death...and she also claimed to be a faith healer who laid hands on a child, causing him to be able to walk, and laid hands on another person, causing their tumors to shrink.

How many decades have they had that blazer in the back of the wardrobe?

B&B: Character Recast!
To be honest, I always thought Budig looked older than her age, but this is still ludicrous casting. I can't imagine what Taylor fans must feel as it's clear Brad Bell has zero value for the character. If they're going to hire AMC actresses who are too young for the part, why not just cast Alicia Minshew? Is she still acting?

It's funny you mention Ferrell and Sudeikis as Lorne Michaels, or maybe NBC, have some kind of policy about male cast members not being allowed to have mustaches or beards. The last who did were Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. One reason may be all the wigs and makeup, but I would guess a big reason is down to the question of sleaze. When mustaches made something of a comeback in recent years, the line was they were now for hipsters. One of the only politicians I've seen of late sporting one is a Republican running for the Senate in Wisconsin. On him, it's a porn look, although I guess fascist porn is a kink for many. When it comes to ATWT, other than Brad, I mostly associate mustaches with: - characters who were mostly off the show by that point (Duke in his last return, and Cal Stricklyn while he was dating Susan) - John, who probably got away with it because he was out of the romantic leading men stage (even if he had some very strong stories at that time) - and of course, above all else, this absolute beauty:

GH: Casting Call for "Lauren" ⏤ Code for Lulu Recast?
I thought she was OK as Lizzie - they had made the character so dark when she was younger, and had also gone too far with Philip, that having a lighter but still scheming touch made some sense. It's not as if the Spauldings were a very dynamic family by that point. Rylan had a certain spark at times, even with Daniel Cosgrove. Abby and Lulu are both dead end roles no matter who is in them. The best Lulu was the girl with the brown hair who was mute for about 8 years. Julie Marie Berman was just unwatchable and unbearably smug, and Rylan was...there. Given the state of most women on modern GH, I don't expect much better here, although ideally, she will manage to find a balance between being asleep and being a huge, entitled bitch. That is very rare with the show now though.

I suppose he could deliver for people who are afraid of voting for a black woman, although those people probably won't vote for her anyway. He will possibly be able to offset the socialist claims as he looks like Santa Claus sans beard. I tend to agree he's a safe choice, even as some insist he's a radical (the people who are already insisting they would only have voted for her if she'd chosen "moderate" Kelly or Shapiro come off as liars to me). Or people claiming she caved to anti-Semitism, etc. She didn't really pick anyone who is going to spread a fire, but he does seem like he could be a good backup to her and ideally won't do anything to dampen momentum.

Thanks again @Vee I know there will be a number of negative optics (more George Floyd/BLM rehashing from the ghouls on the right, Walz looking older than some would think for 60, people trying to make hay of his military service, etc.) but I do think he's a better pick than Shapiro (I don't buy "what about PA" - if she is that close to losing PA she's going to have a very hard time anyway) and very possibly Kelly too, a very honorable man with a great resume who I don't think was up to a grueling and ugly campaign (and Arizona is going to be a tough get, plus his Senate seat would be hard to hold). I would have gone with Andy Beshear but that was probably never a real possibility. No, Walz probably wasn't needed for Minnesota, but I think he could be good ticket balance and as long as he doesn't overdo do it like they had Tim Kaine do in the 2016 debate, he'd be a good fighter and source of energy. I'm already seeing some Democrats compare him to Pence, which is odd, but Pence was a massive help to Trump in 2016, much as I feared and disliked the man. Another positive is that the likes of Damon Linker and Megan McArdle are upset.

Thanks @Vee I guess we'll know soon enough. So many headcases supporting RFK Jr in that tweet. I guess I should be surprised he doesn't have even more. He is a truly sick man.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Sorry about that. If you click on the MPEG4 button on the right side of the page it can take you to a version that is easier to watch (and you can download it). Carrie I think was mostly just there for the story about Jim's past. Dan was around for longer. He is eventually killed off while dating Ann, apparently, per the Loving recap site. Here's a profile on Carrie. https://lovingsoapopera.wordpress.com/2023/09/29/character-profile-carrie-davis/

I agree. I suppose I can say it's equality on display as a number of straight male legacy characters have also been trashed in the last few years, but the Sugdens deserve better treatment. They are what built the show.

https://www.dailystar.co.uk/tv/strictlys-kelvin-fletcher-risks-tv-20325676 I imagine there's more - I haven't seen his account in a long time. I remember he and John Bowe saying a lot on the topics back when they were on the show. I agree Diane should make a brief appearance at the very least, if the show has any interest in John being anything but another of Aaron's corpses.

I don't think he wants to (and given his political views I'm not sorry). I do miss Diane, but she barely ever seemed to have ties to Robert in his last stint. I do wish they'd bring her back long enough to at least meet John.

There are probably worse moments but I saw this one - a great example of the sneering Beltway mentality.

That's a nice idea. If they cared, they would have a brief return by Joe while Frazer is still with us. Even just a ghost visit.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Phaedra is good TV in limited doses but being a regular I don't know about. I watched some of the Traitors this past season, and again, she had fun moments, but I couldn't watch a lot of it because she felt very bitter and toxic, including making some extremely ugly allegations about a competitor just because he went against her in the game.

To be honest I don't think he's ugly at all - I think the show just set him up badly, both with a horribly written character and expecting him to have charisma he didn't have. Having Melinda go on about how sexy he is and he's the hottest man ever doesn't help. Beyond most of them not knowing or caring about past history, my guess is producers and executives also wanted as little as possible. I was surprised they even remembered Jennifer or brought her back at that late date.

Eileen is an extremely cold performer. The antithesis of what Kelly should have been.

I do wonder if Eileen has any positive memories of her time there - maybe she just associates herself with Y&R. I think Carrington may have auditioned for Mindy Lewis at one point, but I might be mixing her up.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I remember Susan Bedsow Horgan not remembering some of her ATWT decisions when interviewed. I suppose it's inevitable, especially with material from 30, 40 years ago. Probably the only way they might is if they sit down and watch the episodes with their names on them, and how many writers are going to do that? At least Nancy Curlee did a bit for Locher Room.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
@NothinButAttitude Here's when Curtis meets Rick. @dc11786 As always, I enjoy reading your breakdown/commentary of the period. I agree with you about the generic nature of the material (which is often an issue with Loving in the '80s). I wish more of the material Lily had after the affair reveal was available, where she worked at the shelter, to see if that touched on her past. As it is she is just a generic schemer, and Britt Hefler is a competent but not very dynamic actress. I agree about not being into all the stuff about Jim's past. I don't mind Jim, even if he wasn't the most dynamic of characters, but it's all so convoluted (and too reliant on offcamera backstory) and I don't think Mark Pinter had the charisma for the role he was put in. The most interesting element for me was the torture scenes with the double agent. That guy had a presence. They should have considered putting him into the regular cast. I also agree the Ava and Clay material was the standout. Roya is just enthralling to watch. Yes, her Ava was another Erica, but she makes the character compelling in her own right, and Clay/Alex was a more dynamic love interest than Erica tended to get. The added elements of her history with the Alden family help.

Thanks @SoapDope for the clip. The poor quality of these last few clips gives them a real horror vibe. That deeply sad scene with Betsy and Melinda in the previous clip followed by her going back into the main living room of house that looked like it was rotting away. It's very difficult to watch. I suppose it was just too easy for future writers to not mention Melinda, as she was only on for a few years and never had any truly substantial story with Kim or Barbara. Similar to why Maggie was never mentioned (even though Cricket had a few mentions over the years).
