July 11, 200619 yr Member Everytime I watch the opening for GH, I have to cringe at the ending w/ just the male cast members. Maybe they weren't trying to come across as sexist, but I definitely get the vibe...especially coming from the soap that has a mafia run the town. I can't believe they haven't taped an all female one to alternate with. That is a clear sign of who receives respect and who doesn't.
July 11, 200619 yr Member I think it's because McT's latest rewrite, aka, Erica's Walking Abortion so upset the long-term viewers that they protested en masse in letters and postcards. I don't know if the GH fans are as organized about one crappy storyline in particular. ITA, I think even though they went through with the fetus crap (god knows why) it was still her undoing. I know for a fact that the fans came this|close to getting AMC to change directions, so the blacklash was intense. MMT obviously screwed up whatever second or third chance she was given after they decided to bring Jeff on. I'd love to know what it was. Lol, but yes, I think ultimately Josh was her undoing. As for Guza, he's horrible, yep. But for all the mans fualts, he has yet to do something as boneheaded as MMT did with Josh. He has spit in the face of GH history, sure. But he hasn't completely desimated it on the level MMT has. With Josh, what I saw at least online, was fanbase politics being put aside to fight for that storyline, to fight to save AMC from the crap. Maybe if the GH fans banded together, and fought as a cohesive unit, someone would finally listen? I hope for the GH fans, I no longer am one....that Guza is next on Fronsie's hit list.
July 11, 200619 yr Member I read that they did film one with both the males and females, but of course they chose the male one
July 11, 200619 yr Member GH decimated a number of characters. Killed some off. Did some horrendous damage to all kinds of characters & stories. Nothing was as bad as that Laura in the attic/Rick Webber travesty. Actually that beats any other show's worst ever as the all-time awful. It was probably even worse than the re-rape of Erica Kane which in my book is much, much worse than this latest AMC stunt- bad as that is. But besides the mob, which never seemed to be either the whole problem or perhaps the real problem (many other shows have done mob much better including previous GH writers)--- Shooting Carly in the head during childbirth was something else. The bizarre (but possibly well-intended) Heather Webber story ended up doing major damage to Heather and Luke & a bunch of history. The entire Quartermaine family has been hacked away at little by little. Yes, it's better now than it was when Pratt was there. But it's got a long way to go before it could be called good.
July 11, 200619 yr Member GH got a thumbs down in the new SOD for all the characters they've killed off this year, it was too much: Tony, Courtney, Jesse, and now Justus. I agree, been too much death on GH this year
July 11, 200619 yr Member Its weird how people are finding the show better now without Pratt bc I think its at its absolute worst its been all year. I actually fell asleep while watching today's show. Im this close to dropping the show and will tape it only to FF to Lorenzo and Anna scenes. Everything else is pure and utter crap
July 11, 200619 yr Member I'm gonna go with Ryan Chandler on this one. GH is, as of late, immensely watchable. Even though I don't like the way some of the stories have gone - such as Justus' sudden murder - the episode surrounding Edward's guilt was incredible. Little things like that have been popping up more and more and I really like it.
July 11, 200619 yr Member If not for one reason and one reason only, he's a man and ABCD proves time after time (especially when it comes to GH) Men Rule! Tell that to Richard Culliton. I'm sure he wouldn't agree.
July 11, 200619 yr Member Tell that to Richard Culliton. I'm sure he wouldn't agree. I think Genie Francis, Vanessa Marcil and that all male ending on a soap with both men and women may substantially outweigh that one name. It is pretty clear that ABCD favors their male employees over their female employees and they have the law suit to prove it.
July 11, 200619 yr Member Hope the ratings fall more.... AMEN!!! GH and B&B need wake up calls so changes can be made. GH is worse off though. Bringing back characters for the shock and awe effect and destroying them is the worst. Producing only 3 months a year worth of semi-decent material is stupid. I wish this show would drop so much and not get any emmys because that will really wake them up but you just know they will produce two good shows to submit and steal another emmy. which does nothing but give them pretty much permission to keep doing what they are. GH is a mess. The worst part is for the many people thate hate it there are just as much enjoying it (including soap critics from the mags, emmy voters, etc.) so I don't know when GH will make a change. I don't care if Pratt is gone or not-the show is still as big a mess as it was when he was there IMO>
July 11, 200619 yr Member I'm sorry, but there has been enough drama ridden Emmy worthy material that exceeds the "3 month" excuse that many people come up with. It may have been boring, but it was fully of drama and Emmy worthy.
July 11, 200619 yr Author Member Well, I for one am not upset with Robert Guza. One of the main problems at GH was Charles Pratt Jr., not Robert Guza. When you look at the work of them when they were a unit, GH is much better with Guza soley in control. He's not perfect, but he's not a hack either. GH is airing some character driven storylines right now that I am not bored with or annoyed with.I disagree. Everyone claims Pratt was the problem, that Pratt was all about the sleaze, when clearly, Guza's the one toying with the idea of pairing Ric and Sam. Thats sleaze at its worst, and its immensely lazy writing. Guza is most definitely a hack. We would be here all day if we had to go through all of the characters he ruined. I hate when people place all the blame on Pratt...Guza let him get away with it! From what I understand there weren't many power struggles between the two. Guza's the one who had Sonny shoot Carly in the head while she was giving birth, had AJ slap Courtney, had Luis leaving a pregnant Alexis in the snow, had Sonny calling every woman in sight a '!@#$%^&*], slut, or whore', had Sonny telling Janine she was a gold-digging whore and to get on her knees...no, that was NOT all of Pratt. Guza and his woman-hating writing has been in existence for a VERY long time. Its not at all fair to place the sole problem on Pratt, Guza was the HW. It's a much welcome change to see them explore the character dynamic than seeing plot after plot after plot. Even though part of the plot storylines is what got me hooked on GH on a daily basis once again, it's a much needed and welcome change. I for one am not for removing Guza. I believe that with some help, GH could once again be the top soap. Guza's been with GH off and on for years now and he knows the history of the show, but it's kinda hard to do everyting on your own, and JFP and Frons aren't helping much either. I'm sorry? He knows the history of the show? Is that why next week, all of a sudden out of the blue, Alexis can't swim? Alexis being able to swim was a MAJOR part of the character when she first got to the show, because it was what lead to viewers understanding her relationship with Stefan and how he helped her get over her fears. Or wait, I know, the way he changes what school Alexis went to every week, first Yale, then Harvard, then Yale again. Or wait, I know! How about how he made Rick Webber into a murderer? I just loveeeeeeeeee all of the sense that story made. Or wait, I know, what he did to AJ...cause that was just great writing. Seriously? We could be here all day talking about how Guza knows not a thing about GH's history, NOT A THING. He sucks, he's a hack, he needs to go. I hope GH ratings sink like the Titanic, thats the only way that the show might change. Karen Harris would be a great choice for Co-Headwriter just like many others would. It's a team effort and he's doing his best to try and improve the show.No he isn't and co-Headwriter isn't really going to do anything. Michelle Val Jean is a pretty good writer, but then she has to contend with hacks like Korte and her Jason and Carly are Superman and Wonder Woman fantasies, and the hack jobs of Susan Wald and Mary Suck Price. Obviously there's something that's keeping you into watching the show, or else you wouldn't be complaining. There will never be a writer who satisfies the wants and needs of every fan. This is not a shot at you or anyone else who posted in this thread but I'm so god damn sick and tired of the fans !@#$%^&*]ing about the state of GH, especially when there are other shows having more problems. I watch the show for one reason - Nancy Lee Grahn. If she left, so would I, simple as that. I most certainly don't watch because I enjoy any of the stories, and I'm damn sure that I'm not enjoying Nancy's current one. And its a message board, if you're sick and tired of fans !@#$%^&*]ing...umm...perhaps you shouldn't read their post? Mosey along and all....but yes, GH sucks and sucks big. Fans wanted character driven stories and not plot ones that focused soley on the mob. With the exception of Manny Ruiz (who has NOT dominated airtime), have there been any major mob stories in 2006? Like there was in 2003, 2004, and 2005? No. The hospital is once again the focus of the show, and while it's true that people like Alan, Monica and Bobbie are basically nothing but wallpaper, there are stories involving those who work at the hospital.Yes yes, the mob isn't as prominent, and thats a good thing, but the show still sucks. We said we wanted more than just the mob, we wanted to see the hospital, and GH took that as us saying 'we want a cheap Grey's Anatomy rip off'...hell they even copied their freaking montage. There are some storylines that I would prefer not to see, but you know what, it's a lot better than some of the crap we've been forcefed for the past couple of years. Uhh, you do realize that Guza was responsible for the majority of that crap for the last couple of years? Writing for the soaps is not about appealing to certain fanbases. Guza (or anyone for that matter) shouldn't try to appease the wants of Rexis, Carson, SCRUBS, Skylo, JaSam, L&L2 or any other kinds of fanbases. In doing so you alienate the fans who may not like them as much and you fall into the pit of having couples dominate the writing. Guza has a lot of work to do, but I for one am not disappointed with the overall show. I am, and I'm glad to see that the Nielsen viewers are too. Umm...I just listed couples as an example, because me personally, I don't like one of those couples I listed lol (except maybe Scrubs). I'm not saying they need to cater to any fanbase, I'm saying they need to write an overall good show, which they aren't doing now. Jason is always right, Sonny is always right, Carly is always right. That's it. The writing is as heavy handed as it gets, its downright ridiculous. All characters must be sacrificed because of those three, over and over and over again. Thats Guza, not Pratt or anybody else. Tristan Rogers said THIS about GH: He said they brought Robert back as a deadbeat dad which chafes because Robert was never like that. He said that the show is much darker now than in the old days and that's one of the reasons why Robert had to come back as a deadbeat dad - they "had to muddy him." He said back in the day, the show's underlying message was hope and now, on today's show..."There is no hope." Thats just sad, Guza needs to go ASAP.
July 11, 200619 yr Member With JER and McTrash, it seems they sign these contracts that ENSURE they stay on for the three-or-so years they signed for. Maybe Guza is tied into this contract that is just too expensive to break. Won't there come a point where the contract is too expensive NOT to break? And might it be approaching? That being said, get Higley out yesterday!
July 11, 200619 yr Member I think all of the ABCD shows have something in common - they don't respect the reaction from the fans. I think GH is the worse offender of this. I think the one thing that has made Y&R so consistent, #1, and critically acclaimed over the years is the fact that TPTB there respect their fans and welcome constructive criticism. TPTB at GH seem to believe their fans no nothing and that everything is perfect. I'm sorry, but GH is by far one of the most inconsistent soaps on all of daytime.
