I don't know; part of me thinks there was a different plan, re: reveal and they switched it up once Kirsten Storms' return wasn't as long-term as the writers had been hoping for.

I think the main difference is if Kirsten had been there they likely would have reunited and we would have seen her sense something was wrong, instead of that beat being done in about a week.

I know this board in general hates Ryan Paevey, but I have no problem with what you call a lack of nuance.

From Day One, many of us suspected Paevey wasn't playing Nathan -- because we've all watched soaps since forever. So while "we knew" it wasn't Nathan, we really didn't KNOW it wasn't Nathan until yesterday. Why give that up sooner with nuance? I don't see any reason to do that.

We got writing clues, and many people caught them, again because we've all watched soaps since forever.

Ryan Paevey isn't a great actor, but this role doesn't require that. I personally think he's a great soap hunk who's good in the role. Am I partial to him because he's great eye candy? DUH.

I have a hard time criticizing Paevey's acting when there's worse all over the canvas. As has been pointed out, Carlo Rota is all over the place. Sometimes he's good, but he's also an outrageous scene-chewer. Now he's underplaying his own son's death. Van Hansis is now playing Marco's death like it's just another day at Port Charles -- and is incredibly bad at playing a doctor.

So yeah, I'm OK with Ryan Paevey.

A good actor gives nuance and fills in when the material is lacking. Most of us knew that resurrected Nathan was a fakeout, but the tension shouldn't have existed because we've watched soaps for a long time. There's a reason why David Canary's portrayal of Adam/Stuart still stands the test of time. Even when Adam was pretending to be Stuart, Canary gave a wink to the audience. Another example is Christopher Reeve's portrayal of Clark/Superman. He made you believe they were two different people.

You're right that RP is not the most offensive actor on the canvas. But he's just reading lines off the page to me.

At least Van Hansis chews scenery. Ryan's never been able to even mouth it. Which is what this role requires.

He gives absolutely nothing!

As for the rest of today's show, Rory is too damn good a recast to be left with busy work. Put him back in a hot story. If Sidwell is going to have everyone by the balls, give Michael a reason. Sidwell's mustache twirling is a bit much now.

Kai and Trina are so damn dumb, I’m glad Willow quickly picked up on their stupidity. I hope this means Kai’s days are numbered.

@ranger1rg like you I have no issue with RP as Nathan or the twin. I liked that they weren’t just dropping anvils all over the place he wasn’t Nathan. I mean Britt literally came back what 2 weeks before and she’s the real Britt so there was always an ounce of Nathan could actually be alive. Paevey is a perfectly fine soap hunk and I’ve seen sooooo much worse across all soaps.

If Paevey was still playing the eternally boring Nathan he'd be doing the job asked of him. I have never had any use for the character but he had about one speed and it was specifically tailored to Paevey's skill or lack thereof.

Nathan's evil twin is not Nathan. He is supposed to be a criminal mastermind who has been puppeteering the canvas for months. As of now RP plays it like Nathan is back and is particularly dedicated to a new gym grindset.

On a different note, I think we all knew Wiley was awful at baseball and his coach hates him, right? Kai didn't even want to try coaching that lol.

Paevey was fine as Nathan. As a villain? Not so much. I don't exactly care because he does as well as I thought he would do at it.

Van Hansis is not great, but at least he's trying something? I guess?

SPOILER

Nathan Dean/Parsons (Ethan) looks good (and cleaned up) in the GH birthday video on social media.

Van's emotional breakdown scenes today basically worked for me, but I don't think he's being well-served by the writing. I think the show is trying to convey this idea that Lucas is still in shock and the grief is coming in waves, so some days he's relatively calm while other times he's overwhelmed. But the writing hasn't totally gotten this across, and so in some scenes (like his scenes with Joss) he just seems a little bored. Still, he's doing a lot better with this material than Carlo Rota is.

I actually enjoyed the hyperventilation today. I actually understand how they’re playing the grief because it truly does come in waves when you lose someone close to you.

PCPD really showing how dumb they are. Fake Nathan has never been a cop and he’s just slid in with zero training and has only messed up once 🤦🏾‍♂️

I just hate these stories more and more because they had Lulu sleep with him, only she didn’t know who he really was. And it’s not like he was brainwashed and also didn’t know. It’s just another version of SA. All of her stories right now are about being violated, and that is sad to me because it’s all plot driven nonsense with her babies and now NotNathan, and the show isn’t written to be on her side. Rocco still thinks Britt is somewhat important to him, Charlotte and Valentin are as gross as ever, now this.

When the Ryan returns story took off while Genie was off contract, they were very careful when Laura returned to play up a disconnect in their marriage and that they were not intimate before breaking up and the reveals starting. I can’t remember if they had Ava sleep with him though. But I had hoped they had finally learned not to tell these stories, after years of nonsense like this. Marty and Todd while she had no memory but Todd did comes to mind.

I know it’s just a silly plot on a not serious show. But it bothers me, especially right now when our culture is at war with women’s autonomy.

You're not alone, @titan1978 . It bothers me as well.

It appears the only thing tg has can write for a Lulu is men and women violating her and she basically just has to take it or she’s somehow in the wrong.
