  1. Thanks so much @Paul Raven I had heard the drunk quotes but not the rest of the article. I appreciate how much detail she goes into about how the soaps helped her (just another reason New York soaps being gone have done such damage to the industry). The story about how she connected with her grief when playing the death of Nola's mother only for the performance to look horrible onscreen is really fascinating. Did any of you see those scenes? What did you think of them? Was she suggesting she quit the role of Nola? I thought she was let go. I can't remember. Seeing her on Lemay-era AW would have been interesting.
  2. I'm not getting any error messages at the moment either. I still can't log in on Edge and I should probably just give up on trying. At least I can on Chrome.
  3. Thanks @Paul Raven I really enjoyed this article. A look at such a world gone by for soaps. I love the fan who said she lost interest in Nat Polen after he left ATWT. An example of that very specific soap or network loyalty which you don't have now, for obvious reasons. I didn't even remember that Lloyd's soap career started so long before GL. I also love the excitement at meeting Walter Cronkite. That tour sounds great. I wish I'd been on it.
  4. A recent interview with Lisa Brenner (the final Maggie Cory). She doesn't seem to say much about AW.
  5. She probably could have passed.
  6. At the time Obrecht was meant to be a villain, but Ron and Frank fell in love with her.
  7. An episode preview around 6 minutes with comments from Jack Wagner. @Vee There's also a bit near the start about Noah Wyle and Peter Berg onstage together. @DaytimeFan Right after the Melrose segment they have a nice segment with Loni Anderson reacting to an old commercial of herself. ET: HOWARD STERN, DEAN CAIN, LONI ANDERSON DEC 7 1995 SUPERMAN - YouTube
  8. The early episodes tend to be the episodes from these franchises I find most interesting as they weren't as scripted.
  9. Reading this just breaks my heart. Here's an interview with Amanda about her guest stint. When Amanda Blake Joined The Cast Of Edge Of Night (1984) | Formerly Miss Kitty on Gunsmoke
  10. I agree that Hagman and the others had it out for her. I think with time and distance - I might have kept Miss Ellie away for an entire season - viewers could have moved on. But there still wasn't enough of a gap, the show wasn't really strong enough to weather the change, and I think there was just something special about Barbara and the contrast she provided to the rest of the canvas (especially to JR) which was extremely difficult to replace. It's too bad Julie Harris was already on Knots by this time as I think she could have made a good replacement.
  11. Thanks for the extra info.
  12. Any time I see JPL as Philip I just think of Ron's stable - he is nothing like what I see the character as being, if he is still a character. I said this in another thread already but I also think if you are going play up the character being in his old uniform, keeping that long, greasy hair and stubble is a very questionable choice.

Thanks @dc11786 I've read about the '80s Crossroads but barely watched beyond Meg's exit as it feels like the show moves further away from what made viewers care. You as always make me more compelled to watch these programs. I think they only brought Amy back because they had dumped some of the last longtime characters, not in the best of ways either.
  14. Most of their soap episodes I've never seen on Youtube before (not all but most), so this may be another. Wiki says 15 episodes survive so maybe this is one of those 15. (I don't know if they had a record or if they had just found 15 on Youtube over the years).
  15. I must have been on a break from seeing fandom craziness at this time as this one is new to me. I'm glad the show didn't go there. I guess at least the actresses weren't being sent death threats...
  16. Thanks! I looked around everywhere and I think this one is new...?
  17. I know they would be a culture shock but if you haven't seen any '60s or '70s episodes I hope you can try those. To me '60 to about '94 is the peak of Corrie.
  18. I tend to agree, but I do wonder if NLG was worried she was about to be fired. Alexis was in a real hole during those years. Having one of Sonny's kids (and I think this was actually Sonny's first biological child to survive) was great insurance.
  19. I think the biggest failing for Search was what CBS and P&G let happen to it in the immediate aftermath of the Corringtons leaving. From the CBS cancelation, it was just a matter of time. The show did need a lot of work during the NBC run but they did well to run for nearly 5 years. If not for Brian Frons it may have even run a little longer.
  20. I'm putting the other Knots promo in the primetime soaps thread.
  21. Funny how they have that yet also an allusion to coming out of the closet. This is one of the more interesting soap promos for that reason. Maybe he should have moved to Corinth and saved Lorna from the stories that wrote her off the show.
  22. I agree the show only seemed to care about adoption being more important than blood ties with Alan and Philip. Maybe if they had ever brought Elizabeth back the same would have been the case with her, but Marland didn't seem to have a great deal of interest in Alan's role there either. You could say this is because he wanted Alan to be focused on the fling with Rita and rebuilding his marriage, but Philip still could have been involved. They could have even have Hope resent Philip because she feels like Alan cares more about him than about Alan-Michael. I can see why the story could have been too convoluted for him to want to continue, but it never plays out that way to me in the available episodes. That may have changed after Cindy Pickett's exit, but even then, a continued focus on Philip would still seem more compelling to me than writing him out so Justin/Jackie could be catspaw in the Carrie story (which I find much more confusing than anything with Philip).
