  1. From the bits I've watched (not a ton), Taylor Sheridan reminds me more of Falcon Crest, just because those shows obsess over the land, the land, the land, even if they are much more male-dominated. Characters take a backseat. Dallas was all about the high-profile caricatures - that's what sold the show around the world. I was watching some Kenny Everett parodies of Dallas. They weren't very good, but they were a window into what the British audience saw the show as being. Evil JR, pathetic melodramatic Sue Ellen, Pamela and her bosom, etc. I think that's what would hurt a revival most. Everything is so dreary now. Even shows we hear breathless hype about being current and today, like Euphoria, actually have a lineup that is deadly dull, underneath all the Sam Levinson preening.
  2. I still wonder how much of GH's remaining audience is white, conservative women, even by the standards of other networks.
  3. I was going to lambaste Cidre for killing Pam until I saw that they had already given her a terminal illness near the end of the original show. What a stupid, pointless decision. Given how dreary anything I saw of the Dallas revival was, I imagine even if Victoria had returned, Pam's return would have just been more of the same. This is one of those occasions where I genuinely think cheesy fan films would have been better than the reboot.
  4. Stephen Nichols could have been great, although I might have said the same about him on Y&R...
  5. RIP Ann Robinson, who was on DAYS in 1978 as Bobbie Jeannine Anderman. Ann Robinson Dead: 'War of the Worlds' Star Was 96
  6. Thanks @Paul Raven I wish some of those early episodes could appear. Even one. This negative review shows how risky the strategy was of having the first weeks or months of ATWT so much about setting up relationships and characters. Yet in the long run this was hugely important to bringing in viewers and keeping them loyal for decades.

That's what seems to be said in the video, yes.
  8. To be honest I thought we'd already be there. The soaps have held up more than I had expected, but not in any way which does right by most of the non-white/heterosexual characters.
  9. Wasn't he also supposedly going to be Rita's son at one time? Or was that a rumor? I get the idea of having another son for Alan, but I don't know if any story of note happened. Any rivalry with Philip probably wasn't that interesting. And Rafe, Alan's only biological grandchild, was, while not horrible, not memorable either.
  10. @slick jones Thanks so much. Amazing if we know who played Trudy. For years there were claims that was Helen Wagner, which it clearly wasn't.

@Maxim I thought you'd be interested in this. I never knew of the film's history or impact.
  12. Thanks @slick jones I will always remember Remsen for Daddy's Dyin. I had no idea about his accident.
  13. It does look like him. I remember thinking he looked cute back when I watched Big Business a lot. Nice to see him again if that is him.
  14. @safe Thanks! I'm glad to know the episode is around. Maybe someone can put it on Internet Archive eventually.
  15. I forgot about him returning. I really liked Tom on ATWT. As time passed he seemed to get some of the blame for the mess the show made with Kirk, but I thought he always did his best, and had a unique style on an increasingly generic program. I liked him on GL too. A shame they didn't keep the character.
  16. That was the only thing I knew it from for a very long time. The Weekend Update segment (which they had to apologize for) is hilarious.
  17. I haven't watched Widow's Bay, the new Apple TV show starring the always wonderful Matthew Rhys, but I saw some fans mentioning a few DS connections. Beyond Widow's Bay/Widow's Hill, the local pub is also called the Barnabas Tavern.
  18. The show seems like kind of a mess under Marland too, although things got even worse with Long. I'm not sure the show was ever as ugly backstage again as it seemed to be in her run.
  19. I would be more excited about more Sugdens if they hadn't just invented a long-lost son of Jack's solely to make him a serial killer and fodder for Robron. I don't know how you can say Kim and Joe are surrogate mother and son as they hate each other and have repeatedly betrayed each other.
  20. Thanks @alwaysAMC for all of your recaps. I've been reading through the last month of your entries. I had forgotten they set up so many convoluted ties with the Santos family and San Cristobel. I can't imagine Danny and Edmund as being friendly (maybe when Danny was meant to be bad), or Edmund being wild and fun. Michelle knowing Josh and Reva all her life. I mean...I guess... I was annoyed at the time that they had Buzz going to England because of Jenna's roots, and her (offcamera) family being involved, when a big part of her backstory was that she had a very unhappy upbringing and never even felt she had a family. They badly miscast Bill if they wanted to present him as intelligent. Ryan Brown was one of the dullest himbos ever on any soap. You're right about Annie's exit. There should have been more story on just why Lizzie would obsess over her so much beyond Beth being a terrible mother. I didn't realize how blatantly India was shoved into Alan's story. Alan telling Philip how wonderful he is...eh... I had forgotten Jesse Soffer was the first Max. He would go on to have a popular run on ATWT, and primetime work. One of the reasons Paul Wesley was likely cast is because he had been in the final month or two of Another World. I wonder if someone at the show belatedly realized they skipped the 4th. Or one of the few remaining traditionalists at P&G stepped in.
